Excellent real life video. Trying to get my drive to pull harder after two years. Runs great but struggles to pull thru higher grass. I need the belt part number if you have it> Thanks an keep the hands on repiars coming.
Great tutorial , the best I have viewed this weekend after my belt sized up after 9 years of service. Oil is changed every season along with air filter. Please suggest disconnecting the spark plug prior to working on the mower. Most of us know that but there is the newbie that we want to continue to be able to work on their mower safely.
I agree to Change the oil but it does say to “top it off”. I bet the last guy ran it with no oil. Thanks for the video, I have the same mower and this saved me!! You’re the man!!
Just a gimmick so just change it like the good ol days. I wouldn’t top off the oil in my car. I would change it when it hits those service intervals. Thanks for the view and comment, hopefully you subscribed to my channel 🤙🏻🦅🔧🇺🇸
Jason, My sister has pretty much the same exact Toro Recycler SmartStow mower(20339) except her mower has the front wheel drive instead of the rear wheel drive like the one shown in your video. Usually the only reason that the mower is stood up is for washing off the underside of the mower deck. When the oil was changed earlier this year, The oil was relatively clean with some entrapped dirt within the used engine oil. I purchased a second mower blade in which I change out when the blade is used about every two months depending upon use. When the mower was unboxed, I treated the mower deck with WD-40 in which worked very well. There’s very little grassy build up compared to untreated mower decks in which just as soon as the water is sprayed - The grass clippings easily wash away. The wheels need some lubricant periodically to keep from squeaking. Otherwise the Toro mowers are great machines.
I have one of those in inventory as well paid $100 running. I have it listed for $280 with some trouble selling it. This mower sold within 48 hours of posting it this past week. Is your other blade another atomic or you went with something different. Your sister is lucky to have you…mower will last her a lifetime bc of you! 🇺🇸🔧🤙🏻🦅
@@pattayperformance Yes, I purchased a second atomic blade at Tractor Supply Company for around $20.00 which was comparable to the blades that were listed on eBay. The atomic blades really deliver a very nice cut quality, So I am going to continue using them. Actually, I installed a Gator/Predator style blade on my Snapper Hi-Vac that we have discussed before in which I sharpened with a sharper edge than it was when it was brand new in which it now cuts much better than before. Jason, I didn’t change the bevel on the blade or anything extreme but opted to sharpen with a true sharp edge and I was quite pleased with the results. A few days ago, I replaced the discharge chute on my Snapper in which someone in past years had cut off part of the old discharge chute off for some reason. The Snapper really threw out the grass clippings which usually wound up getting all over the person who was using it as a result. The new chute made a lot of difference with the discharge being directed downwards. This chute is the same one used for all of the classic Snapper 21 inch mowers through the Snapper Commercial Mowers with basically the same mower deck shape. Maybe this bit of information may help you out some day regarding any Snappers that you may encounter.
Great vid, I just picked up a Smart Stow recently too, and some of the worst oil I’ve ever changed has come out of “never change, just add oil” mowers.
That’s why it’s gotta be necessary to keep engines around! We are going to see a lot of these with blown motors! We will be there to repower and profit off of them! 🤙🏻🇺🇸🔧🦅
those RWD toro's belt replacement can be a little tricky. First one I did was on a older one with a Tecumesh Engine with the Adaptor stuck to the shaft. so I had to take the engine off the deck to get the belt on if I remember correctly. looks like toro improved the accessibility on this one.
You know bc I’m a OCD idiot…if I see a blade adapter is stuck while doing repairs. I get my $20 puller from Home Depot out and pull it off the shaft, polish and reinstall with anti seize. The next person who works on it will thank me!
The repair description is great. There is a repaired model. Broken rear pivot arm nut hole. How can I fix it? No matter how much I search on the internet, I can't find the part. please. model 20340 (7.25/163cc)
I have such a negative demeanor about these motors! Being a little proactive on this goes a long way. Have a feeling later down the line I will get it back 😂
I was taught to always start bolts by hand. It appears you cross threaded one of the three bolts on the belt guard by starting the thread with your impact wrench.
at the 14:41 mark you can obviously see I started them by hand. It may seem that it was cross threaded but its not. Both yourself and I were taught right...thanks for watching!
If you’re still responding to this video- I was working on mine today , wish I had seen this video first. So I broke both of the belt guard bolts off. I didn’t think it would be a huge deal until you said they bolt the engine to the deck so now I may really be screwed. Also, my blade adapter is frozen on the shaft and I really can’t get my new belt on. Any ideas on these two issues? (This mower was a hand-me-down) Thanks!
You will need to extract or drill out the bolts. If you drill them out…need to tap new threads OR get longer bolts and put the washer at the end. If your pulley is frozen you will need a two jaw puller and longer for the pulley to grab
I changed the belt, but afterwards the rear wheels turn on their own, without pressing the progress bar, what should I do? Adjust transmission cable? If yes, how much? Thanks for your help .
AWSOME loosen up the tension and adjust as you see fit. I have mine on the lowest setting so I have complete complete control of mower for the best cut possible
My belt keeps coming off on the drive cable end of my 20332 rear wheel drive. I’ve tried two new different belts. The last one I tried was toro original. Any tips on how to fix this?
I have a 28 year old Lawnboy Gold series made by Toro where the entire belt is on the top of the deck . The belt and the 3 speed transmission have never failed in all that time and I cut a 1/4 acre once a week. Why can't they make them like that anymore? Planed obsolescence ? Except for cleaning and greasing the small drive gears so they will slip when going backwards and replacing the wheels when they wore out and split the drive train has been trouble free. What recently failed the blower housing from metal fatigue where it bolted to the engine from so many pull starts and I replaced the pull cord itself once.
That’s awesome! They don’t make ‘em like that anymore bc consumer wants the cheapest possible. Don’t care about quality unless it’s designer clothes that impresses no one.
It`s a nice tutorial! I have to face this job, but even 3 times more, because our TORO is all wheel drive... I`m just curious, how long is the transmission belts serviceable life? It seems to me, they work in a tough environment. They must be replaced as you`re topping up petrol :)
AWD should just have one belt and 2 transmissions! The belt is longer and stressed/stretched out more bc of that. I would make sure that everything is clean underneath as well on a frequent matter to try and optimize belt life. Is there a cable adjustment? I have never done a toro AWD mower but I have done a few HUSQVARNA’s. I have a video on that. Same but different… What is the model of your toro?
@@pattayperformance The model is 20353. It does have two separate belts (different size as per its parts list). I`m curious how it`s connected to the engine shaft... No any information in the internet. Probably a double pulley above the cutting blade...
I have the Toro self propelled rear wheel drive. It needs a belt change about every 2 years. Mine is harder to replace than what you just did. I hate it. Could they have made it any harder to replace? Looks like front wheel drive is much easier. I just replaced mine. All back together but it is 1am. I'm praying it is gonna work fine in the morning. 🙄🙏
I think something got wedhed in their and burnt it up. Blade didnt have signs of impact as well as the crank. Thanks for the view, comment and compliment!
I have this mower, and after a few years of using it with no problems it has started to die when I engage the drive. I’m not sure what is causing it, and I haven’t checked the belt yet, but have you ever run into this? Runs just fine otherwise, and if I push it without using the drive it stays running just fine, but as soon as I engage the drive, it dies.
One of the main problems for sure! Some trucks where all the wires are grey and you have to read em! 😂 When I was converting Mandingo from a Thermo Actuator to Electrical one…had to have Chris climb under and identify a brown wire for me 🦅🔧🇺🇸🤙🏻
Just enough to get a spark out of the plug. It doesn't need run only fart to cause damage to your fingers. So about 20 degrees, an very slow. Luckily, there is also the kill to the coil switch that is connected on the dead man handle bail. Since you do know the machine you just picked up the kill switch may not be working; I am sure you have run across that, as the switch does fail or gets out uf adjustment were the mower will not stop. Great video about the bailt.
Shouldn't need that much torque for anything on that mower. I was able to get the blade bolt off with an M12 fuel impact driver. I really want that M12 impact wrench for the car though.
Rather be safe than sorry. My M12 Fuel 1/4 Impact Wrench Struggles after I put on the Adapter and correct size impact socket. After a few Uggah Duggahs it will start to move. I don’t got time for that 🤣
