    Linda Ronstadt first covered this song and her version is the one that Kevin Costner played for Whitney which she loved and decided to do.

    • @marchjoy7391
      @marchjoy7391 3 года назад +1

      Wrong, Kevin played Dolly's recording. Whitney didn't like the song, and didn't want to do it. David Foster went into Long Beach to get a copy of the record. They only had the album Prisoner In Disguise, when David heard Linda's recording he said that he knew immediately what they could do. When Dolly found out that they were using Linda's version as the template for theirs, she called David on the phone to give him the final verse (she said it was important to the song). David had to add another 45 seconds to include the final verse. The arrangement is basically the same as Ronstadt's the just played with the melody line. It's funny how many different tales about the song are on youtube or in print. Robin Crawford confirmed that it was the music producer and not the films producer that brought Linda's version to Whitney.

    Dolly Partin is a great singer, but she's also an incredible
    song writer. So I can see how she can appreciate Whitney Houston's version as an artist and the creator. It had to be a nice and shocking surprise to hear a song you created on the radio for the first time, just like other artists. It's just sang by a different artist and a bit different. That has to be an incredible experience, especially if it's unexpected.

      Eronit Ramadani depends on when you grew up. Older folks associated it with Dolly. Whitney exposed a younger generation to it, and her rendition was more accessible because it had the pop ballad treatment. They both sang it beautifully in their own ways with their own strengths, but you can’t really compare one as being better or worse than the other. They are just too different.

    Dolly is no dummy. She probably liked that version but she also knew it would be a smash and make her loads of money. Elvis wanted to record it but Colonel Parker wanted to take half ownership so she said no. Then Whitney’s version came along and made loads of money and half would’ve gone to Lisa Marie if she’d let Elvis record.

      Dolly had a number one hit with it in the 70's. Actually twice.

    If only Paul Simon could've been proud when Art Garfunkel nailed his song, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" instead of being jealous of him.

    One might have labeled Dolly's background as white trash but she was class all the way...its the little things like giving credit when credit is due

    It *WAS* Dolly's song. But when Whitney took it, SHE MADE IT HER SONG.

      Christian Crocetti that’s what good singers do. They take the songwriter’s song and communicate it convincingly.

    Whitney Houston was a *AMAZING* singer. But I think Dolly sang I'll always Love you way better than Whitney because it feels that Whitney only sang the song to show off meanwhile Dolly put emotions in the song. Just my opinion though

      She's 70 years old she would look different then when she was younger anyway. So why not get surgery if you want too?
