If developer's take away from this failure is "don't make new IPs" instead of "don't try to make the game about money" then I have no hope for the future of gaming

The real shame of this game is that somewhere out there, there is a version of this that hits that sweet spot. Getting the right amount of rng, the right monitisation model and a clear non payment progress of progress is what this game needed from the get go.

Valve for whatever reason so many years after Hearthstone decided they wanted to join the TCG train and milk some of the players out of their money. But they went at it so hard that it was just a giant economic barrier to even play the game. It's really unlike Valve to go this kind of route, the whole community thought they were getting a Dota Hearthstone disruptor hat would have been very cheap to play but instead got the exact opposite. Also they literally had tcg streamers test the game and they all hated the RNG, and for whatever reason did nothing about it.

It's sad because artifact was a good game. Just needed a f2p modell and tweeks on RNG.

that's exactly what it needed! but valve didn't listen to the player base back in the day.

Great video overall, I really liked pacing and the general flow of content. My main criticism is some of the voice over cuts are way too quick and inconsistent. Otherwise a very solid video.

Because I went to TI, I got artifact for free. To me the monetization was heavy but justifiable. To think people had to pay for this game and then pay for the cards like I did, well it is no wonder it failed.

Lets just say that it wasnt the fact it was a new ip . It wasnt even a totally new ip... They just looked at the end goal and thought YES and lost themselves on the way

How does this prove that new IPs are too risky? They created a new game based on one of their existing IPs. If anything, this proves that slapping on a familiar product to sell one of lower quality does nothing but dwindle the trust your consumers have.

I liked artifacts gameplay and economy a lot. Honestly I blame the players. The randomness fit dota a lot. And the real life cost made the cards real. I don't understand how people saw it as greed.... I made money playing that game lol.

Dude, Valve did the right thing, and the community didn't care, and it's the same community that "complains" that other companies like EA don't do what Valve did with Artifact. It's worth mentioning that I'm not a fan of Artifact, I've never installed it, and probably never will, but Valve took responsibility.

@@d0k0night I wasn't saying if it was a bad game or not. Normally a company would just throw it under the bus, but Valve tried to hear the community and fix the game accordingly.
