The Victor hadn't sold in big enough numbers to take on the Cortina as it was a bigger car, so the Cavalier was launched to take on the Cortina. Quite a decent cat and once UK assembly started in 1977 and an entry level model with a Viva engine was launched sales really took off. I always liked the Sportshatch and the 2000 GLS with the colour coded interior.
In the mid 80s I owned a light blue 1600L automatic from 1978 which was a beautiful looking car and a lovely drive when it ran well. Unfortunately it was also a pig that had a starting problem nobody could fix so it had to go. ALY 896S.
