Hey dudes, Just wanted to chime in - I know a lot of you guys are bummed that I'm holding Jesse's hand as he's playing, that wasn't my intent. I apologize. I really love Shovel Knight and Jesse, and when we talked about the two, it just kind of made sense. I didn't mean to impede on what Jesse does for his channel let alone for you guys, and for that I'm sorry. Either way, I hope some of you guys enjoy what comes up as this series evolves. Jirard
What got to me was less the hand-holding and more of your phrases. You've used "I gotcha" "You got this" and "There you go" a lot throughout these past few videos.
I love how every time Jesse does something difficult, Jirard is like, "There you go, easy!" He sort of sounds like a doctor who just gave a little kid a shot, and I love it.
This is practically the perfect LP. Strategy, secrets and (near) completion from Jirard, as well as attention to dialogue and story from Jesse. And of course the comedy of them together! Enjoying so far.
( 1:37 ) What ?! That 'chaos sphere' is pretty much THE most useful spell/artefact of the game. In boss fights, that thing can really help a lot, especially if you raised your mana/magic a bit.
honestly I think Jirards commentary is a nice change of pace. We see jesse fuck around and scream alot in other playthoughs but Jirard is super supportive and helpful. It could be alittle less instruction-y I wont lie however I just enjoy their enthusiasm and watching jesse freak out at Jirard.
Guys lets spend part of this video talking about how a trouple chalice can restore your health to full, and how you can get an infinite amount of them, and then forget about them when we're fighting the boss so we die . Jesse the master of Pro MLG stuff!!
Finished it in 3 days after it came out. And I am not kidding Phase Locket is THE best item for any bossfight (except for the Propeller Knight, the dagger is better there for mobility).
Ah that moment at about 21:00 where Jirard says "go in the one to your right" and jesse goes in the left one.. followed by Jirard no doubt trying to be nice and not say "no your other right"
You better lose yourself to the game, the moment you own it. You better never let it go. You only get one chance, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.
Sancty1337 Fucking beat me to it. I mean, it was three days ago, but I was fucking ready to post that until a scrolled down and saw that. I think an apology is in order.
26:15 Jesse didn't actually get hurt by that swing! He whacked Specter Knight and the game glitched out so Specter knight's swing went right through him! talk about a win-win.
apparently everything is "the worst" according to Jesse. and Jerard is so patient..."go to your right *Jesse goes left* no where the gems are." this game also remind me a lot of things like dark souls i wanna be the guy
I don't even play this game and I want a plushie of the Troupple King. Cmon how can you not have a stupid grin on your face just watching his little dance
Dear Jesse, I feel like a game like this would be best enjoyed as a "single player collab" with more commentary and less instruction. Jirard can talk about his experience in the game. He can make witty banter about how the frogs remind him of spinach when they're just sitting on the ground waiting for you which is doubly terrifying because frogs and spinach both freak him out. He can gently chide you for panicking and by all means point out a secret here or offer you tips when you arrive at a spot where the way forward is not immediately clear. The whole "okay now jump now go left now jump again now hit the thing now jump then hit the thing now jump and wait and jump and wait and jump and hit and stand and jump and bend and jump and squat and thrust..." Not kosher. Ya know?
This exact point is already bothering me so much with this series.. I get maybe jirard can't really help himself, and it is what jesse asked for.. but it takes a lot of the fun out when jesse doesn't even get to discover hardly anything for himself, or have a minute to be lost before jirard fishes him out and sets him going.. I agree completely that this needs to be more of a commentary/tips thing, rather than a full walkthrough of every pixel of the game
Dragonsoul420 From past experience I know that its gonna take Jesse forever to discover things himself. I'd rather have Jirard tell him where everything is.
Now you are complaining about this and before you complained how he misses everything and how much you but clench about it.At least now you can see full playthrough with all the secrets and stuff.
eHRGeiZ I mean, tell him where secrets and such are, sure, that alone I'd be ok with. It's the whole "go right here, ok now wait, go right again, jump here and go left", or stuff like stopping jesse to explain how even that skeleton bridge thing works, etc, that's what I thought was getting a bit annoying
Man specter knight was fun though I kinda did the same thing Jirard did and faced him first but in my defense I did it to impress the dancer in the village...worth it
I like the idea of Shovel Knight but deep down I wish the in-game art style was much more like the "box art". I kind of felt the same way for Mighty No.9. I mean I do love pixel-esque stuff but I think in a way it is just holding this game and its concepts back a little bit.
It isn't "pixel-esque," it is just pixel. The entire point of the game was to be 8bit. The concept of the game cannot hold back the concept of the game, because it is the concept of the game. Personally, I don't think this game would work anywhere near as well as it does if the devs hadn't gone for an almost entirely authentic 8bit game. Compare for example, the original Megaman box art to what it looked like in game. There is a world of difference there. Shovel Knight on the other hand is very consistent with it's art styles. The "box art" coincides quite well with the in game imagery, especially when you take into consideration the cutscenes.
PurpleKangaroo4 The game to me is pixel-esque because there is inconsistencies in the art itself. This is my critique as an illustrator though and personally at times the game doesn't pull it off. I think your choice of example with Megaman was possibly a poor one seeing as the original box art was an abomination that conflicted with Inafune's vision of Megaman himself. Obviously that wouldn't work as an in-game concept. Literally to the point of being rhetorical. Sometimes though games always look better in their concept stage but then again that is the point of a concept. It is the maximum potential of your game's initial design. As I mentioned Shovel Knight provides multiple aesthetic dips in quality. Something my judgmental art eye becomes allergic too. In the end beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You definitely see something very different from me and this is coming from a person who loves pixel art and uses it daily. To me though I just don't like the final aesthetic choice.
ProxyPlaythroughs While art is entirely subjective I must say that PurpleKangaroo is right in that the developers vision for the game was objectively to make it as 8 bit old school looking and feeling as possible. It would be completely contradictory to their vision to go away from that with the art style. I think there are a lot of platformers with both more of a modern look and a pixelated look. To say that the developers made a mistake with the direction of the art style I would have to say is wrong but if the art style is just subjectively not your thing then I get that. Personally I think the art, the music, the overworld screen etc... all tie in nicely to make it a very balanced experience that knows what it wants to be.
Thank you so much, that was bugging the shit out of me. I don't like to consider myself a grammar nazi or anything, but when people say things completely the wrong way, it just gets my goat man.
As your penance for not destroying all of the checkpoints, Jirard shouldn't have to tell you how to get through areas until after you die in them. If you aren't going to beat the game his way, then you shouldn't get him as a guide, only as a safety net (though, I guess he can still guide you to secret items and notes that he thinks you'd miss otherwise).
#HailKingTrouple also, for anyone who watched the first episode of this series, when game informer reviewed this game (as game of the month btw) it compared it to super mario 3 lol

You have six likes :|
I really enjoy watching you guys play this awesome game together, thank you for doing it! :D
I really am enjoying this playthrough, and I'm glad you played this with Jesse.
What got to me was less the hand-holding and more of your phrases. You've used "I gotcha" "You got this" and "There you go" a lot throughout these past few videos.
Just keep going I'm really loving this!
I love how every time Jesse does something difficult, Jirard is like, "There you go, easy!" He sort of sounds like a doctor who just gave a little kid a shot, and I love it.
Gotta say, the dance he gives Plague Knight... far more majestic, filled with lots of love.
god the animation on specter knight is just awesome. he feels so alive and full of energy with his movements. this game is fucking amazing.
Gerard is an awesome person to co-op with. Great choice! I'm really diggin this series so far.
he is so gentle on poor unskilled Jesse, It's a treat :P
MugiHasDeclined Jared*
jirard is amazing!
MugiHasDeclined Yes.
(You clearly aren't in on the joke)
Shovel pun
Poor Koopa kids... First Bowser disowns them now Jesse beats them up.... Feel proud of yourself Jesse? Beating up recently orphaned turtle children?
"There you go"
- The Completionist, 2014
Jirard at 8:00 : "Invincibility is worthless."
Jirard at 19:17 : "The Phase Locket is the best item in the game."
Oh.
How the hell does Jirard remember where everything is?! It's not like this game has been out for ages. He really is a walking strategy guide.
I actually talked with him about it at SGC and he told me he's completed it on steam, 3ds, and wii u so yeah he really is
New drinking game: take a shot whenever Jirard says "There ya go."
Or when he says "Hey man"
MrStarTheUltimate So, every time he talks?
Radon Bust yes
This is practically the perfect LP. Strategy, secrets and (near) completion from Jirard, as well as attention to dialogue and story from Jesse. And of course the comedy of them together! Enjoying so far.

Gotta say, youve been doing pretty good voices for the Knights. Look forward to your interpentation of the other ones.
honestly I think Jirards commentary is a nice change of pace. We see jesse fuck around and scream alot in other playthoughs but Jirard is super supportive and helpful. It could be alittle less instruction-y I wont lie however I just enjoy their enthusiasm and watching jesse freak out at Jirard.
16:43 "So be careful when you jump."
16:50 Case in point why you should be careful.
Gyro and Jesse are great together.
Guys lets spend part of this video talking about how a trouple chalice can restore your health to full, and how you can get an infinite amount of them, and then forget about them when we're fighting the boss so we die . Jesse the master of Pro MLG stuff!!
Jirard's being so patient with Jesse xD. Respekt.
I love everything happening in this series.
Wow, two videos in one day? That's my boy. Giving us what we want.
653K just 347K more to go Jesse!
Wonder at what death count Jesse will rage when he reaches Plague Knight.
Polar knight was the hardest for me the first time I fought him out of all of them.
CodeRed99911 Just equip Phase Locket and use your pogo move. Most bosses can be one shot with this combination.
Nomenanza Have you played this game?
Finished it in 3 days after it came out.
And I am not kidding Phase Locket is THE best item for any bossfight (except for the Propeller Knight, the dagger is better there for mobility).
For me Specter Knight is the hardest. Plague knight can be just rushed down, this guy-not too much.
I love when Jesse does colabs with Jer'Al
He sounded straight up like Mark Hamills Joker when he was imitating Specter Knight. Respect.
The music in this game is soooo awesome!
That Jeremy guy seems like a swell fellow to be around
I love this dynamic
Love it, you really deserve 1 million subscribers. You are my favorite youtuber! Keep up the good work
The Spector knights' Scythe looks like a Fire Axe when it's spinning.
Ah that moment at about 21:00 where Jirard says "go in the one to your right" and jesse goes in the left one.. followed by Jirard no doubt trying to be nice and not say "no your other right"
Specter Knight was a badass.
Look, if you had one chance to bounce off a skeleton, to reach the ladder on the ceiling, would you take it? Or would you just let it slip by?
You better lose yourself to the game, the moment you own it. You better never let it go. You only get one chance, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.
Lukas Lundholm Mom's spaghetti.
Sancty1337 Fucking beat me to it. I mean, it was three days ago, but I was fucking ready to post that until a scrolled down and saw that. I think an apology is in order.
reduceuse My apologies for beating you to it :D
Jesse and I seem to live by the same video game loot logic: "I'm a greedy greedy bastard."
The two most used words by jirard: "You got this" and "There's a secret"
Chicken stuck in walls? That reminds me of Castlevania and Dust: An elysian tale
I can't wait for Jesse to find out you can crouch in this game
26:15 Jesse didn't actually get hurt by that swing!
He whacked Specter Knight and the game glitched out so Specter knight's swing went right through him!
talk about a win-win.
"You got one chance"
"EMINEM"
Holy shit I just insta subscribed to the completionist
Really enjoying this series!
6:07 for the Troupple Dance. You're welcome.
This series is amazing!
apparently everything is "the worst" according to Jesse. and Jerard is so patient..."go to your right *Jesse goes left* no where the gems are." this game also remind me a lot of things like dark souls i wanna be the guy
MORE!!! please play the whole game like this man :D
This game is so awesome.
Man... your subscriber number hasn't gone up very much. I sincerely hope you hit your goal though, you deserve it!
"Immortality is worthless" says the guy who tells Jesse to spam phase locket throgh the whole game.
Jesse can you not blame your ineptitudes on Jirard all the time.
when the lights went out my cat got interested and tried to kill the shovel knight with her paws.
oh god the flashing, so much eye pain
Ahhh old school games!
Can't wait until Jesse meets THE BAZ!
loving this series!
Jesse SPECIFICALLY for this let's play... Instead of come at me bro... say COMETH AT ME BROETH
I don't even play this game and I want a plushie of the Troupple King. Cmon how can you not have a stupid grin on your face just watching his little dance
Dear Jesse,

Haha every pixel of the game, that is funny because its 16 bit

dancing fish is still the best thing ever!
love you jesse
Damn, Spectre Knight knows where it's at!
Man specter knight was fun though I kinda did the same thing Jirard did and faced him first but in my defense I did it to impress the dancer in the village...worth it
If I were you, I wouldn't hit an electrical frog with an iron shovel -_-
BOOM HEADSHOT! Jesse killed the specter knight with his last fire ball.
At this rate 1M subs is gonna be a hard goal to reach
;-;
To be honest, Jesse has reached his funniest level height.
Agreed, Jesse! Double the ante!
It's basically impossible to get people to check out new channels and my friends are more frat boy than nerd so no help there..
break all checkpoints
its fun to see you struggle
Does the Troupple King's ceremony remind anyone else of learning Manbo's Mamba in TLoZ: Link's Awakening?
Also the Maumau dance in A Link Between Worlds
You're good Jesse, he got you.
Nice Rush Hour reference Jirard
I feel as if I'm the only one who likes Jirad's guidance
great series :3

ProxyPlaythroughs Yeah my bad man. I didn't mean to call you out like that, I just felt like adding my thoughts on the subject haha.
You don't need to pogo EVERY SINGLE ENEMY.
LET'S GO JESSE THIS IS YOUR YEAR (/*_+)/ !!! (?
This game has mysterious wall chicken? 14:20
Shovel away young knight
I most say, the lich level didn't strike me as hard when i did it.
Jesse, you should play I wanna beat the Kamilla 1,2, or 3 for about 30 seconds.
YES, I NEED MORE SHOVEL!! (not to rek myself)
I'm a bit pissed that Jirard is literally telling everything about the level to Jesse
For Shovelry!
Jirard.. stop saying "ee-core" and "troople".
It's eye-core and trow-ple.
Thank you so much, that was bugging the shit out of me. I don't like to consider myself a grammar nazi or anything, but when people say things completely the wrong way, it just gets my goat man.
The only reason it bugs me so much is because the game TELLS YOU HOW TO PRONOUNCE IT.
Troupple. Half trout, half apple. Ichor is a simple word. Next he'll be saying cache wrong.. I actually stop watching people because of this.. xD
***** i hate when people say libary instead of library or pitcher instead of picture it makes me want to kill them
cayakimovich I'm lucky I have not heard anyone say pitcher for picture... That makes me want to pull my hair out...
I wonder who'll finish first, Jesse or Arin from the Grumps??? My bets on Arin since he's beat the game a few times.
I didn't know there were meal tickets so i finished the game with the health you start with gg me
Dat picture though, wow. Lol
I love this
I think the Trouple dance in SK: Plague of Shadows is funnier and cuter
Go team!
I pronounce ''ichor'' way differently. Probably wrong but I'm way too used to it. XDD
RUclips! GIVE US 60FPS VIDEOS SO I DON'T HAVE TO GUESS WHERE THE CHARACTER IS WHEN JESSE GETS HIT!
Cause its like you forgot all about them
Jesse, you're cool. I just...I just wanted you to know, man. I just wanted you to know.
As your penance for not destroying all of the checkpoints, Jirard shouldn't have to tell you how to get through areas until after you die in them. "its very short"
*insert dirty joke*
That one level looks like Mordor
Jesse, where are your valiant heart vids?
So the invincibility ichor is worthless but the invincibility ring is useful?
Yeah
Left is left and right is right... Right?
Is it just me or is this have some things changed that aren't the same in treasure trove edition?
#HailKingTrouple
also, for anyone who watched the first episode of this series, when game informer reviewed this game (as game of the month btw) it compared it to super mario 3 lol
I don't know why Jesse keeps yelling ''Jirard'' when he gets hit. It is not his fault :D
Jess lol in your outro, the hands at the bottom right: all the white or asian hands can afford phones and the black hands just wave around hahahaha
Got to learn the difference between left and right dude. ;)
