Brilliant interpretation. He lets the melody (normally for flute) clearly stand out while the accompanying harmonies are duly muffled. Not an easy thing to do, certainly for the right hand.
Was wondering if he chose to play single notes at times instead of the chords to bring out the melody. I do this myself and it sounds much better. Kempff did a great job with this transcription, but some of it is a little overly complex to the extent of muffling the voice of this melody. Kissin interpreted this beautifully!
@@jcwng9955 OK. I'm torn between learning William Kempff's transcription of this piece (as played by Evgeny) or Theodore Lack's transcription (as played by Valentina Lisitsa). Valentina plays this without the repeat sign so the video is only half as long.
@@jose4877 I think it is a very personal choice. I love this version Kempff keeps it very melodious with the legato throughout. To me, Kissin executed the piece superbly and left me yearning to hear it again and again. I haven't seen Lack's transcription but I watched the video of Valentina playing this composition. She is a great pianist but somehow her version was not as satisfactory. I can't put my fingers whether it was because of the tempo (faster than Kissin), the shorter transcription and/or her technique. Her fortissimo sounded harsh to my ears. Choosing between the two is really a personal preference.
@@jcwng9955 You made me pay closer attention to Lack's/Valentina's rendition of it, and you are right. Even though she plays it well, there are elements that are missing, such as the hauntingly beautiful introduction in Kempff's transcription. In Lack's rendition, the piece jumps right into the melody without delay. That was one striking difference that I think, is important. I think I'll go with Kempff's transcription. Thanks for your input. By the way, if interested or just merely out of curiosity, the sheet music for Lack's transcription is posted under Valentina's video, in the description. Nice talking to you! Take care!

This piece reminds me of a baby still in its' mother's womb as it develops during the embryonic phases. I drifted off with each finger of the pianist's hand. No wonder the birthing process can be such a shock to the baby, as it 'awakens' to such a cold contrast. Love to each parent (s) who provides such a beautiful "introduction" to life.
Yeah, he said that he struggles with Bach. Its not because he can"t play Bach obviously, it's because he adds so much dynamics to his playing and he refuses to just mindlessly belt out a Bach piece. He's one of my favourite pianist's. Have you heard Grigory Sokolov play Bach's French Overture - live video 2011. If not, you must. It's on youtube.
@@shannonparatene1957 "He said that he struggles with Bach" That is a very wise approach. It speaks for Kissin, I think. I hope he will keep struggling, and eventually, find a way of dealing with it. Perhaps at older age. Then we will have something to listen at, I think. One of the greatest pianists alive. Dont rush Bach, good, very good! All in due time.

This piece. What can be said? The most beautiful piece written by Bach? To me, yes. I can never hear it enough.
Have you heard "Kommt, ihr Töchter, helft mir klagen" from the Matthäus-Passion?
Do you know where to find the sheet music
@@elenitapianohoy3114 You can find it on the web; I have downloaded the version for flute and harpsichord.

You ever heard organ sonata 4 II. Adante?
Brilliant interpretation. He lets the melody (normally for flute) clearly stand out while the accompanying harmonies are duly muffled. Not an easy thing to do, certainly for the right hand.
Yes. His right hand voicing is superhuman. Incredible control.
Yep, the voicing is so great, which I struggle greatly.
Well said. I fully agree. Beautiful phrasing. One of the best I have heard.
You have to Listen when Kempff himself played. I, 32, have to cry everytime.

my heart stops beating every time i listen to this celeste piece, by Kissin
Fantastic phrasing and style. So refined and well-thought out. Truly a great mind to go with great fingers.
Glad someone appreciates Evgeny as much as me.

Very beautiful melody awesome to listen to and perfectly played.
