Dolly called Whitney and thanked and complimented her personally ....Dolly is CLASS PERSONIFIED !!!!
The measure of class is how comfortable you make people around you. Dolly treats everyone like they matter and that is class personified.

Truly! ❤
I LOVE that dolly wasn't jealous that Whitney did it so well and made it so successful and supported her fully
Scott D it really did and it made her more rich , I just wish people would understand the music business
Color Purple Lover me too , I remember dolly saying something along the lines of "I loved that it was so successful because I got so goddamn rich"
I remember Dolly Pardon saying that when she wrote that song she took the money to the bank but when Whitney sang it, she bought the bank.. Whitney made that song untouchable by any other artist..Whitney took it to a level that can't ever be beat..
so funny! so true though. But, Whitney's golden vocal chords even made the National Anthem a million seller. So yeap she was the greatest.
Color Purple Lover Yeah but she still could have been jealous or not like Whitney’s cover...
It made her 50 million dollars. And Dolly's a business woman. Good for her! She wrote I will always love you and Jolene the same evening. Can you imagine that?
Dolly is a pure genius. I mean, two songs done in one day, and one of them became the bestselling song from a woman. Speechless.
True that, but also Dolly hit number one with the same song twice in the 70's.
That shit made her over $50 million because her record is still doing Numbers till this day till this fucking day I will always love you by Dolly Parton and Whitney Version is still doing Numbers she’s getting a check every day there’s not a second that doesn’t go by where this record is not even played on somebody’s stereo
@@ChicagoKnightEra so - very smart woman. It made Whintey famous. It made her rich.
@@normadesmond6017 Whitney was already famous and a huge icon when the Bodyguard and that song came out.
Dolly is a class act. The fact that she has nothing but love for Whitney singing her song and making it even more popular is the sweetest
Even if she wanted to say something bad, there's nothing bad she could muster about that cover
I love that Dolly didn't feel like Whitney had stolen her song or anything like that and just appreciated art and valued Whitney's work on the song
Dolly also made a lot of millions off Whitney singing that song.
@@poodlegirl55 Whitney made money too. It was beautiful and business at the same time. I have a poodle too!
@@beebleezy627 yea but Dolly made more cause she owned the copyrights & the writing😅
@@corysanon7084Ok, but the fact still remains: both women got their coins. End of story.
She’s always been gracious when it comes to Whitney and has said publicly that Whitney made her a lot of money
Money is their God
I honestly would have loved to hear those do a duet of that song
jay charleston would've been nice
Randy Rose it would, along with Carrie Underwood too, would have been beautiful. Three powerhouses, wonderful ladies
It wouldn't have fit. Dolly would have been unheard. The most beautiful part of Whitney version is that range and the vocal finesse which would have made Dolly sound like a drag
Dolly can't sing
Sadly that can't happen 😔 Whitney Houston 1963-2012
I don't care what anyone says -- both versions are great. I've said it elsewhere, but I don't know what Dolly does best -- singing, song writing, or being the coolest person ever from the Smoky Mountains. The only thing I will say about Whitney is -- I wished she would have stayed around longer.
Both are beautiful
Amen❤❤❤
It humbles you and makes you proud when another musician/artist takes your original creation and utilizes it to it fullest potential..dolly exemplify s that.
Dolly Parton is so sweet look how she loved that Whitney did her song over without being jealous 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Dolly is a very nice person. Whitney was too. Respect them while they are alive, and continue to honor the true greats after they die. love and miss our whitney 4ever.
Love Miss. Parton! She is so gracious!
Dolly always says “Whitney can have the credit, I’ll take the cash.” 😂😂😂
Exactly
I KNOW THAT’S RIGHT!!!!! 💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵💵
😅😅😅❤❤❤❤Love Dolly!!! Saludos desde Argentina.....
FACTS! As long as they send the checks to the right address, we good😂😂😂😂
@@brentduanefoster❤❤❤
Dolly is what you call an honorable beautiful upstanding woman she had nothing to be jealous about she have made hundreds of beautiful songs that nobody can duplicate only a woman have her magnitude could give another woman her props for singing her song and not be jealous that's why we love Dolly so much.
Dolly sang the original but Whitney made it iconic. Even Dolly herself said hearing Whitney sing it was one of the proudest moments of her life and she thought it was beautiful.
Only Whitney could create such a masterpiece from that simple love song. Dolly as the songwriter made a fortune.
Real humility here
I love how dolly is so humble an says that Whitney did more with the song then she could
God I could just listen to dolly speaking for hours ❤️there's no one else like her
I am not a big fan of country music but I do like some country music music and artists. Miss Dolly Parton I Will always Love you.
you are country and you are classy and you put a smile on my face.
Her, Reba & Trisha are my holy trinity of female country music artists 🥹
Its crazy to think they have similar stories for when they heard this song of each other singing it. Thats magic in music and two amazing iconic artists who heard each other. What a language.
"That little song of mine". Dolly is always so genuine and kind.
To be honest, if I made a song and some megastar made a cover of it, I'd be thrilled, they wouldn't have to ask (although it would be very much appreciated if they did). I'd be absolutely honoured and happy if they made it, especially if it was a good cover like Whitney's is.
She is so humble
I absolutely love Dolly! As genuine as genuine gets! She is still collecting royalties on this gem!
Dolly loved her very much. She is a lovely person. You can tell. 😁
I will always love Dolly's version best. It's very sentimental coming from her heart. Very precious and beautiful. Dolly is my all time favorite anyways, but I do enjoy Whitney's music. God rest her soul, she is dearly missed.
Zinnie Boy i could never get into Dolly’s version. It just seems so fake to me, too simple. If you really love somebody It should have some passion? That’s why i always likes Whitney’s better. But both are great. You’re right
Kyle summers well Dolly's was to country dinner Porter Wagner who she stared on his door for years and wanted to leave so it was a don't saying I'll already love you as a friend but I have to go. Unlike Whitney using it as a love song
watch how she sang it to Burt Reynolds in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. ruclips.net/video/iZ_dn3swCVU/видео.html
My favorite in particular is Dolly's 1982 version. It always makes me tear up.
Ever since I watched the Dolly episode of Drunk History, I've been in love with her version of her song. Just her in general, based on what she did for Wagner
WHITNEY absolutely did that song justice!!!!
I love that dolly didn’t get mad 😭❤️❤️
THANK YOU DOLLY FOR MAKING
A BEAUTIFUL SONG FOR WHITNEY HOUSTON, THANK YOU SO MUCH.❤❤ BECAUSE EVERY TIME WHITNEY SONG THAT BEAUTIFUL SONG , YOU DOLLY BENEFITTED FROM THE SONG AS WELL , BECAUSE YOURE THE ORIGINAL SONG WRITER , SO THANK YOU FOR LETTING WHITNEY HOUSTON SING A BEAUTIFULLY SONG.
I have lots of respect for Dolly gracious enough to allow Whitney take her song its fullest potential
Dolly is pure class! ❤️
Linda Ronstadt first covered this song and her version is the one that Kevin Costner played for Whitney which she loved and decided to do.
Wrong, Kevin played Dolly's recording. Whitney didn't like the song, and didn't want to do it. David Foster went into Long Beach to get a copy of the record. They only had the album Prisoner In Disguise, when David heard Linda's recording he said that he knew immediately what they could do. When Dolly found out that they were using Linda's version as the template for theirs, she called David on the phone to give him the final verse (she said it was important to the song). David had to add another 45 seconds to include the final verse. The arrangement is basically the same as Ronstadt's the just played with the melody line. It's funny how many different tales about the song are on youtube or in print. Robin Crawford confirmed that it was the music producer and not the films producer that brought Linda's version to Whitney.
Dolly Partin is a great singer, but she's also an incredible
song writer. So I can see how she can appreciate Whitney Houston's version as an artist and the creator. It had to be a nice and shocking surprise to hear a song you created on the radio for the first time, just like other artists. It's just sang by a different artist and a bit different. That has to be an incredible experience, especially if it's unexpected.
Awww she’s so humble. Good on you dolly
This song is why I always love Dolly Parton. She is not a hater.
She has the best personality on earth.
Andy is a big fan of the great Dolly Parton being with her she makes everyone feel at home
Love her
Dolly been a real one 🥰
Dolly Parton has such a big heart
dolly....you can still release a duet of you and whitney. just call clive and get it done. love you and whitney.
They are all the best of the bests
Dolly has herself so together and poor Whitney so did not. I'm grateful that Dolly's characteristic grace and kindness was reflected in how she spoke to Whitney.
Watching this video, then all of a sudden *"I Will Always Love You"* starts playing on my iPod... 😱
P.S. I have over 2000 songs and I set it to shuffle
Chills!
That's Whitney saying hi!
Sum it up... Whitney did it for a "concert" feeling. Dolly did it for a "night by a campfire" feeling. Both great depending on the mood.
What I find amazing is that I get the same goosebumps and feeling from both versions even though both singers have very different approaches.
What a lovely person she is.
OOOOH THAT SONG OF MINE.
Beautiful
Dolly’s a wonderful person
Dolly you are a genius, i love yalls versions the same, definitely feelins same pain
Sweet Dolly as always!💐😍👩❤️👨🙏
Love Dolly❤❤❤ Saludos desde Atñrgentina...
Dolly is a gem.
Dolly looking like a lil doll
Love you Dolly ❤
Great story
She'll always be the cutest damn thing on this earth. God bless Dolly Parton :)
Dolly you are the lady!
That dolly is a real class act......great woman
She was like "Damnit Whitney!" when she first heard that song. I can't believe you did it better than me.
NO ONE can sing it better than Dolly.
the lies you tell bitch!
It's dollys song but nobody did it better then Whitney.
IMO Linda Ronstadt had the best version!
BTW Whitney & Dolly never met or knew each other!
Don Hawkins INCORRECT
I love Dolly.
Dolly you are the pioneer
National Treasure!
Dolly Parton is the songwriter so it's great. She will still have her share of royalties for Whitney's version....
If I ever find out dolly was mean to anyone, my heart will be permanently broken 😊
I'm glad they met a few times.
She couldn’t have done any better than having THE Voice interpret her song. And of course a new generation only knew Whitney’s version as THE version because that’s what she does, but Dolly was laughing all the way to the bank. 😊
Dolly is so sweet.
wow, she was so humble
That's a nice story :)
Story goes that Elvis wanted to sing that song, but wanted the rights. Dolly said no-can-do even though she would have loved for him to have sung it. She had the good business sense to hang on to all her writing and publishing rights. People underestimate what a smart business woman she is!
I hope the full interview will be posted here, I don't have Sirius radio :(
A treasure! Our national treasure.
When you say: I will always love you. It's Whitney Houston❤👑
Eronit Ramadani depends on when you grew up. Older folks associated it with Dolly. Whitney exposed a younger generation to it, and her rendition was more accessible because it had the pop ballad treatment. They both sang it beautifully in their own ways with their own strengths, but you can’t really compare one as being better or worse than the other. They are just too different.
@@l.denison9353 whatever but tbh it's Whitney's ever since she touched it
❤️❤️🔥
Whitney Houston will always be the greatest black female artist ever🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽Thank you Dolly you are Amazing as well
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
194th Commented 💙 : Now we know Dolly Parton was the original.
Dolly Pardon truly showed her bravery when she took a stand and said Black Lives Matter, despite most of the bigoted backlash from the country music community kudo's Dolly.
I wish that a lot of people would take from this too because I do agree with the fact that she wasn’t jealous about it she was proud. but a lot of people who write songs or a lot of people who have songs that other people did it over and do it way better then them they salty as hell your record is still doing Numbers celebrate because I know she’s still getting a check every day that record is being played every fucking day not a second goes by nobody ain’t playing at record Well I ain’t gonna call no names on who should learn from this A.k.a. Miss Muni Long
Dolly’s interview discusses her emotion the first time she he’s Whitney sing her song:
youtu.be/ 0:00 ?si=SyOOoF7SMMgBd90Q
Dolly is an artist, Whitney sang it better but it never be without Dolly she wroted an amazing song.
I don't mean this in a disrespectful way...
Dolly Parton reminds me of Estelle from Friends...
Dolly Pardon is awesome oh btw she had nothing to worry about she made about 10 million in royalties off that.
Excuse me she made 20 million
Whitney was extremely talented and a beautiful voice and makes sense . Beyonce does not
The south one is Great
Dolly is no dummy. She probably liked that version but she also knew it would be a smash and make her loads of money. Elvis wanted to record it but Colonel Parker wanted to take half ownership so she said no. Then Whitney’s version came along and made loads of money and half would’ve gone to Lisa Marie if she’d let Elvis record.
Dolly had a number one hit with it in the 70's. Actually twice.
Dolly your version is 100 times more emotional and meaningful!! Song writers are the real talent
Jack Walker that’s a lie.
Kyle summers how so?
Yeah dream all you want lol.
The song you are thinking of is Pras feat. Mya and ODB, called Ghetto Superstar ruclips.net/video/MnWogQTfSIY/видео.html
If only Paul Simon could've been proud when Art Garfunkel nailed his song, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" instead of being jealous of him.
Wow, what's the story behind it?
One might have labeled Dolly's background as white trash but she was class all the way...its the little things like giving credit when credit is due
Look at Andy trying to look country with the shirt jeans and boots. Sexy
And the rest is history. Dolly and Whitney will always be inseparable.
It *WAS* Dolly's song. But when Whitney took it, SHE MADE IT HER SONG.
Christian Crocetti that’s what good singers do. They take the songwriter’s song and communicate it convincingly.
Whitney Houston was a *AMAZING* singer. But I think Dolly sang I'll always Love you way better than Whitney because it feels that Whitney only sang the song to show off meanwhile Dolly put emotions in the song. Just my opinion though
she was beautiful when she was young she had them dimples a pretty smile naturally big breasts why she mess up her face & body with plastic surgery
She's 70 years old she would look different then when she was younger anyway. So why not get surgery if you want too?
Of course she loved it….She owns the rights so she made a fortune on the royalties!
It seems the internet deleted, Whitney made a comment on a interview, I sing it better then dolly, Ms Parton reply she can sing it better, but I get paid evertime she sings it. I SAW THE INTERVIEW
not sure that is true. dolly said other people would say that's whitney's song. and dolly would joke, she can have the credit long as i get the cash. not saying you are wrong, i just never heard it the way you stated it.
I hope she got royalties from that
