We don't hate it, it's just that it's very difficult to manage... Yesterday I nearly cried when I was undoing my braids, detangling and washing the hair, blow drying, and redoing the braids, I was doing everything by myself... It took me hours.

How often do you do your hair…? You might seriously find it easier if you do your hair every 1-2 weeks instead of longer term protective/convenience styles. People shed 50-100 hairs every day on average, if your example you wait a month to detangle and wash because of braids, you’ll end up having to brush out 1500 - 3000 hairs that can all knot further on the way down your healthy coils. Waiting only half a month gives you half the work. It does end up being less effort because it takes so much less time, so you might not feel so resentful or sad when you have to do your hair. Try shorter term styles. Or ones with less steps to install. Maybe cornrows with leave out? So you can put it into single or double puffs, or braid the leave out and add a hair piece.
The issue really is not your hair. It’s the styling and routine. Hair becomes very easy to manage when your priority is keeping it cleaned and detangled. Everything else is personal style and cosmetics.
I’m speaking as someone who used to struggle the same way who doesn’t have these issues anymore. I’m not just preaching at you as someone who ‘has it better’ with a looser texture or something lol

@prettyrat. It was box braids and they were over a month.

@@mphosa995 yeah… that would do it. i used to switch between box braids and crotchet braids mainly and they’d always be in for a month or more. 4-6 weeks. try other styles you can keep in for a shorter time. maybe jumbo braids? or the cornrow styles i mentioned earlier. if you try and detangle + wash weekly or biweekly, it will be easier.
how do you detangle? conditioner? water, oil? wide tooth comb or detangling brush?

@@prettyrat.you were so sweet and detailed, I agree with all of your tips. Stretched hair is a big help too (blown out/fluffy press). We litterally have to unlearn all we think we know about our hair care and use consistent routines😊

@prettyrat. When detangling, I make use of water and detangling spray... The comb that I use is just average, I wouldn't say it's wide.
I then wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner... Then I'd apply some rice water, leave in conditioner while the hair is still wet... Blow dry and start redoing the braids... I'd then apply the oils afterwards when I'm done.

From my quick research Turkish women used to wear braids similar to box braids, so just do it. My half blk half w1t cousin who look fully wh1te only get cristized by wh1te people. If someone says something, just say your culture wore those braids too and that you think blck braids are beautiful.

Also in europe, it's normal to see non blk with box braids but it's seen as trashy by wh1te people. Blk people will give compliment or not care so it's depends if you are in America or Europe.
