I have to he 6 speed in my 03. I don’t tow anywhere near the weight you pull, but it has no problem pulling 10,000 lbs down the road. It pulls a lot better then my 93 1st gen with the NV4500, but then again I’m not comparing apples to apples in the motor department. Keep up with the good work. Can’t get over how fast that little guy of yours is growing in the other videos
I remember when you first started doing RUclips and this was the primary truck besides the 4500 you were working on. Now you've got how many trucks lol. And two challengers charger etc. Nice work man
Came out nice Sam. Dually is the way to go when towing, in my opinion. I felt terrible when you reached out for those adapters and I had to tell you they were gone. Sorry...Now that we are seeing that big ball in the sky again I need to bring my truck down for you to look at...I have that unicorn you were talking about...
That machine you were talking about that guy towing with a PJ or Big Tex was a small track digger/bucket for the power company. We use them a lot in the right of way where we can’t get trucks to the poles
Def keep an eye on your grid heater bud for your 6.7's That bolt can melt and hit your 6 cyl. Up north in canada I need it but banks has there ram air intake horn with a heater coil.
Hands down G56 all day everyday. Thanks for the video, I was hoping you were going to do a towing video with the new trans. I feel your frustration with the gooseneck rail system hitch. Out of my 5 trucks, one of them has the same rail gooseneck system and it sucks. It makes noise and takes up too much room in my bed but I bought it because I got a killer deal and I needed any gooseneck hitch to get me by at the time.
You like the ford, don't talk about it😂😂😂 personally owned both the NV4500 and a NV5600 now. I enjoyed driving both. My 5600 is nice when I'm towing heavy with less step between gears, but on days when I run errands in it I feel like all I do is shift lol. Loved our 4500, but keeping 5th gear tight seemed to be an issue. Loved driving the 5 speed though.
Nice job on that Sam!! The motor sounds great, and it looks like it drives great!! I've been looking around here for a dually to have a small part time biz transporting campers. 5th wheels especially, and I wouldn't do it without a dually. Hauling campers to shows, retail deliveries, customer moves and back to the factory for repairs pays pretty good here. I can get an extra $1/mile with a 2 man crew too. Anything as nice as this would be $35k+, even that old with those miles. The no-rust of course is huge too!! Nice job on that one!! --gary
Thanks for the videos and the learning! We have a ‘97 dually five speed 410 gearing 4x4 which we are currently using to haul a slide in camper. Being that it is a rear drum brake it didn’t come with larger rims that are needed to fit over the rear discs. But with larger tires the gap is to close, so I would like to go with larger rims. Used rims from a newer dually would be great or maybe 19.5s which I’m not to excited about because of ride comfort, perhaps that is not an issue though with an older truck. If you have suggestions or know of any used rims or should we go with new rims, please let me know. Thank you!
That’s how I found your channel! I want a load leash, and need one, but they no longer make them, I know it’s not the content most your subscribers are after, but it’d still be pretty cool, keep doin you man! And if by some odd chance your p59 loadleash isn’t for your 04, hit me up! I know that’s exceptionally unlikely but I figured I better throw it out there. Great content as always, keep goin, both channels!
I wish I knew about filing the ridges off the splines before this. I did my nv5600 swap and a Val air dual disk and the only complaint is it’s a bitch to get it into some gears
I got a 2001 regular cab 4x4 dually with a NV 4500. I only pull 13-15000lb mostly. Was thinking about doing a NV5600 swap but can’t find a lot of positive things about them.
Can’t find anything positive about an NV5600??? They’re the strongest trans offered from Dodge. They can be a little clunky (limited experience with a G56 says they shift smoother) but you’ll never break one.
I have the NV4500 5 Speed Manual in a 98 single wheel and I like it,I only tow a 32-foot RV for now. Have been curious the hear what you think about the gains or losses I would experience in swapping to a G56 6-speed Manual ? thanks
I had the rail fifth wheel and it made all kind of noise even with my 16000 lb trailer. It was in an 03 ram diesel dually 4x2 the biggest pile of???? . My 1989 12 valve 4x4 wd250 pull 12000 lb trailer better than the 03 .1989 was 160 hp 400 torque. It had a getrag 5 speed with 354 gears. 03 235 460 torque with a modified 47re and 373 gears .my 2021 4x4 3500 single rear wheel pulls 20000 lb really well. It has 373 gears with 370hp and 850 torque and a68rfe and when it blows up my transmission guy will build it to be bullet proof. Denis.
No, your ‘89 didn’t pull better than the ‘03. No one believes that and having time behind the whee of both, I know you’re full of it. Be realistic guy. Oh, PS, your ‘21 has the better AS69, the AS68 was the chassis cab trans from ‘07-‘12. The 69 is WAY better than the 68 was
Great video, I got a stock 04.5 3500 single wheel with the automatic, she will tow 10,000 lbs, but its workin, shes still got a lot more guts then a stock 96 12v. Does a tuner make that big of a difference for towing?
Wondering what your thoughts are on the best option for me I have a p pumped cummins with an nv4500 with 3.73 gears and my trans has the 5.04:1 reverse gear wich is absolutely terrible and I want a better reverse gear which pre 97 I believe had the 5.61:1 gear can't find anywhere that says if you can physically change the gears in the trans or not or should I just try to find a nv5600 from what I can find they have the 5.61:1 reverse gear I'm only running 265/75r16s because I don't want to make my reverse gearing worse with bigger tires there are times I have had to go into low range to even get a loaded trailer to move without trashing my clutch
What kind of exhaust brakes do you run? I have 2005 chevy 2500hd that I cummins nv4500 swapped and I really want to add an exhaust brake to it. My brother has an 07 ram 3500hd with the 5.9l and it's got a cummins exhaust brake and I can say it's not impressive at all in my opinion.
@V-BELT and SON many years have that spec from Cats to Detriots and Volvos and Macks, even few paccars. Lots of real Cummins have specs close to those. Most cumaparts don't start to pull until 1200-1250rpm. Even the Production X15s don't pull that hard under 1200.i have yet to see more than a hand full of ISX/X15s make it to a million km before a rebuild.
@V-BELT and SON that nothing to do with towing heavy, besides the walk is good for you. Can't take the trailer with either. Also, you can't order without shutting off the clatter of the diesel engine. Like I says every time, to each their own. That's why is started "if I have to" it's a matter of opinion. Personally, I can't stand any I6 over 1700rpm. As an owner operator, that has a truck that's getting just a hair under 10mpg empty(tare is 42k) and 8.5mpg loaded(at 140k), I don't think my opinion is based in what I prefer, over what makes money. It doesn't matter in the end, drive what you like and keep working.

They get a lot of hate, but personally I don't think you can beat a G56. Too bad the factory had to go and derate them so much. Killed the market so they could claim no one wanted them. Pulling heavy off road on a ranch the automatic Trans get way too hot, even in 4 low. On top of that engine seems to run warm too. The G56 trucks just idle along, shift smooth, exhaust break works down to 5 mile an hour, and nothing ever gets warm.
What ratio rear you running? Looking at a 17 with the g56 and 3.42 rear towing 15,000 toyhauler 5 months out of the year .Wonder if that'll be a good combo or under geared
@@VBELTandSON maybe one day you'll have me convinced to be a mopar guy again! No, I had a 2012 ram 3500 the f450 replaced. If it was a manual that's a different story! They are all good. But carry on with your rams as I know that's all you do lol, but i like your content! I Like your purple ram build the best for some reason!
Juuunnnnkkkkk.. junk junk. Common rail equal🤢. Jk. Love these old Cummins and nothing can ever equal to the low end grunt of a Cummins. They become better with RPMs. Except am I the only one that hates the "crack" that the common do. Does a second gen intake really do away with that? I have a regular cab. 3500 04 and half with the 600 sticker on the black. Of course she's got some work down and a NV5600. 4.10s. she'll get you to 90 right now if you can hit the gears. Start in third skip to about 4000rpms skip 4th build the boost back in 5th but even then it wants 6th and your pinned back. It fast to 90mph then runs out of gears so. Not a race rig but would probably be faster pulling anything behind. Love that truck. Haven't dyno it unfortunately, but we're guessing 550 HP and over 1000 ft lbs torque.
