My family just bought a 100+ year old house and I totally understand the joy of finding exactly the piece that will fit in your house. I drove by a thrift shop a few weeks ago and saw a gorgeous hutch (maybe about twice as big as yours) in the front window and the price tag said $100. I was like, there's no way that price is right, I must have missed a zero, but no! $100! I don't know who in their right mind would ever sell and antique hutch like that for a price that low, but I certainly took advantage of it!

Also pro tip: because of the way NS garbage works, people have such a hard time throwing anything other than the weekly garbage out so there are a lot of places with barns FULL of old antiques and furniture they couldn't throw out, if you are looking for other very specific old things, ask around, you just gotta make the right friends/find the right people lol We ended up finding a lot of cool items from some random persons grandma XD

Yeah, keep in touch with that plumber. They clearly did good work, kept you involved and welcome, and gave you a good price on the work. That they put in that access port to let you easily snake the line out means they're taking good care of you as a client. They might have cut you a break on the scrap value of the line they pulled out of the dirt; it was probably cast iron. Plus lucky horseshoe! If they do this kind of work, consider having them back out to help with the standing water you have in your backyard.

Last year my neighbors left this old steamer trunk out of the garbage so I took it and cleaned it and applied three coats of varnish to the entire thing... Then I found these small coffee table legs at home depot and stained them with ebony stain and anchored them to the trunk with 2x4's on the inside and it's truly the most beautiful thing I've ever made. First of all, I think it is important that home owners understand their homes. this can keep them from being scammed as well as simply increasing their knowledge of the world. and second, whatever repair I am doing, I have done hundreds of times and it can get boring... having a homeowner there to explain things to, helps me realize the importance of that individual job and thereby helps to remove that boredom. I just watched this episode and, out of curiosity, searched "antique sink" on Facebook Marketplace in BC's Fraser Valley area and, lo and behold, the exact same sink popped up - listed today. I wish I had the house for it. It was priced at $350.00. I tell you, Marketplace has really come through for me this year as well. Love the pink floor!

You're in Nova Scotia, and your show seems to be turning into The Curse Of Oak Island. Love it.

Love the sink! I have an old farmhouse with a sink just like it. Can’t wait to update the kitchen with it.

Also - dog-ear some money to replace the furnace. It will go during the coldest week of winter (they always do).

Thank you so much for doing this series! I'm living vicariously through you! My partner and I are hoping to get our own 'haunted' house to restore in the near future, and you've emboldened us both to try doing more things on our own than we thought would be possible. Even 'simple' things like when you talked about patching up 'Wilber.' Keep 'em coming! (I can also totally relate to your sink elation--the sink in our current flat is so godawful that I too have daydreamed of 'the perfect sink.')

I love that sink, it was like the sink we had when I was a kid. Great find. Horseshoe luck!

Nice score on the sink. We have three of these and they are incredible. PRO TIP: use barkeepers friend ONLY! NEVER use ajax or comet etc...
