I remember watching this in the theatre back in 1982. We still 'quote' lines from it.
Yes, I'm old.
Wait. Quote lines from it?
Me too, not ashamed to confess it
I watched it in 1986 in a cinema in Paris.
@@maninthecamohat2735Lol AH TA!!!
@@Allenrobinson9 a classic in my household
Surprisingly entertaining for a movie with no dialog. I enjoyed it.
agreed
@phillydiscobut... but... but ... the truth:: ruclips.net/video/j6p1zxKnDeM/видео.html
Yeah ..ok I remember this movie now .. they made us watch it in highschool ..
There's actually alot of dialog, it's just not understandable
Ridley Scott brought me here. Said this is his top 4 favourite film when at Alien Romulus Premier
Same
This movie's aged look only adds to how authentic it feels.
If youre in anyway into anthropology, its a must see
Any other recommendations? I've got Clan of the Cave Bear on my list as well

Imagine all of the money saved on makeup by casting Ron Perlman!
@markobut true
😹🔥
Ron Perlman has the most amazing bone structure. How awesome that he got this role.
That synth soundtrack though, oh God so epic.
Excellent !
Ch-ch-ch ..k-k-k
I saw this movie for the first time today, and I have to say it the best movie I've seen in a long time.
It truly is a great movie. I snuck into my parents room and watched it. You see great depth of the characters in learning how to make fire instead of fighting for fire. You see the humanity and empathy of trying to save someone from another tribe from cannibals. And...with every Hollywood movie...there is a tangent love story.
Yes it's a classic
@@christansdad you mean the scene where Ron Pearlman wanted to make love to his guy friend?
I fall in love all over again whenever I see Rae Dawn Chong is this film. Someone should hold a retrospective screening of Quest. Yes, it's that good a film and a groundbreaking one too - the makeup, the linguistic engineering, the location shots, the performances. Just brilliant!
Or is she just a hot, nude, damsel in distress who you'd like to protect and mentor?
"rae dawn chong, rae dawn chong, rae dawn chong!" -Alice in Chains
No way?! Didnt know this was Chongs daughter lol
Top movie..ended up buying the DVD... watch it every now and then....Brilliant
This Film utterly blew me away watching it as a 10 year old !
Was just reading today this movie was an inspiration for Guillermo del Toro on his high school years. Back when he was 16 o 17 he was doing shorts, writing stories, doing comic and teaching his fellow classmates animation using clay figurines.
I saw this movie when i was wayyyy too young and always thought it was some manic feverdream until I stumbled upon a mention of this movie some years ago, I still have to watch it again but man brings back memories I didn’t know where memories.
Rae Dawn Chong was cast as Ika largely because she was completely comfortable with being nude. Between scenes, she remained nude on the set most of the time, in full body makeup, to stay in character.
Showing the sapiens using a fire drill is a huge spoiler, it'd be like a trailer for Star Wars showing the Death Star exploding.
Ridley Scott said this is one of his favorite films
I came here after Ridley Scott said that.
Film looks pretty strange and interesting
@@raulcelisnsame
The perfect role for ron perlman I'll bet they didn't need makeup or anything for him.
+Smedley Butler I had an Anthropology professor back in the day that always referenced Perlman.

Hilarious, @Smedley. And boooo! Tsk Tsk. I;ve got my @@ on u
I literally was only finding this trailer to make this exact same joke in the comments. hahahah
He's the missing link
I was too young to watch this movie in 1981 communist Poland (because of the supposed violence, but it was about the sex scenes) so me and bunch of other youngsters would climb a ladder to the movie theater's attic layered with 40 year old dust... Good times :)
In communist Poland movie theaters showed western movies like this one?
Soundtrack is like Escape from New York. Fits well.
Ahhh... 80s synthesizer music!
What an amazing film. Loved it. It's a TRIP!!!
Thanks for posting. I remember watching this as a kid.
This made 20 million at box office att, crazy considering it made more than now classic movies such as “weird science” and “fright night” from the same period
people had brains back then
Made a fire - Key to technology unlocked.
Awesome film! One of my favourites! :)
I agree, mine, too. Unforgettable for me because I hadn’t had tv for awhile back in 1992. It really helped to understand and appreciate humanity. I didn’t see anything weird about races in the movie. I did see how much damage an idiot can cause for a group who all depend on one another for survival. I also noticed how vitally important necessities are the ppl who are scratching around in an undeveloped earth of dirt, mud, rocks, cold, and danger.
Michael Hughes I have just bought the (very old) book of this great old movie. It's called The Barbarian Swordsman edited by Sean Richards. Well worth the read!!
I remember enjoying this years ago, and always wondered why it never on TV. My only criticism is that I don't believe early Mankind couldn't articulate. We are physically designed to be able to form a range of symbolic sounds. Compared to wildlife, we are relatively weak in all areas except the brain, mind and imagination and by extension, verbal communication.
Cro Maning man could use language just like Neanderthal could.
The futuristic synths work really well instead of cliche 'ancient drums' for this kind of story.
Have you seen it? There's also lots of hand drums, pan flutes, and full LS Orchestra. It all works.
@@GCKelloch I wrote the comment just before watching it (the trailer made me want to see it), overall I thought the film had less synth than this trailer suggested. But still a good film.
One of my all-time favorite movies. No speaking...at least none that you can understand...and no subtitles.
Saw this with my mom as an 11 year old. I loved this move!
This was the first time I ever watched a movie with Ron Perlman. It took me forever to find out who the actor was (prior to internet existing). I wanted to see what the guy actually looked like in real life *because* he literally looked like an actual caveman. Looks like the film crew saved on a lot of make up when working with Ron.
We watched this movie a million times as kids on our betamax! It blew our minds and it was one of the reasons I came to love paleontology & archeology
I remember i watched this with my dad when I was like 4 or 5 without knowing any of the context, let alone what they were doing on top of each other. Took me a while to find this movie again by doing a "Stone age movie" as I have some small fragment of memory of it
When i watched this movie in. 1981 i didn't understand it.
Now i still remember.
I love when Ron Perlman is on the first move. He's like a Real Live Caveman
a "science fantasy epic". Well worded.
How did movie trailers evolve from this to "boom, boom, boom"
I imagine that modern movie trailers are trying to stuff more content in their trailers while also just trying to only give you a taste.
because weve commercialised adhd
Stranger Things stole their trailer music, and the intro and outro theme. You heard it here first!
This was and is an incredible movie. No dialog! Archaeological science since then could add so much to a remake. Until I saw the cannibals doing it, I'd never really considered that a way of keeping meat fresh before refrigeration or even salting or drying, was to amputate one limb at a time and cauterized the wound, keeping the meat alive. Then, have a blowout feast with the torso!
Is this the sequel to Cavemen🤔?
Nice movie, i think the original score by Phillipe Sarde is a minor classic.
One of the best movies ever made
I have never heard of or seen this movie in my life (1983). Picked it up at a book sale.
Still haven’t seen this movie and I’ve wanted to for about 35 years 😂
😂😂😂... You have probably seen this movie 🎥 by now 🤣... And I have yet to see it.. and the cycle of life continues 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌹🤘
Totally looking forward to it 💗
@@RhiannonClarkMusicofficial Lol, you’re right, I watched it about 9 months ago. It had great moments but I feel it didn’t quite achieve what it set out to do. But worth finding.
great movie... bought THE DVD !
I got the dvd too.
@@ki-pattao9030 Me too... saw it in a $9.99 bin and didn't even look for any other movie in the whole store. THAT was the one I needed to add to my collection !
what a movie.. real masterpiece
Can anyone be able to tell what music they used for the trailer of this film please? I sure would want to download it.
I remember seeing this as a kid at the drive-in. I remember it looking much better.
I wonder if Jacques Malaterre’s films (especially the “L’odyssée de l’espèce” trilogy) were inspired by this, because the depictions of the different humans here look very similar to how they look in his films.
IMO - The best caveman movie ever made. That might not be saying much, but I’ve always enjoyed it. I remember, as a little kid, seeing the trailer on TV and it scared the sh!t out of me.
Yes. Out of all the caveman movies.
Powerful movie

What ?.
mentioned this film today , relating it to another great one, Cast Away with Tom Hanks, in the role of Chuck Noland, a FedEx employee, gone missed after an airplane crash in a unknown distant island in south pacific. I saw Quest For Fire in 1986 for the frist time.
I wish it DID have a synth soundtrack like on this trailer !
I have this movie, I love it
Who came here after the letterboxd ridley scott interview
What a masterpiece ❤️💣

Shockingly good movie
How many hominids can you count in this awesome tale?
I laughed threw this entire movie, the best scene is when he falls in the water with the make shift lamp
that's so true lmfao
Starring Ron Perlman as himself.
Patrice Oneal discussion on this movie was hilarious 🤣

Our roots🖤🖤🖤🐺🐺
very good movie, amazing ...
Job 30:5-8 They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;) [6] To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. [7]Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together. [8]They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
Great music!
I wish they would remake this movie with a decent budget and bring back Ron to reprise his role
This movie could also be called 'Life Before the Internet'.
Or Life before "That" C-19 word.
The only move based on a true story that doesn't tell you its a true story
This movie was funny to me. Especially when the saber tooth tiger trees them and the next morning the tree is bare. They ate all the leaves off it.
The comment section is cancerous cringe.
yeah, didn't expect that. i just think it's a great film. didn't even think about race coming to look at all these retards fight it out
Good god, seriously
lol damn white people lol lol lol
Now i gotta scroll down the comment, you got me intrigued!
Trailers were so shit back then.
Great movie though. I’ve seen it and loved it as a kid. It’s great rewatching it now, in 2020.
This movie was behind its time.
Was this movie ahead of its time?
Good way to deal with religious idiots of any confession on internet is to ignore them and of course teach young ones around you - not of your one and only truth, but the fact that people like this with no mind of their own will just sometimes appear here.
Bad thing is that those fanatics do exist in real life too and sometimes ignoring them can lead to bad results :(
This picture was filmed in environmental protected locations in three countries: Canada, Kenya and Scotland.
I'm going to have to get this
when it came out it was a stupid , shitty B movie, but looking at it now, it is really good, and not a single word said, what a universal movie!, you can show this in china, america, europe any place, people still know what is going on!.
at Rad Trailers= je ne sais pas où tu as pris cette musique mais ce n'est pas celle de Philippe Sarde=voir la bande annonce= not the original music score !
The first 14 seconds of their trailer are talking about a different movie.
Not sure if thats ballsy or stupid.
Its just a porn with cavemen.
I don't see what's realistic about an ever-burning flame.
'Realistic'
It was quite an audacious comparison. But "Quest for Fire" has more of an impact for me, frankly.
Excellent film, it shows so many increments of the statement of Buddha "Rise above your animal nature" when they are attacked by a more primitive species,
i'm uploading it right now.. look for it when it's done
I bought the directors cut, extend edition, with Russian subtitles. 42 extra min of footage
Best movie,ever!!
these are different species
not different races
sub-species*
neanderthals and sapiens could breed to create cro-magnon, which was not an infertile breed, far as we know
Whatever happened to Rae Dawn Chong? I remember her in this movie, Commando, and a few others in the 80's. Had a huge crush on her.
Everett McGill should've had more roles.
I thought we were pretty hardcore when it comes to other things, though. Stalking and exhausting our pray, being adapt enough to survive and wait pray out on whatever we can find, hunt, scavenge. Being pretty adapt to weather we're pretty spoiled by our intellect.
en que pagina consigo la pelicula completa alguien me puede ayudar xfa??
Great movie. I wonder who made the soundtrack for the trailer? Sounds like a Tangerine Dream to me.
me too.
I've wondered the same since I first saw this, but it's definitely not TD. I even tried to look it up, and asked elsewhere, no one knows. My best guess is someone like Trevor Bastow, Neil Norman, Benoit Hutin, Joel Fagerman & Yan Yrssen, or John Cameron maybe. All of them put out library music or were on several librares at the time, and all of them had synth studios or set-ups that could have done it...I think. Someone elsewhere mentioned Jonathan Elias, as he "scored" trailers (Alien, Body Double) but his music sounds nothing like this really.
His name is Philippe Sarde
And yet this isn't the soundtrack on the version I have. I wish it was !
@@solenndif5690 The track on the trailer is a different artist.
Well made movie
I asked my parents to take me to see this movie right after church services (early 1980's) and they agreed not knowing what the movie was about. Needless to say they were horrified with the caveman gore and sex and decided to leave right in the middle of the movie. Luckily I watched the who film again many years later. My parents weren't around for the next viewing!
Where i can find it ?? :-)
That is based on a true story.
Who is the voiceover?
Netflix isnt available in NL yet
Where i can get the full movie !
This movie scared fuk outta me as a kid
