I bought a 165 and setup the watch face, which included an elevation data field so you could access that information as needed. After the first update, that feature was removed and you can no longer access the elevation data outside of an activity. After reaching out to Garmin, they told me they removed the feature to "differentiate" the lower end device as such. To remove a feature that was previously there as soon as you release the product, which contains the hardware for the feature is a really bad look. I put in a case and Garmin verified the presence before, the the lack of the feature after the update and told me they would reach out via email to update me on whether this will be aded back. So far, I've not heard back form them ...sad.
I just bought this watch, upgraded from Garmin 735xt, I absolutely love it. The display is fantastic, and the level of features is great. I don't need the kitchen sink, works for me. 👍 love it!
@@brucelin5842 I was being sarcastic, the point being if all you do is basic running and are not into high performance sports or competition, the basic features of any Garmin watch are enough for the regular professional user.
The battery life issue confuses me. How onerous is it really to have to charge your watch every 5 days?! My 235 does a lot less and just plug it in and fully charged with in an hour or so.
Returned the 165 for the Pace 3, best choice ever. The screen is not as fancy , but everything else it does better. Plus the Garmin app and watchfaces are horrendous compared to Coros
@@gnarly8888 A MIP display is a nice screen. What it doesn't have is the bright shiny colours, which I don't get the point at all on a running watch. I don't get it, it has ZERO value. Mentioned in the video is that it's more readable under overcast sky or tree coverage but MIP displays have always had the backlight which can be left on all the time. No dimming, no stupid turn-to-wake gestures. And fantastic battery life too.
@@gnarly8888Not me. I like the mip screen and strong battery life. I mean I guess amoled is a nice toy but I prefer my watch to be the running tool with the long battery life that I’m used to. And like someone else said mip preforms very well in sun or daylight and it works great with always on backlight for night runs.
The 255 is still getting updates. But to avoid disappointment rule of thumb is buy what you think will fulfil your needs at the time of purchase. New features may come, or they may not.
Garmin intentionally makes these crippled watches to make you want their more expensive ones. So you end up buying more watches & paying more. Coros though with Pace 3 you feel you are all set for at least a couple of years.
I use Coros, don’t like how Garmin feature locks random features to certain watches. Love the Apple approach Coros takes. Updates watches. If hardware for feature exist, it gets the feature.
Seems like the pricing of the 165 is targeted at the Coros Pace 3. However, in comparison the 265 pricing makes no sense. £140 for dual band GPS and a small screen size increase. I wonder if they are likely to review this anytime soon
@@Fozzee.1970 Seems absurd to me to pay more or the same to get fewer features and a display that dims all the time (how we used to make fun of the Apple Watch), when it even manages to be on. I can look at all the nice graphs on my Amoled phone at full size. But hey, each to their own.
I went with the pace 3 over this watch, and I dont regret it. I think if I had money to blow on a fancy watch I'd go with the fenix/epix series. But the pace 3 is super budget friendly and quite effective at what it does.

what!? you dont need Garmin's "more advanced interval support"??? bro, thats how you get shredded and become the best of the best bro 😁
@@ChrisBandawhat’s interval support is about ?
This Watch doesn’t have gyroscope will it have my negative effect?

Compare this to the Vivoactive 5 which one is better?

But people want nice screens. Coros better get their finger out.
The Pace 3 screen is so DULL I sent it back, the stock pictures make the screen look WAY brighter than it actually is

Is this the sequel for the forerunner 55?
what would you recommend the FR 255s or FR165 considering they're at the same price point?

the 5k estimate for Nick is just startling to see when compared to my own lol
Can you use it with a polar heart chest strap?
First! Been waiting on this review.
You're paying through the nose for fancy colourful widgets here lol. The 255 completely obliterates this watch for the same price.
For most standard users this watch has everything they need and a nicer screen.

MIP for the win.
It’s kind of a good watch, kind of good features, kind of worth it. Please keep the verbosity down and get to the point in these reviews.
