I could cry right now. Thank you so much for this channel. There's not much info on this topic and I'm so thankful to find you!! My son, who's 12 now, had a stroke in-utero which affected the left side of his body and his left hand is basically unusable. I'm on the search to find any info I can on teaching him how to be independent. I try to do everything in my life with one hand so that I can learn how to teach him to do it also. Somethings are definitely harder than others and that's why I'm here.
Victoria, I have worked with Form5 Prosthetics (www.form5.org). Aaron, the founder was born with a shortened arm and is a tireless helper for kids and adults with limb differences. Form5 3-D prints prostheses as well as special products like a bike attachment. One of his projects is for Tatum who has weakness due to birth trauma. He is making him a brace to help him hold a hockey stick. I urge you look all over his website and reach out to him to see what he can do to help you.
Thank you for this. I am havimg hand surgery and won't be able to use it for weeks and I just realized most of my daily tasks will be much more difficult. Googling led me here and you've been very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for this information, I have subscribed to you channel. I have only just injured my wrist and have it up in a wrist splint and it is my dominant wrist, your channel will be great for teaching me cope while in the splint.
I just stumbled upon this after researching about living with one eye, it was recommended to me. You seem so kind and helpful. I think its great youre building this community here. Good luck!
If you can, sit in the shower. Drape a hand towel or washcloth over your leg, the leg on the same side as your arm. Have the washcloth soapy. Lean down and rub your outer arm over the washcloth. It’s not a perfect system, but It’s one way of getting the job done!
Thank u so much, I have a 4 month old daughter with a left hypoplastic arm, she has left arm till elbow.. Am preparing myself to be able to help n guide her
How do I wash my one arm that i can use? I can’t reach it with a loofah or stick sponge so far. I have had to get assistance to get that clean everytime
See 2:10-2:36 in the video. I have a nail brush that sticks to the wall with suction cups. You can rub your arm against that. If it is too rough, drape a wash cloth over it. Good luck!
It could be any bar soap. It is covered with felted wool. You can find it at boutique bath and beauty, shops, or sometimes yarn, shops, or craft shops. Or buy some felt and enlist help and make your own!
How would you go about putting on a shower cap. I have chin length hair Wavy hair and sometimes I want to take a bath or just need to rinse off and I would like to use a shower cap but it's so hard to get on
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm going to try holding a toothbrush in my mouth and hooking the cap on the brushed (turned upside down) in lieu of holding it with one hand, and then using my useable hand to pull it on in the back
here is a video that shows how I put on a stocking cap. I think it would be similar. start at about 4:13. Good luck! ruclips.net/video/qU6wZGa3Opk/видео.html

I use stick deodorant. I adjust it so that the deodorant stick is as long as possible. Then i can reach my underarm by holding the deodorant in my hand, and bending my elbow as much as i can to reach my underarm. Does anyone have a different method? Thanks for the question, Marlene!

This is so helpful, thank you. Do you have tips on washing the outside of the arm?
