Training can have an undesired side - effect: when getting better and better is your motivation, every new PB is a great achievement and reason to work harder. But everybody eventually gets to the place, when improvements are much smaller comparing to the effort put into training. And such a person can loose interest in training.
Working out for fitness and health can never end. Because you work to maintain the decent level of your health, weight and fitness. Improvement of results is just a byproduct. You will probably not win any olympic medal, but every progress is fun. Health and fitness - is free.
And I personally - hate testing myself. I just want to be fit and healthy, the knowledge about my 2k time is irrelevant.

So well explained and so true! A lot of psychology that can be applied for a lot of things in life! ( work, recovery from injury, etc.) Thank you for this great video!

Exactly. Many parts of this expand out far beyond rowing.

Great advice. "Working out" sounds like "work" to a lot of people, doing something for someone else. "Training" is so much more personal. And answers the question "why am I doing this?"

I just wrote down eight reasons WHY I row and am thinking more strategically about how to fulfill these reasons. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Dude that was so inspiring even beyond training but it also translates in professional and other parts of private life. Thanks for Sharing

Happy to hear that! It's funny how the lessons that come from rowing expand far beyond the movement and far more in to life.

I am sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more. I use rowing for a lot of things, and been using it a lot for the last 2.5 years. When I use it less is normally cause I am playing a lot of tennis or biking in the mountains…

One of my problems was going for a PB every time. Good to do a casual workout now and then.

I have got myself motivated by trying to row xxkm by xxmin. Find it fun and challenging as compared to looking at the sets and feel pressured, procrastinate and 'do it tmr' which never come.hahha

I start rowing for workout on my own before and could barely reach 10 min. because it's so boring. Lately I try again and follow your "Ultimate Beginner Rowing Machine Workout: 2021 Edition - 30 Minute Row". Really see the different and now I enjoy it. I've repeat the workout 4-5 times now and feel like time fly while at it. And I also like the way you give us the positive mindsets and positive energy. So Thank you : ) I've hit subscribe : )

I literally was just re-evaluating the workout program I signed up for. After reviewing it I said to myself “this is so discouraging” because I fell for the whole hype of the advertisement.
Funny the rower is my ultimate goal to incorporate every week and I have because of you! Thanks for this video I definitely needed it because yes, I want to workout for my health ant that is my “why”.

    • @DarkHorseRowing
      @DarkHorseRowing  3 года назад

Patricia, keep digging in to it. WHY is your health important to you? So that what can happen or be possible? Then ask again, and again, and again. Keep going and you'll find that deep importance.

Been rowing about a month on a c2. Can hit 7k in under 30 mins on level 10. Should I work to improve time. Or aim for 10k? Is there any point to try to go over 30 mins

First up you should find a video to tell you about the "level" aka the damper

This is so spot on! I have struggled for the last 20 years, since I finished training for competitive swimming and water polo. I’ve always said I have gym ADHD, bc I love working out but I’ve never had a plan that lead anywhere, bc I didn’t know how to make a plan that lead somewhere. I tried hiring a trainer and did outline my goals to him, but he didn’t know how to write a program to get me to my goals. It was frustrating bc it was written in a way that I could measure my progress within the program, it just kept me in the same spot in terms of my original intent. I just can’t believe how, in all my life experience, I’ve never put together the differences between training and working out to realize why I’ve failed to be consistent on my path to physical fitness as an adult.
