- Every new skier has to understand the ski slope colors before they venture beyond the baby slopes. Not checking if you’re descending on a beginner, intermediate or expert run, could leave you in a pickle - or worse - mortal danger.
Informative video. You could have mentioned that in large parts of europe (ie Germany and Austria) green runs do not exist. Blue is a wider spectrum there from nursery slopes to slightly steeper exposed runs.
I must say that this video is wrong on the black runs in europe: in europe 95% of black runs are groomwd and don't have any jumps or things like that but they are stepeer than the american ones (from my research american black diamond and double black diamonds are less than 60-65%, in europe they can reach much higher touching the high 70%( 75%-78%)
some resorts in EU have orange circle/diamond... i would say its the equivalent for double black diamonds in US
Important: If you are an Amerikan, and you go skiing in Switzerland, be aware that:
Blue is the easiest (Is still as hard as your blue)
Red is advanced (that would be your black diamond)
Black is Pro (mostly groomed)
Yellow is off-slope (Your double black diamond)
But nobody will stop you from skiing down a mountain wich isn't in the resort (Solangs nöd dur de Garte vor Elsbet isch!)
I live in europe and the first time i went skiing i watched the american guides to ski runs dificulty so i didn t know that there was no green runs in resorts here and thought that i couldnt use a map or something
Really helpful, thanks.
You're welcome!
