Just found this channel. What a gem. I could never get a good sound from my EMGs out of the Katana and gave up. Wish I still had mu EC-1000 so I could learn to use the EQs which was likely the missing link. Thank you Lambchopper!!!
Thanks for all you efforts on the tones, videos and subsequent explanations. I've downloaded the AJFA tones for the MKII 50 Combo and I run it in stereo with my pedal board rig (which is more of a Pantera/Black Album tone). The blend is very tasty and I'm now addicted to palm muted chugging. My relationships with my neighbours have soured.
Awesome man! Was waiting for this one, pedals and through a actual cab. Probably said it before but this is the best and most educational guitar channel on RUclips. Thank you!
Lamb posts, I watch. I am a simple man. Also the glorious double ‘birb’ perch! There is just something great about the birds being in the video hanging out. I have not looked through all your videos, but we might need a bird FAQ one day if there isn’t one. Also Guptech appears to make a similar PEQ pedal to the EQFH called the pPTSD. Seems to have the exact same range of settings. A bit cheaper than the master effects pedal for those lookin for a cheaper alternative.
I’ve been playing around with your presets in my 50 mk2 combo, and adjusted to taste by ear out of pure habit. It’s crazy how much quicker I got to good 80’s Metallica tones than I do with my Boogie Mk3, Marshall VM, Kustom Coupe (5150 circuit) etc. The boss app is super powerful and useable. It’s a lot easier to compensate for lack of volume once I figured out how to eq fizzy frequencies out.
@@estwrios3983 It’s a completely different beast. My valve amps do epic things, but the Boogie especially requires a TON of dialling in. That thing is touchy. It’s also a green stripe so it’s not the highest gain mk amp. The Katana is way more versatile, but there’s always a hint of solid state sound. What the katana is really good at is quickly throwing effects in and out to dial in, without having to change pedals all the time. It’s a seriously good piece of kit for the money. It’s also easy to analyse eq curves on isolated guitar tracks and use the graphic eq in tone central to approximate the curve and then choose amp style, effects etc after. It’s loads of fun.
EVILE is criminally underrated and I was devastated when Drake left and then came back but only to replace his brother ☹️. Thankful we at least got those few core albums with the full group.
They really should have at least a couple hundred thousand monthly listeners, they are / were seriously good. Just checked and their at 125k, maybe boosted from the flow-over from Stranger Things
@@evananderson4299 I have spare 2x12 but if you're just using it as a practice amp you don't need a cab. It has a built in speaker that actually sounds pretty good.
Awesome video mate and my katana just arrived today too. Do you tune to standard 440Hz? I tune to 432Hz and can't wait to give these settings a go and experiment with it
Hey Mate, I know you focus on mostly metal but do you think you would be interested in building som Richie Kotzen type tones on the MK11? I've been diving pretty deep into the Kotzen stuff lately and he has such a great tone. Mostly a basic simple straight ahead overdrive, delay, Phaser, and Tremelo effects stuff . Of course Tele and Strat and his Tube driven Victory driving it but I bet we can build some great Kotzen with the BOSS. If you're, interested. From "Doing What The Devil Says To Do" Beautiful cleans to Stuff like 'I'm No Angel' its such a great rock tone, I'd love to see what you could build with it.
Awesome stuff as always, at this point I am seriously considering to buy the 100w head and pair it with some cab, most likely engl 4x12 with V30s, although if someone has other recommendations, please share Your opinions.
Well if it’s the sound of Pantera and AJFA you’re after then it’s EQFH. If it’s a more subtle cleaner sound like MOP then PMEQ. I don’t have a favorite and they both sound completely different
Hey LambChopper, in your experience you can use a Overdrive to tighten the sound on tone studio the same way you would use a real one? I use a real MXR classic overdrive only with level and tighten things much more than an OD in tone studio
The captor connects to the speaker output of the katana. If you want to run a speaker as well it piggybacks off the captor. It has nothing to do with the direct out
@@LambChopper678 ah yes makes sense. All this is new to me lol. I have the katana 50 combo but I hate the cab sim on it. Was thinking about upgrading to the head and either getting a captor x or maybe just the mooer cab sim pedal.
how loud do you crank your amps to capture with the sm57? I want to mic my cab so bad but im in an apartment and dont think i can get a worthwhile sound without cranking
The iso box makes it possible but even then the resonance frequencies would annoy people. There’s proper isolation contained speakers that are almost dead quiet that you might be interested in
In the cupboard, I’ve got many pickups I constantly swap out out and change. Saves me having too many guitars. I was thinking about putting them back in
I downloaded your rust in peace and MOP tunes on my boss katana but they sound a bit foggy. Not as clean souinding as it sounds when I'm not using the tone studio. Why is that? :p
Lambchopper you are the absolute best. I hope you know we all appreciate these videos so much

how does your katana compare to your other amps? is it that much worse? you know being a budget solid state amp

That bird! Nice playing!
Just downloaded the Amplitube presets. Some great tones in there. Many thanks.
I upgraded from an MK1 to this head just because of your videos.
Nice. How are you liking it so far?

Another killer vid. I’ve added your name, on my blacklist!

If gary holt starts using boss katana you're gonna know he's been watching your videos 😂
You're right about the open back. With the 50w combo It's really woofy and the clarity just isn't there.

good stuff mate. inching closer to getting a katana mk2 50 each and every day (that my wifes not here)

hey lamb, could you do a video on how to make your amp chug?? i would really appreciate it

Is that Charvel you’re playing a shorter scale neck?
No, 25.5
Why don't you use a looper to dial in the chug, the open string chug doesn't sound as good to dial in.
What do you mean? A looper pedal? How would that help

How do you connect the captor x to the katana? Is it possible to turn off the katana cab sim?

Can we get some Metallica tones just by using the Panel and not Tone studio?
No
Does the MXR eq introduce noise when you move the parameters? I've seen some eq pedals like the Boss GE7 do that.
Not really, if you push the mid sliders all the way to the top it gets a little bit the tone is out of the park anyways so the usable range is perfect
