    I really appreciate the free courses that your channel shares, esp considering that I have nothing to offer in return - so please take this only as constructive feedback. Thank you for sharing your videos.
    This entire video didn't seem to offer anything useful to me. I am studying game engine development and am researching more about different systems and its importance in how different engines are built and how it translates to the developed games.
    - None of the professors added any knowledge or useful feedback to the students (based on what was shared here). The class reminded me of pre-school where there is a base level of interaction through the class on what someone likes or dislikes about something they experience. Nothing of a higher level of learning.
    - The professors didn't offer any unique information about any of the topics they had asked the students to cover. Are they actually experts in this field? Judging from the presentation and interactions, it is a tough sell.
    I, as well it seems others, had left this video wondering if the main content was clipped from the release. The content did not add value, and is quite surprising considering the high quality often presented in your other free courses.
    Are there perhaps major parts of the the video missing? Is there more to this video?

      This course is about developing games and not about developing game engines. MIT OpenCourseWare currently (as of 2023-12-19) doesn't have any courses on developing game engines published. To give you an idea of what is taught at MIT, here's the MIT Game Lab course list: gamelab.mit.edu/study/courses/. The courses we do have published are noted on this list. Best wishes on your studies!

    Did you know every side of every triangle has a corresponding curve and every face on every tetrahedron has a corresponding curved surface this is a big deal for gaming because of how compatible the find is with polygon graphics. How does it work, well if you graph a slice of a circle and change one of the radius lengths of the slice then progress the radius from one radius to the other in the simplest linear way you will find that there is a curve for every side of any given triangle.

    Welcome to Game Engine 101, where you learn how to install a program and use it.
    Really? How about actually learning how to WRITE an engine? There's a novel idea...

      Diversity is our strength.
      So many low IQ moron want to be programmer nowadays.
      Universities must be open to all and be inclusive!

      If you want to learn engine programming you will have to learn on your own. Also follow Casey Muratori's Handmade hero. It's good content and there is a lot of it.

      What crawled up your ass. You make it sound like you're some kind of genius but you don't even understand the difference between singular a plural.

    IDK if its just me, but the audio and video on the first 3 lectures has been sub-par.
    (Edit) Actually this video isn't as bad as the last two, but comments still stand.
    The audio level goes up and down, and not just when lecturers start talking without a mic. Also the audio level increases by double or more when cutting to the "crowd shot", which is very painful/disruptive.
    And for the video, showing slides for a split second (running at 1.5x BTW) and then showing the lecturer gesticulate until the next slide is not helpful. If you have both the slides and the video why not put the lecture PiP in the corner of the slide?

      I agree with your comment. The cutting hurts to watch as I would like the material displayed as he speaks

    Is the laptop screen blank?. If we are to preach efficiency as programmers, what is with the the strenuous motions of rubbernecking at the projection screen for every bullet...and repeating what is wriiten? Where's the note cards, or notes in your presentation ( on the laptop in front of you), wherby you continue facing the audience and not break their attention with that distraction or others:
    Umming with hands in pockets -> meditation.before.us or
    soing so often::makingQuilts.101 or
    Butting beyond measure &doubtEveryThought or
    Actually *repeats error: redfinition
    .dll not found

    I'm just here to find out what an engine actually is.

    • @Iernez
      @Iernez 6 лет назад +4

      an Engine is as simple as it sounds, its one of the most fundamental blocks in a software, sometimes its called the kernel. what the engine does is all up to you. if you start off from a finished 3d game, you strip away the 3d models, the audio, the text, the missions, the game goals, and you are left with a pseudo software machine capable of handling those models audio etc. how files are read, and stored, how to manage the computer/console/ (insert device here) resources which include, but not limited to : Memory, throughput, data storage, data transmission, etc and so forth. how complex and detailed your engine, or system is all up to you.
