    im convinced you have some of the best skateparks over there. i'm in oregon, so everything is bowl big transition heavy with token generic street stuff. looks like designers over there are more concerned with making interesting obstacles set in a respectable layout

      I agree man, we’re actually so spoilt for parks here in Sydney!

    • @ramrunsfast
      @ramrunsfast 4 месяца назад +8

      That's because Grindline built many of those skateparks as well as a few other companies. I think there vision was leaving street skating to the streets although I don't agree 109% with that approach. Grindline designed and built the first concrete park in my region of California almost 20 years ago and one of the owners of Grindline was such a rad guy, even letting me test out some of the park before they opened. Skateparks have come a long way dude.

      @@ramrunsfast for me it was mostly Dreamland parks, with West Linn and Beaverton 2 being the only parks built by Grindline. they're all fun and built extremely well, with best finishes. i dont go to parks much anymore, but the ones i would avoid heavily are the big bowled pits. they're fun, they are limiting if you don't like anything over 4'-5' tall. we had a spot in SE Portland called Brooklyn Street. that was fun, built well, and creative use of area. stuff like that is what hypes me up, and looks like Leon has a lot of that variety in his neck of the woods. here's Brooklyn Spot...ruclips.net/video/FhqdJs20txU/видео.html

      @themav3ricm3thodd91 4 месяца назад +1

      @ramrunsfast If that was the goal then I'm cool with that. I think street skating helps you develop a more unique and natural style, and it helps with adaptability. I'm glad I didn't start at parks and that is probably due to the lack of street style parks in Oregon.

    I've only recently started skating, but have quickly become obsessed with it. Your videos are the reason I have two Heroin symmetrical egg boards (8.75 and 9.125). The egg shape, width, short wheelbase, and symmetry is such an amazing combination. I've been mostly riding my 9.125. Its so good around the park due to the room on the board and width of the trucks (8.75 Indy Forged Titanium for me). Yet, I don't actually find it more taxing to flick around. I might be 100% symmetrical egg boards (especially Heroin) from here on out. Go big and lighten up your set up with smaller wheels and lighter trucks!

    I recently got into Creature/Santa Cruz stumps boards. I love the 8.8 and 9" boards with the 14.25 WB.
    However when I setup a usual 8.5 i had laying around to practice flatground I noticed how much easier every flip trick was after skating an 8.8 and 9" for several months. I think I'm gonna keep the stumps boards with ace 66's for a cruiser board that I can still have fun with skating street but keep a regular 8.5 setup for flat ground and park skating.
    The stumps boards are super skateable... I love the surface area to land on. But they're definitely marginally harder to flick; the added width does add a little bit of weight that takes a minute to adjust to. I love that for the street though, since it's not THAT much more difficult to deal with than shitty ground and cracks and the benefit of stability absolutely makes up for it. I've never had more confidence with 180s or shuvs in my life. While flip tricks are still 100% on the table cause they're not THAT much harder to do.
    When I'm at the park or skating flatground with my coworker after work, the 8.5" still reigns supreme for ease of flip tricks though lol.
    A 10.75" board seems like a novelty though knowing how marginally harder it is to flick a 9". Really fun for grinds/slides/transition I'd imagine though.

    In fact those egg boards from Heroin are just the football shapes we used to skate in the very early 90s... Most of the "modern" tricks were invented on those shapes pre popsicles... They're cool and functional... I currently ride a mid 9.25 and mega mutant 10.4 from Heroin and I'm quite small and wear 7.5 shoe size 😅😂...

      Well the 9.25 is my go to board and for all the reasons you explained like short wb and a thinner waist it's really easy to manage... I'm 50 y.o. now so must admit I'm not into full tech tricks. Obviously the 10.4 is another story 😅 but it's just perfect for cruising and goofing around.

    i actually ride an 8. Because my old board a full 5 years ago was almost a 9, I thought I'd need a larger board because of this when I got back into learning this year, but turns out? I’m tiny compared to you and would love to have a go without having to commit to buying a whole set up. If only there was a shop that had set ups that you could try before you buy. My only concern is that I have a very tall rider (6 foot 4 inches) and am currently on a board that is 33 inches long with a 15 inch wheelbase, which feels great for my size, especially for doing ollies up and down things. I’m wondering if the shorter length and wheelbase on the swampys wideboy would be too hard for me to get used to, or if the extra width would make up for it? I really appreciate any input you could give🙏

      The width on this thing definitely balances it out man, the shorter length and wheelbase is what makes it more skateable and I came from the Antihero Huffer which has a 14.75” wheelbase and this didn’t feel short at all since it’s so wide. So something this wide definitely evens itself out with the dimensions being smaller.
