I hope you found this video helpful. I'd really like to hear your thoughts about this product in the comments below. Also, here's a link to some great products I use to keep my bikes up and running! kit.co/rgmtb/bike-wash-and-maintain-stuff
I’d suggest you read the first comment after yours that explains how you’re using this item incorrectly.
youre running the chain thru the cleaner backwards.
you are supposed to back pedal instead to clean the chain and the degreaser will drop down into the bottom reservoir. You don't see much at the bottom because the degreaser is just circulating in the chain and not dropping down
you are pedaling the opposite way my friend thats why the dirty fluid is droping on the flor and not in the device...
Good info. With the other cleaners, this is the way to pedal so I just thought it was correct. Thank you for the insight 👍
@@rgmtb No you always pedal backwards because u can use them on de ground ;)
I found funny because he say's 'pedaling backwards' but he pedals frontwards haha
@@rgmtb pedal backwards on Parktool cleaner as well,
I’ve had mine a year and no broken teeth yet, it’s fine as long as you know how to open it correctly 😅 but I understand they would break easily if you did it wrong.
I like the design with the button better than the other designs where it just bathes it in the pool… The fluid turns black and dirty and you end up just running the chain through all the dirt that you have just cleaned off. The Muc-Off machine keeps the chain away from the used dirty fluid and ensures that it only comes in contact with the clean fluid 🙂
The bottle is refillable so you can put whatever you like inside it, and if that bottle ever breaks you can buy empty vape juice bottles online which will do the same job 😅
I’m a bit confused by everybody saying you should back pedal though…. I had been back pedalling the whole time, but I just noticed the other day that the machine had an arrow on it (I’m assuming the arrow is to indicate direction of travel for the chain) but you would have to forward pedal to go in the same direction as the arrow… you could of course turn the machine the other way, but then the handle would be on the wrong side 🤔 Could anybody clear this up for me? I never read the instructions and I’ve lost them now lol 🤦🏻♂️
Arrow just means to put it on facing the frint handle outside forward not for pedaling
I just purchased one on the internet before checking out your video to get a better look at how to use it as sometimes the instructions are blah. You brought up some interesting points and at least I know now what to look out for.
Glad it was helpful
Did you never realize that pedaling the other way would have given the fluid a higher chance of dripping into the box?
Many people have brought that point it. To be honest it really pointless since there are many other aspects of this cleaner that are poorly designed.
It's not poorly designed at all. It works excellent. If you use it the way you did in this video everytime, like a goofball... I can see why you think it's poorly designed. Your issues with this are more user based than issues with the product quality and functionality.
You needed to pedal it the other way because them sponges inside dry the chain 👍
I’ve used mine for almost a year now, amazing
I just drilled a hole in the top reservoir to get ride of the funky fill-it-with-a-special-bottle routine.
I've never had a problem with the lid - maybe just go steady first time eh? Anyway it's a brilliant device in my opinion and works great. I wouldn't fill up to fill line I don't think you need to use as much as that and if you do top it up mid way through. I pedal the opposite direction when cleaning it. My one get lots of use here in the UK - lots of rain and mud! Be ready with paper towel!
I plan to revisit this review and bring in a few other products to test against. Thanks for your feedback :-)
You are absolutely right, I bought the cleaner, and the end clips just broke the very first use
I need to do a follow-up video on this because I could have done a few things differently but that won't change how I feel about those tabs. Sorry to hear yours broke.
I have come across your channel yesterday and subscribed. Keep up the good work mate. Hi from Scotland 🏴
it looks like you can pop the top off the bottle and fill it with whatever you like? I could be wrong, but seem to ??
the new version of this cleaner is way more different, you get a spray can now with a much smaller cleaner device. you just spray through a little tube on the chain and you dont have this chamber anymore, also there are no breaking thingys anymore.
and the spray is bio degradable, i dont know if this is good, because you have oil in it, so its no more bio degradable anyways... 😄
Thanks for this! I just added the new one to my shopping cart and plan to do a brand new review thanks to your post!
@@rgmtb nice to hear that, I'm curious about your test!
I like the design on the park tool chain cleaner better
Muc-Off is the best! I broke down and bought their power washer. It's a lot of fun to clean our bikes now! That chain cleaner is biodegradable too.
That's what got me confused about this product. Muc-Off totally does make some great products for sure. I'm in no way punting on this company. But this chain cleaner just isn't doing it for me. I've kicked around getting that pressure washer. Glad you like it 👍
I had to get the pressure washer too, and my bike has never been cleaner 😀😀
Can you refill that container of green slime? Maybe with some other cleaning solution? My ParkTool one is getting on in age and I was thinking of replacing it. Might not go this route.
I'm not sure if you can but I'm not digging that step if I have to. I've used both the Park Tool and Finish Line chain cleaners. Both allow me to dump whatever cleaner I want in them.
Very good review. Love the details. Thanks!
good review. Saved me buying it and regretting it.
Happy to help
Can you not refill the bottle with simple green?
Bought this recently in the sale. Overall it's decent and does the job, its definitely the lazy, quick, easy way lol which ever way you want to put it but it does work. It doesn't substitute a deep clean of the chain but i don't think its meant to.
I saw this video prior to buying, so I was aware of the clips but I can see how someone could break it if not treated with some care … a design they could improve on.
I peddled backwards instead, the pink reservoir pushes the gunk off and it collects in the clear base. It's a mechanical device so I can't see any reason why this won't work with other chain cleaners, but I've never tested that.
I encountered no problems during operation, but you do feel the interface between the handle, pushing the button, and turning the chain at the same time a little bit like catching plates on three limbs first time around :D No biggie, but like others have said more complicated than it needs to be.
Not sure I'd pay the RRP for this particular kit, but it can always be picked up during the sales in which case why not.
Excellent feedback!
@@rgmtb Thanks, likewise. I was unsure what the cleaning results would be like, but after watching your review I pulled the trigger.
I just keep a jar of dirty simple green around to soak my chains. I got a Chinese knockoff of the park one, very hard to use on a coaster brake bike too.
Will a Dirtbike chain fit in this?
and i agree..having to hold the item..push a button..turn the pedals is a lot fo mess with to clean a chain...i mean it seems to do a good job..AND I really need to invest in a good chain cleaner. I scrub my chain/drivetrain about 1x a year lol..
I got one of those, it was ok, not great quality for the cost though..
Mine worked fine, because I was peddling backwards..
Yeah, apparently it was brought to my attention that I did not pedal correctly. I need to do a redo of this review. But that will not change my thoughts of the quality.
Good video. Thank you !
How does the product perform after prolonged use? Worth buying? 🤔
this thing makes no sense. great review, you mentioned a lot of valid concerns.
yes there are better products out there. I prefer to use Finish Line Grunge Brush, I spray cleaner or degreaser on it, and clean the chain, I flip it to cover all the sides of the chain.
it's very easy and fast way of cleaning the chain.
ditto
Thanks!!!
More even, evener!
I'm not a Regular Guy or even just a guy; I'm a stooopid girlie-girl, but that means I always RTFM before using new stuff... [RTFM = Read The F***ing Manual😁.]
I see no one noticed that you have your quick link on your chain the wrong way around 🙄.
I just ordered one from Amazon it came with teeth already broken off. Bad design
So when you say pedal backwards?…😂
Also lower part of chain still not level. 👊🏼
You didn’t show the chain after the cleaning process….. think that was important. But nice video anyway.
You were pedaling the wrong way.
Always make sure to read the instructions.
That chain cleaning machine is easier to use if you put it on the upper chain.
Thank you for this tip 👍

My guy 🤦♀️ ..why say peddle backwards, when you're doing the opposite 🤨
Smh fix ur mistakes :/
pedal backwards....lol....clearly that is forwards
actually pedal backwards and the wipers will capture the muck smh
Far too diplomatic, you think it’s crap, just say it’s crap.
Hahahaha!
you were pedaling to fast and the wrong way
Should read the instructions before making a video! Thanks
Jesus , you pedaling the wrong way 🤣 you should remove your video , then everything is wrong
