There is a lot of folks out there that should be thankful for all your diligence, research and development that are .300 Black out shooters. You have covered the practical accuracy, the hunting applications, the suppressed sub loads and the supersonic aspects of the cartridge, Not only that, However also going outside the lines of the published data (A thing that I personally wouldn't do on a reloading channel) at risk of damage's to you and your firearms. You always Make it a point to show your Logic behind it and what risk you expect.. Not Willy Nelly doing it like some Idiot. anyway.. Much appreciated Johnny.. Keep up the good work.. Dave

@@GunFunZS You have no business loading 300 Cosby subsonic if you are scared of running a compressed load. I try to squeak out every last bit to get to 1050 FPS. My Western Powders book has me using compressed loads almost exclusively even as a starting load. 220 grain, 12.5 grains of LT-30 is already compressed just starting. Reloading isn’t for those who are extremely risk averse.

yeah. I think they might be different twist rates too. A lot of the pistol length barrels are 1:7, and all the 16" barrels I have seen for sale were 1:8. I think that was what AR stoner's barrels are. I think I would like the pistol and carbine length barrels to be the same twist so I don't need to make two sets of ammo.

I know this video is 4 years old. Very much has changed since. What hasn't, thank God, is that 150 grain bullets are actually still somewhat available in my area. Amazing... can't find a small rifle primer to safe my soul, or even a descent pound of rifle powder, or new brass, or small grain bullets... but 150's are on the shelf! Yay!!
As soon as I get my $160.00 brick of CCI #41's from Gun Broker(what a rip off...) I can start loading my 3037's. Can't barely wait, but I'm sure it will take at least 4-6 weeks to get my primers, that is if they didn't just flat steal my money....

Great job … just came across you and enjoy your information … because of the AMMO shortage I took up reloading again and had to buy a lot of reloading items and this is my first rifle reloading and the bullet I love the 300 AAC Blackout. I basically hand load the bullets and I am lucky getting the bullets and this powder your are trying. Primers are nonexistent and trying to find some without spending a years salary. Without spark plugs the gun don’t run🙄😳🥴

My Hornady manual was published before CFE Black came out. Ive got 2lbs. Hornady lumps their data for all their 150 and 155gr together aside from the COAL. Hogdon still only has data for the 150 IB so I planned on using the IB data for CFE and applying it to the Interlock I had. What I find interesting is this has always been common place, but I've seen so many posts on reloading forums where people freak out at the thought of substituting.

Thanks for all your fiddling, lol Seriously I have enjoyed watching several hours this weekend. Really informative. I don't shoot 300Blk. Are your results inline with other 300blk shooters?
Compressed loads, I don't have any problems with lightly-compressed loads. There has been issues when using boat tails and getting runout, probably not a big issue at close range. I would like to see a couple of things. Shoot from a gun mount that takes you out of the variables. Try shooting factory loads close to your hand loads, when your groups stink, and or have a second shooter using your gun and loads.
You seem to do a fantastic job reloading with some results enough to make a grown man cry! I have similar results with my shooting and reloading, I start changing too many variables at once so you (me) never determine what the hell is going on. I can't shoot 1-minute groups with my AR.
Thanks Again for the Great Videos

I want more CFE black videos. Also in your breakdown video, please discuss optimum bullet for a 110 -130 grain match type bullet, that can be affordably purchased in quantity. I'm trying to set up a 3-gun rig with such a bullet, and probably try to clone the projectile in cast lead for affordability.

    • @GunFunZS
      @GunFunZS 7 лет назад

Thanks for getting back on this David. RUclips messed up the comment system, so I just noticed your reply. To my mind, your barrel is nearly what I want- I think. Lemme explain. All the pistols seem to have 1-8 barrels to stabilize the heavy bullets. I would like if possible to make the same ammo run well in both the pistol and the carbine. So that means I want a pistol lenght gas system on the carbine like yours, but probably a 1-7 twist rate to match the pistols and run the heavy subs that I cast. The only manufacturer selling a 1-7 twist barrel that I can find is Windham, which they are only selling as a complete rifle, with carbine length gas. -- What do you think? Am I on the right track, or just needlessly hunting for a unicorn?

    Hey JRB
Wanted to let you/all know that I tried loading and shooting some 150 gr Hornady FMJBT with 10 - 10.2 grains of A1680 (subsonic) and filling the remainder of the case capacity (to the rim as suggested) with Puff-lon case filler in order to alleviate the powder position issue. Though I didn't have a chronograph I can tell you that I was still getting inconsistent velocities (many super, some sub) despite no powder movement in the case. It may be that I have to go lower on the powder charge and the Puff-lon, as it's likely adding pressure to the case. The good news however is that Puff-lon shot out very cleanly and only some loose powdery residue that was easy to clean off. Definitely a good case filler choice. Looking forward to seeing your results with the light subsonics using CFE BLK!
Gun tested: 16" carbine gas barrel, converted LC 223 brass, JP silent capture spring/buffer, CCI 400 primers, ~50ºF, at sea level, overcast.

I have found a little forward preload on the bipod makes for better groups. I also notice your cadence seems between one and two seconds per shot. Just a guess, you might slow down and focus a bit on trigger press,,and calling your shot. The buttplate nut might be loose!!

I really don't think my barrel likes this bullet weight.
My 147 loads were shocking as far as grouping is concerned though i did see some improvement on the heavily compressed CFE BLK side. I do need to try a better primer before i give up.
Factory loadings from Winchester and S&B grouped 2 MOA at very best

I would like to know how you are compressing the 150grs at 21grs. At 20.5, mine push back out of the case from 2.11 to 2.15. You must have your converted cases trimmed at max length. My best groups are at 20.5, but some slight over gassed signs. I run at 19 grs for a plinking load

WARNING Love your channel but I'm concerned about this video. I was planning on loading up some plinkers so looked up my favorite source (you). You mention the Hodgdon data says you can only get 33,500 psi with a max load with CFE-BLK. That has to be a mistake on the part of Hodgdon. There is no way you could get those velocities at 33,500 psi. My GRT file says we are over max pressure at 20 gr CFE BLK at C.O.L. - 2.1 inches. I realize this is an old video but I figured I'd say something. I'm going to call Hodgdon and ask 'em WTF? They have a lot of CFE BLK data that claims remarkably low pressures.
