    One question - do you know whether Coros is looking to expand multisport to beyond 5 activities? This limitation (for swimrun) is the only thing that's holding me back (I have a Pace 2).

    I know and use Polar and Garmin, too, but the crucial advantage of COROS watches in practice is that, in addition to the current power in watts, they also display the moving average over 3 or 10 seconds. I don't know this from any other training computer and it has the huge advantage that the display is stable for ongoing training control and at the same time can react quickly enough to real changes.

    Thanks for this video, I was looking at the Pace 3 as my primary option for a first smart watch to track my road & mtb rides + general fitness/workouts. Decided I'm probably better off with a Garmin Instict 2 Solar, 2X or a Forerunner 255. Hoping for a nice deal on Friday.

      @@greganikin7003 A lot of people who watch these videos aren't professional athletes and don't train and run every day. and running a 5km in under 30 minutes is a stretch for them and that is okay! @Dcrainmaker Thanks for the in depth review! I am just starting my research on the Coros Pace 3. I know its fairly new on the market. Though I don't see any reviews talking about the swim, OWS, and cycling features? How well does the watch work for these other sports, and activities. I am mainly a runner, and would like know how well those other options work. Do you know if this watch is also suitable for a triathlon and is there a triathlon mode (without losing data from other modes/sports)?

    Currently using Amazfit T Rex 2 which is even cheaper than Pace 3. TRex 2 is very rugged, great battery life, accurate GPS. Maybe more of a hiking/adventure watch instead of a running watch but it has everything I need. I have two close friends who are ultra trail runners. Battery life is super important to them. • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  8 месяцев назад +25

      In the case of running specifically, it'd be three core areas:
      1) HR accuracy: If looking at the Garmin FR255 or FR55, both are more accurate optically than the COROS. If looking at the Polar Pacer Pro, that's also more accurate HR-wise (though, COROS Pace 3 would be more slightly more accurate GPS-wise than that).
      2) The Pace Pro feature on the Forerunner 255 would be notable (on sale for $249, so just $20 more), as would all of the daily suggested workouts for a specific running race (e.g. marathon), and dynamically adjusting each day's workout to your current training and even how much you slept (or didn't) that night. There's way more nuance in that automation than most people realize.
      3) Likewise, the training load/recovery metrics on the FR255 (the latest version) are just far more powerful and accurate than the COROS Pace 3. Years ahead.
      And that sets aside all of the other not-so-running specific features on the FR255/55, stuff like contactless payments, emergency assistance, etc... Again, all those people value differentialy, and that's one of those 'extra polish' type features that add up over time.

    many thanks for the review. In some of your videos i hear that all of new watches has same gps chipset, so for best accuracy only dual-gps chipset matters, and there is no premium, middle and lower budget chipsets, accuracy stays the same. Is it correct ?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  8 месяцев назад +4

      The single biggest factor in GPS accuracy these days is antenna design, not the actual chipset. That's why we see Garmin's non-dual-freq watches (e.g. Venu 3) performing better than the COROS APEX 2 Pro or APEX 2, as the antenna design is just so much better. The challenge is, good antenna design is a factor of many things, from bezel materials, to the exact placement of the antenna - where 1/10th of a millimeter one way or the other matters and is the difference between great and not-great.

Or, taken up by Zwift on an iPad/phone/Apple TV. If however, you are running Zwift via ANT+ to the Tacx NEO Bike, then you're good.

And the real clincher for me, is how Coros keeps updating units with new functionality, in this case, the continuous hrv and now soon to follow turn indications. Garmin doesn’t do that, so no hope in hell that my double the price Garmin will offer me this functionality of the Coros. 😡😡😡

    So coming from a Garmin to this one thing I noticed straight away is it’s harder to read the screen on this, I’m not sure if it’s the font used but in many occasions it’s just not clear something I never had an issue with using a Garmin. You can see the jaggedness and individual pixels, Even a Forerunner 55 had a clearer screen. Coros also removed the ability to change font size so it’s difficult even during run to view details.

    • @DanCross
      @DanCross 8 месяцев назад +5

      The font is way harder to read on Coros than any Garmin, even if you have fewer data fields displayed. Coros knows this and has had constant feedback about it via their official FB group over the years, but refuses to do anything about it.

  • @jswong8200
    @jswong8200 8 месяцев назад +3

    Ray, what are your thoughts on Coros haivng the following possible issues:
    1. The company left you out from their pool of media testers on launch due to the possibility of an unfavourable review from you
    2. Many allegations of Coros watches dying within 2.5 years, just months after the 2-year warranty has lapsed
    On the first possible issue, it would appear that the company may not be all that ethical in the way they develop and market the product? And on the second issue, if it's truly widespread, it won't bode well for Coros in the long run?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  8 месяцев назад +3

      I covered this a bit in a DCR Supporter video, but in short, COROS is free to choose which media they send stuff to. Equally, I'm free to get around to covering things when I cover them. In this case, I've long been a huge fan of the COROS Pace lineup (well before anyone even knew this company existed, when they were making helmets). So short of the thing catching fire on my wrist, COROS would likely have had a good review of this watch given the solid price to features value. Instead, they got distracted, as I'm sure you can read all about on Reddit...

      It depends a bit on if you've got any sensors. The COROS Pace 3 only supports Bluetooth sensors, and doesn't support things like ANT+ sensors, or Cycling Radar units, cycling lights, etc... While COROS has lots of great features for running, most of that doesn't really carry over to cycling. Thus, I'd probably go FR255 here for cycle-specific usage.

    I like my pace2 can it be that the pace2 hr sensor is more accurate?

    • @maxfreeman6343
      @maxfreeman6343 8 месяцев назад +1

      No, the sensor of Pace 3 should be better in general, and probably will be improved with software updates. From my personal experience, the sensor of Pace 2 is OK for running/walking only, and only when the watch is fixed quite tight on my wrist. Any other activity that involves arms (like cycling outdoors, lifting, etc.) will negatively affect the HR sensor accuracy. The same conclusion you can find in the reviews from @dcrainmaker (the article on his site), @fitgearhunter, @TheQuantifiedScientist (see his review of Vertix 2 watch, it has the same HR sensor).
      However, in your case (for example, because of skin tone, blood vessels "layout", the way you got used to mount the watch) Pace 2 sensor may perform as good as the newer one (but I still believe that it can be true only for the activities that do not involve your wrists muscules).

      I think for a runner, with only $20 difference between the two, the Forerunner 255 is in a pretty strong spot. It's something I touched on the written review, in that COROS is in a great-spot pricing wise when it's $229 vs $349. But when the Forerunner 255 is only $249 ($20 more than the Pace 3), it's very hard to recommend Pace 3 over Forerunner 255.

      Depends on the price. Pace 2 does not have (and never will) the new HR sensor, pulse-oximeter sensor, dual-band GPS and on-board music, but it will get the same software updates as Pace 3 by the end of the year. Turn-by-turn navigation, weather widget, hiking and winter sports modes - it all will be there. However, there will be the moment when Coros will drop support of Pace 2, but "today is not this day", as Aragorn once said. Currently Coros does not roll out new features only on Pace 1 and Apex 42/46 mm.
      IMHO, if you do not run by skyscrapers, and do not listen to music during training, Pace 2 will be perfectly fine for you. I would buy it for 150$ or less in that case.
      Also, HR sensor of Pace 2 is OK for running only. Activities like cycling outdoors or lifting will probably require a Bluetooth/ANT+ chest strap.

      Few Year back I switch from Garmin - Coros ( Apex Pro , Apex , Apex 2 ) spend almost 2 yr with Coros now switch back to Garmin 255.
      here's a reason
      1. Pace laggy is a problem with every Coros I had . You pick up the pace & it's take few sec to show on your screen.
      2. Screen is not easy to read during the run
      3. GPS not as good as Garmin . for example My last Coros Apex 2 give me short distance in all my run activity ( my 10k route become 9.6. , 9.4 , 9.5 km ) & that's why I switch back to Garmin.

      Coros is essentially a clone of garmin but still very far behind and slow to develop. They don’t listen to their customers. So many people make requests for features and changes and they just don’t listen. For example on the walking profile you cant set a distance alert. You can only set a steps alert. How stupid is that. When I’m walking my dog I’d like distance alerts. When I and many ask them about this they say their focus group wanted steps alert only but they’ll pass my suggestion on to the developers. Still waiting
      Other downsides
      -No proper support for FTMS protocol so can’t get data from treadmills
      -Dropped ant+ support
      -They constantly reworking algorithms so lots of metrics get messed up.
      -Don’t support wide range of sensors so you have to use their footpod for example.
      - the watch takes a bit longer then other brands to adjust to changes in pace and heart rate
      Garmin benefits
      Has everything coros has + pace pro, climb pro, connect IQ store, ant+, streaming music and they are constantly updating
      The pace 3 could’ve been amazing but it’s really not even worth upgrading from pace 2. At least pace 2 has some ant+ support
