Kim, I came across your YT channel a few weeks ago and I have really enjoyed your approach to photography. I am recently retired and decided to take my photography to a new level. The last 12 years I have used a Nikon D90 and I was very pleased with the results I got out of that camera. Last fall I purchased a D850 (I decided that moving to mirorless wasn't for me) with the 24-120mm f/4. I have had a bit of learning curve moving to the full frame and the features available on the D850. I have two or three other lenses I plan on buying over the next two or three years. I found myself spending too much time watching tutorials and reading camera manuals without progressing much. I took your advice and just went out and started shooting, making mistakes as well as having some successes. I learn much more from being out in nature, and if I do make some mistakes, then I come home and google or YT a video on the new skill I need to learn. Thank you for your videos and for inspiring me and others to get off of the sofa and do something.
Really like your channel Kim. You do an amazing job creating videos that bring out the deeper personal connections that photography brings us rather than just the technical aspects of photography. I recently bought a used Sigma 100-400 for my Nikon and it has become my favorite lens. That focal length is just so incredibly versatile Much more so than a typica 70-200.
Greetings from the US! I so resonate with your message. Get out in nature. It is so good for the soul! When I just slow down and “look”, I’m truly in awe on what is all around us. Love your channel. Thank you for taking us along on your journey.
I loved this video, Kim, as I could really sense your joy of just being out and embracing the moment rather than worrying that the dippers didn’t quite do what you hoped. The abstract leaf shots were outstanding - I preferred the black and white. And, I’m delighted for you that you saw some red squirrels!
Thanks again Kim for sharing your journey with some great results...I love the B&W images taken from that very interesting location.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Great video Kim, always great to spend a sunday morning with you in nature. No matter what the subject, I always pick up a tip or two. Thanks so much for taking the time to help us enjoy photography more.
I really like your video, Kim. I too am an absolute sucker for backlit foliage. No matter what my interest is on any given day, I often end up focusing on that subject.
Only recently stumbled upon your channel, and I love it. Its giving me plenty of ideas. Subscribed and notifications are turned on. Looking forward to your new vids
Here in the wilds of the USA, I use a Z7 with various lenses. But my favorite set for wildlife is still my D700 from 2008 and a Nikkor 80-400 because the lens coatings seem to create very beautiful colors. I love what you bring that is even more remarkable, a brain and heart of an artist. 😋
Although I have switched primarily to mirrorless, I continue to shoot my D850 with the 80 - 400 because my copy of the lens is crazy sharp and the combination renders beautiful rich images that continue to impress me. I am encouraged to hear someone else say that there is something special about that lens.
Such a peaceful video and I love the images of the leaves. So inspiring. With the encouragement of your videos and your Photographic Connections community I am learning so much. Loved the dipper! Thanks Kim ❤
Another great video. I really enjoy your calm, soothing tones, plus the photography is great. The photos of the leaves and young growth i particularly enjoyed.
What a beautiful place to go! Your videos are so relaxing and relatable to how I approach my photography in general. It's more about being out and connecting with nature. It's a huge help for my mental and physical health.
A great video Kim, I went to my local nature park this morning at stupid O'clock with the intention of taking some images of Damselflies with morning dew on them and amazingly my intentions worked out. Usually I have to improvise as plans seldom work out.
I am also a fan of rock formations. When I run across them I enjoy just sitting there and watching how the water flows through. One of my favorite is Avalanche Creek in Glacier National Park.
Enjoyed the video as usual Kim. Yeah dippers are hard to photograph, they move so quick. I really liked your photograph's of the leaves and have never thought of doing that. I will give that a go sometime, so thank you for that.
Thankyou Kim, a great video, funnily enough this was the photography I was doing today. Although the light here in Australia is not as soft as it is where you are. The sun shining through the leaves today rewarded me with some very special shots. Love your work.
Great vid! MPB is the new Squarespace and good on them for investing in photographic community. I've used MPB a couple of times in the UK and can highly recommend.
I was wondering what a dipper was... we certainly don't have them in Texas. I love how you take in the experience, for me the main point of photography, you see what I see. Happy to be following along with you. Thanks Kim!
thanks so much for the lovely video and fabulous shots, yes enjoyed the video so much. BTW i have this lens but use it with z50, love the colors and contrast.
I love your approach to just sit and take it all in before you start taking photos. I'd also like to know which pack you're are using. Looks waterproof.
Thank you angel voice for yet another great video. I have been doing pretty much the same, I've taken the opportunity to try and upload some images to a certain stock footage website. So many were rejected. So, I renamed them, submitted them again, they were accepted?!?!!!?? Getting up close and personal with with nature is very relaxing. Just enjoying being out there firstly, shooting up close second. Love your monochrome shots, all are so beautiful.
Would you consider getting the new Z8? The autofocus for wildlife photography, just like the Z9 which I own, is amazing. The nice thing about the Z8 is that it’s only slightly larger than the Z7 II.
One doesn’t need to spend such an amount of money for a wildlife camera with excellent af ! Nikons autofocus of the last ten years is fantastic, it’s all about learning to understand how it works and using the correct af setting for a particular situation! The Z9 & Z8 are more camera than most need, I see people buying these cameras then getting frustrated because they don’t understand them lol. Enjoy your camera! 😀👍
I loved this video and the tips. I'll be in Scotland in 3 weeks and would love to find a Dipper. Where is this location or other places you recommend? I'll primarily be in Skye, Glasgow, Glencoe, Inverness, then out to find Puffins near St Abbs Head. Thanks for any tips on locations.
Amazing video love the black and white, can I ask Kim, where is this beautiful woodlands. It looks so peaceful and would love to spend a day walking around and enjoying the scenery. Thanks to you I have got out and about and even seen a few puffins which was great 👍 first time seeing them in real life so cute 😍 😊
After owning my 100-400mm lens for the last six years I have grown to love its versatility in everyday use. Being a smug MFT camera owner, those numbers are doubled 😂 I think we both appreciate the ability to isolate a subject while blurring out the background to a smooth flat tone and the “super powers” of compressing foreground and background subjects to make uniquely stunning compositions. I also saw and photographed my first ever Wagtail this weekend. This was quite an achievement as I had my dog with me running around chasing stuff.
@@kimgrantphotography I decided it for me already. Perhaps I will go for the Z 100-400mm for 3 reasons. First, the size of the 100-400mm is less then the 200-600mm, so I have just to decide if I go with the 100-400 or the 70-200mm. Second, focal lengths of 400mm and more you need just as a birder. I don't want to fill my hard disk with a lot of bird photos. and third, the 100-400mm is a S-Line lens while the 200-600mm will not be one. So I expect to have the better lens if I go with the 100-400mm.
Beautiful pictures, inspiring video. But I'm curious why you wear blue clothes? It's like a signal color for most of the wildlife as any hunter would tell you.
Talk about great minds thinking alike! As soon as I saw that light shining through those leaves I thought "That would make a brilliant image!"

Nature may not always deliver what we are looking for she she always gives us what we need whether we think so or not

Glad you caught up with the Dippers Kim. Well done!

The dippers are cute, but the little red squirrels I could watch all day long.
Have a wonderful week Kim.🌲
Thanks - you too Johnny

I have gotten some fantastic photographs by using my Telephoto lens to photograph backlit leaves from the sun.
Would be great if mpb was in Australia 🇦🇺
It's not a bad place to buy from but they don't offer you much when you sell. That's life I suppose.
@@railway-share3820I’ve found them fair and their offers are very similar to other companies, however we all want more, I certainly do
Just don't sell to them. They only pay 2/3 of what you can sell for locally.
@@RogerJones-mountfield sell locally then, because mpb only pay 2/3 of what you can sell it for locally 😬

Thanks Stephen - they're the woods that surround the River Findhorn. This stretch is near Randolphs Leap
@Kim Grant thank you very much 😊, looking forward to heading there at the weekend 😀
Lovely to wake up to Kim and after watching that I'm already mellowed out for the day .........😎😆
Hi kim Saw your video on b&w and are experimenting with that
Great! Hope you're enjoying the experimentation ☺️
What lens is that?
great video do you ever get bit by ticks while out in nature

This is a very wonderful video. Thanks a lot. I have one question. Should I buy the 100 - 400 mm or wait for the rumored upcomming 200-600mm?
Now that's a difficult question to answer 😂

Z7ii & 100-400mm upside down on the ground in the closing stages of the video?!? Are they for sale too?
How do I submit photos for the LIGHT & DARK Photo challenge.
Did I miss it?? The title say this telephoto lens keeps on giving, I didn't hear you say what the lens was!
Beautiful pictures, inspiring video.

Although I’ll take a quick hand held macro shot.. if you’re going to be serious about macro, you’ll need to get it on a tripod.
You do know……..once you start photographing wildlife, you become addicted! Just saying!
