Haze Outdoors has the most original presentation of videos. Makes you feel like you're in the privileged company of this top bloke. Awesome banter witty repartee, factual, absolutely no BS and splendid reviews of gate and latches.
Recently started to use a medium weight Ortlieb Drybag ( 79L roll top ) inside my pack, which allowed me to do away with extra dry bags ( still use v thin nylon non waterproof stuffsacks to compact some things) and makes it much easier & more compact to pack. Also no need for a Rucksack rain cover. Like the extra feel of security it gives - knowing everything will be kept absolutely dry ! Will never go back to individual drybags / plastic bags etc for Backpacking trips from now on. ( Tent & possibly Waterproofs will need a waterproof stuffsack if packed inside ) Love the channel, all the best from "Sunny" Scotland.
Sounds like a good plan that mate. I do like the different dry bags because I know what’s in what and I can have them out of the bag and know they’ll be dry. Also a bag cover stops the bag itself getting soaked, dealing with a soaked bag in a tent is harder than dealing with a rain cover I recon but the Ortleb dry bag is defo something I’d consider
When you talked about everything being in individual dry bags and also everything in a rubble sac I could feel the phrase "just belt and braces" on the tip of your tongue! nice video well worth watching.
Just got home from a night with friends staying in Robin Hood's Cave in the Peak District, which was excellent. Took the Soto Windmaster (on your recommendation), really good stove. Cheers!
I know their is some resistance to using military spec backpacks with hikers, and I'd agree when we're talking about the standard 'Bergen', but I'm using the 75L Karrimor SF Odin, and its amazing. I've found I can carry an 18Kg load, for far longer in comfort, than I can carry a 16Kg load in any 'civilian' backpack. Adjustable back & shoulders, So many attachment points for extra storage, a heavy duty water proof cover, and built to a far stronger standard than anything else. As for Winter sleeping bag I use the 3 season Alpkit Cloud 9 (750g) with the Alpkit Nemo quilt (450g) tucked inside, with the foot end cinched tight for my feet to go in, so the quilt doesn't ride up in the night. Far less bulky and lighter combination than a large 4 season bag like the Rab one in this video. That combination gives me a sleep system that is suitable for all seasons.
Dno if u have a cold or maybe ur bollocks have finally dropped but ur voice seems deeper on this video. Also just want to say I have been watching u since u and Mike from TA outdoors done a video together but defo a good few years back but I haven’t missed 1 video u have done since that day and mate I fucking love ye, u put 1000% into everything u put ur mind too and really engage with the viewers to really help us no matter what the subject is, good on u fella and hope u little head is doing okays mate 👍🏻
Great vid hazy mate some really good kit there enjoy your hike be cracking to watch hopefully your feeling better soon and get yourself a nob warmer somewhere to warm your hands on cold nights lol take care mate and all the best 👍👌🔥🔥
I wore my altra 6s out on Monday on a 25 mile hike thry were doing great till I reached the farmers dank cow mess footpath gates and wet slippy cliff edges then they didn't really stand up. Primarily I know there for summer time at best but I can't find any other footwear or make that suit me feet like the lone peaks.
Cracking vid bud. Can you tell me please what type of CBD oil you use . And what strength? Full or broad spectrum. Trying to ease sciatica pain after walking. Can't wait for part 2 🌄🌄👍👍
Absolutely love the content. Thank you. Looked at that list, and there's over €2,700 worth of kit there - Will have to build up my inventory over time. 🙂
You should try the Altra Olympus - Its basically a lone peak, still zero drop but with a bit more cushioning... brilliant! I did the Skye Trail in October with them and they were fantastic... Also, quick guess.... St Cuthberts Trail??
Not sure I could get down to 9.3kg for winter camps mines about 13 the lanshan is a massive weight saving tho. but I just like a bit more comfort and don't do big trips in winter so I'm ok with what I carry looking forward to seeing the vids tho👍
Yes mate!! A mid week hazey.. off out to hallin fell myself this weekend going to have another attempt at doing a RUclips vid.. hopefully I swear less this time 🤣
Looking forward to the video of the hike. I lost my Osprey rucksack cover on the Cumbria Way last year, where do they go🤔. Try EDZ boxers, good quality and price👍.
Hazey is there anything in this packing vid that you left out that’s actually in your bag? About to do a 4 day alpine hike (end of summer here) and using your vid as a sanity check.
An Epi-pen would be a good addition to the medical kit! And an asthma pump. Probably never use them but life savers when you find out that you’re allergic to something you’d never encountered before!!!!
Relieved to see you’ve finally gone the Altra gaiters.. the Montane’s were painful to watch 😂 Real talk though, what weight is the fishing line in your survival canister? And what size hook?!
Alright Hazey, fan on your work mate. I have noticed that most of your gear is quite pricey, can you (or have you) do a vid recommending any good gear that won't mount up to a grand+? Cheers.
I am a very experienced day hiker but am beginning my wild camping adventures this weekend, I’m just wondering, how do you cope with the long hours of darkness during winter camps? I’m obviously a bit apprehensive about and was hoping for your advice? 😊
Yes, I always include that question in my planning, too and that's why I stay at home during the very short days. In my experience, everything is a little more difficult in winter and takes a little longer - so you "use up" more time in the evenings in the camp. You can make a warming fire, it takes a lot of time and warms - old saying: "Wood warms three times: when collecting, when chopping, when heating!" And because the whole day is more strenuous than in summer, I can also sleep longer, starting with the fact that I get tired earlier than usual. So now at the end of February, beginning of March, the days are already long enough for a good balance between daytime activities and sleeping time.
For the occasions where a fire isn't possible then sleep early and rise early/ catch up on sleep. Take a good book or films/entertainment. Alternatively, wait for longer days and go wild camping later in the season.
My advice… get the 600, and wear all your clothes in it. I wear a base layer, lightweight fleece, a second fleece/ synthetic jacket, and then a big down jacket/ belay jacket. Then leggings on my bottom half and if necessary my walking pants as well. ….All that plus a down sleeping bag is plenty. For years I would keep all my spare clothes in my rucksack and cart a gigantic heavy winter bag around. Then I saw the light and now I’m a happy man. In summer I can still use the rab alpine 600 just in my underwear and if it’s really hot unzip the bag and use as a duvet. One bag for all year. Thanks my 2p anyway. 🎉
All depends if you’re a warm sleeper or not mate. I used my alpkit pipedream 400 all year round and that’s a 3 season bag. I just layered up with down jackets etc but these days I go with the scent 900 as it’s only 500g more and gives me a lot more comfort on those really cold nights.

Excellent. However, the lack of Northern Monk, or a fine wine, raises a questioning eyebrow! Are you sure you’ve got this properly covered?😂
