    You see the powder on the shelf or in the book, but what exactly is it best for? This time I’m taking a closer look at Hodgdon’s CFE BLK, a powder I’ve used in both rifles and handguns.

    I’ve had great success with CFE BLK (11.0 grains) and 220grain Berrys Bullets (300 blackout). Just under the sound barrier with great groups.

    You are 100% correct about it in the 17 Hornet, best powder I have used in it. It also works well in my 458 SoCom and my 8.6 Blackout. I have also used it in the 32-20 with 115gr cast bullets.

    I'm using it in the .300 HAM'R exclusively with the data provided from Wilson Combat. It's spot on and extremely consistent through my 16" WC barrel in an AR with an adjustable gas system and Brownell's lightweight carrier.

      Just shot my first 300 Hanr loads CFE BLK & 130gr Speer Hotcor in a 16" Wilson Combat barrel. 5 shots @ 100yd in 1.5", 2285 fps, not a max load.

    • @Beard_Man_Rob
      @Beard_Man_Rob 7 месяцев назад

      @allenjohnson5651 I'm running the max load under the Lehigh Defense 125gr Controlled Chaos, which very consistently averages 2400 fps. That is a very accurate bullet for this cartridge, as it printed multiple 5 shot strings hovering around 1 inch. I loaded some 147gr milsurp FMJs, and it definitely did not like those at all. They are running about 2180 fps, but were shooting 4"-6" groups at 100 yards. Great for fire forming brass and plinking, but definitely not suitable for showing the gun off!

      @grantensrud9185 7 месяцев назад

      I am having trouble finding bulk bullets in 110 to 150 grn fmj. I have self-healingf Infiniti targets no hollow point and best if not soft point at all. I have a box of 110gr controlled Chaos I haven't tried.

    • @Beard_Man_Rob
      @Beard_Man_Rob 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@grantensrud9185 You won't really find too many that are suitable for the .300 HAM'R. In addition, it's not really intended for high-volume shooting with the specialty brass required. I bought some VMax, Hot Cor, and Controlled Chaos to load in it since most of WC's load data lines up with hunting bullets.

    CFE BLK is a a solid, useful 300 Blackout powder. I like it for subsonics and target loads with medium-to-heavy bullets.
    BUT it is truly on point as a 7.62x39 powder, so much so that my nickname for it is CFE Soviet. Performs equal to Acc 1680 in that cartridge with less pressure and less muzzle flash. Meters smooth as silk.

  • @moushunter
    @moushunter 7 месяцев назад +3

    I've used the CFE 223 with great results in 223 rem. I'd like to see a comparison of the CFE BLK to the Shooter's World Black. I've been using the Shooter's World Black in 300blackout and it shoots nice. I worked up a load with 150 gr bullets with pretty good results. Hardly any bullet drop from 75 to 150 yards. 175 grain subsonic, not suppressed, was eh!. I don't have any heavier 30 cal bullets! I'm not so much a fan of alley ooping bullets downrange much though. 16 inch bullet drop at 75 yards with a starting load to a 16" drop at 100 yards with a not quite maximum charge. Shooter's World (Lovex) doesn't publish extensive load data for many of their powders. It becomes a guessing game without a chronograph. I'd like to see them get more attention and more data generated.

    Gav can you do a video or maybe even a series on reloading for a 5.56 SBR or Ar Pistols. I’m sure a lot of people out there would be curious to have an idea of what powders give the best performance out of 7.5, 10.5, and 11.5 in barrels tuning the round to get max velocity and avoiding the wasteful fireball at the muzzle due to slower burning powders

    Tried it in .17 Hornet. It grouped very poorly. Lil' gun and AA1680 performed MUCH better with 1680 the best, the latter being the standard powder for the cartridge. I will eventually retest CFEBLK as it had to have been some type of anomaly to have groups that large.
