It amazes me how vastly underrated and underappreciated this movie was/is.
It's an iconic sci-fi horror masterpiece.
Although I am glad it finally got a 4K Steel book.
I really want to understand people. So many good reviews. I can't understand why. After a good beginning, it sunk into a completely stupid, boring pile of crap. What a waste of acting talent. I guess to each their own.
Its the nerd (fear of being considered one) factor involved, maybe :/
4K release the case makes no difference to the movie
@@tshelby5212It does improve the viewing experience.
TVs are quite large nowadays and people are used to extremely high resolution content. That alone makes many viewers shy away from older movies.
It is why Disney remastered a lot of their animated classics, for example.
Definitely better than Sunshine
I saw this movie when I was 10. And still to this day, it truly chills me to the core.
Im not even trying to be over the top. No horror has ever frightened me like this movie has.
It effects us because we know deep down inside this place is real.
@@maxisoulcaliber8941 yeah i think so. And i think based on how scientific it is and plausible and, not to mention they are stuck in outta space where nobody can help them, it adds to the massive sense of hoplessness.
But yeah deep down we know hell is real or we have a deep fear because we arent sure...but yeah a movie that frightens me beyond garbage like the conjuring or any other modern day horror.
I have the same experience, but with Alien.
@legatobluesummers3211 yeah that is one disturbing movie too...i can see why haha
This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid
Me too; now it's "okay". Makes me wonder if I've "just" grown up or became numb to violence with all that's been shown in movies since then. Either case, yaky. Awesome movie though and still has that ambiance.
same here 😂
Me Too!!!
same xD
I was an adult...and it scared me too!
This movie will give you the chills. The design of the interior of the Event Horizon is super creepy, and the atmosphere is creepy.
A true Sci Fi nightmare
But low gross box office
I thought it could be much better. The idea was very good, but it's not even close to give chills. Other movie that remembers me of this is the "House on Haunted Hill", 1999, wich has ghosts and other creepy stuffs, as if the house has life itself, like the Spaceship in Event Horizon. But Event Horizon don't even get close in tension, because of a lack of impact in scenes, it's so slow, unfortunately... The majority part of these scenes have been deleted. But sure, it's still a good movie.
This means the director did a *good job!* Mission accomplished!
If your gonna make a film about a time/space warp ship that has returned from hell, then this is exactly it. The cinematography, model work, special FX and casting, as a whole make this film unique,
@@kylemurray1268 yes iam 😁
Very underrated movie

Couldn't agree more. One of my favorites. It scared the doo-doo out of me.
My right ear is really looking forward to hearing this movie.
My left ear is curious about what happening to my right ear
Hahahaha my nose can’t wait watch the movie
lol! My mouth is confused about what's happening to my ear and nose.
I don’t get it…
This comment is priceless
Laurance fishburn gave such a great aspect of hopefulness in movie
This movie came out in 97 and could legit pass for a 2022 B movie trailer. That’s pretty impressive
man if this underated masterpiece of a movie reminds you of a "b movie" of any sort and age you must be either the r word or like 17 years old in 2022
@@kostas666lelapas3 my man!
Not to mention most modern movies plot lines today are weak af
Edit : weak af
@@kostas666lelapas3 Understand the context of what OP is saying.
With no knowledge of this movie at all, if this exact trailer was shown as an advertisement in 2022-2023, it would look exactly like a modern B-Movie. Hell with that trademarked 90s CGI you'd be forgiven for thinking this was actually just an independent studio with a padded budget.
“VERY impressive movie trailer Dr.”
I was 14 when this came out. Knew nothing about it, went to go see it opening weekend. And to date, this is still the only movie that had me leaving the theater physically shaking because of how many times it scared me
That’s pretty cool
@@davidec.4021I told a lady at work about it not long ago, she told me she couldn’t sleep after watching it lol. It just sucks because everyone I talk to about this movie has no idea that it exists
Yes, very frightening.
That sounds like a lie
@@tshelby5212What does?
I remember going to my local movie rental shop and asking for a recommendation to a good comedy. My parents were going to Vegas for the weekend and my siblings and I always watched funny movies when our parents went out of town.
The shop owner recommended this gem…. Mind you, the owner of the shop was my neighbor and I was only 12 at the time.
Well, this movie traumatized my siblings and I so deeply we just sat there until the credits finished and the movie ejected from the vhs player. We cried and couldn’t sleep until my parents came home…
I remember returning the movie with my dad and telling the guy “you lied”!!!
And I think that’s were my trust issues and trauma began… 😂
All jokes aside though, it’s one hell of a movie!!!!
Hellraiser but in space, basically. Loved it.
Nope
And there already is a hellraiser set in space you fool
"where we're going, you won't need eyes to see!"
“I created the Event Horizon to reach the stars, but she’s gone much farther than that.”

Wow why are you guys saying these words here? 😂😂 Still, your words are nice 😅

Event Horizon + The Thing = Dead Space. Thank you.
The beginning of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords definitely was inspired by this movie as well. The Peragus Mining Facility, though not as graphic, is incredibly creepy. You HAVE to watch all the video logs the miners left before they all disappeared.. 😨
i was literally in shock when i discovered it on Facebook group, and i immediately watched it. oj the same day
really worth it. A MASTERPIECE!!! I NEED A SERIES!!!!
So they could make a woke flustercuck out of it? No thanks, leave this classic alone.
Coming from Facebook group
This movie along with Alien (1979), Dawn Of The Dead (1978), The Fly (1986), Ju-On The Curse (2000) and The Shining DX version (1980) actually managed to scare me. It totally deserves it's rating rehabilitation/ re-evaluation someday soon.
What part of DOTD scared you?
Add Trilogy of Terror and The Exorcist to that list.
@@shannonwilson6216 Them people don't know nothing about trilogy of terror. For that you need to be a horror fan.
@@frontandcenter7941 that movie scared the hell out of me as a kid. I’m 49 and it still scares the hell out of me…and yes you’ve gotta be a true horror fan.
May I recommend:
-Evil Dead (2013)
-Hereditary
As a die-hard fan of the Alien franchise, no sci-fi horror movie can ever top this. an absolute masterpiece of a movie
You can definitely see where the video game Dead space got inspiration from. Can't believe I haven't seen this movie until now.
Good point.
Doom 3 reminds me a lot of this movie too.
My favorite--among them--pc games (ps4, xbox 360 too)
@@OhmVibedon’t see how it does doom 3 is set on mars
Event horizon is set on a spaceship in Neptunes orbit

This movie was well ahead of its time... You'd actually think it was made in the 2010s...
My favorite line:"....We're leaving"😂😂
Yes, papa bear!
“She won’t let you leave”
This happens when you travel through the warp with the Geller Fields off.
Then slaanesh gets all kinky
And headlight on
When Alan Grant & Morpheus are working together, boy that’s a combo!
He was IMO so much better in this movie than in Jurassic Park (IMO)
Sorry, I talk too much--bye y'all
One of my all time favourite movie when I was a kid. The movie kind of reminds me the beginning of Dead Space.
Oh without a doubt! There’s been interviews with Glenn schofield where he’s spoke about how event horizon inspired him for dead space which is pretty cool I’d say!
Oh without a doubt! There’s been interviews with Glenn schofield where he’s spoke about how event horizon inspired him for dead space which is pretty cool I’d say!
I love this movie its like hell raiser in space.
Hooo, always wondered about that movie, makes me want to see it more now.
I totally wasn't expecting that third act jump into Hellraiser territory. The trailer suggests a darker, scarier, haunted house version of Solaris. And, for the first two acts, that's what it was. But then Sam Neill comes walking out looking like Uncle Frank and suddenly you're wondering when Pinhead and the other cenobites are gonna show up. It was a weird shift.
I know the movie but just rewatched the trailer ! I kinda heard " we have such sights to show you" ??
@@SébastienETIEVANT RIGHT??!!!
A great fusion of horror and sci fi, a real gem, best seen on the big screen though.
I wouldnt mind seeing a prequel film to Event Horizon, i think theres a story u can tell about the original crew of The Event Horizon and what happened to them when the ship disappeared and went into the hell Dimension, if The Thing (1982) can get a Prequel film in 2011, then why can't Event Horizon do the same
Well there is still on going talk of doing a prequel showing what happened
I like the fact that we don't exactly know, adds to the mystery of the film
this movie i watched today first time....abnormaly good, totally underrated
Unbelievable that a sci-fi movie could produce such *horror!* And *in space* from all places! 😰
The most terrifying movie ever made.
You mean "terrifying sci-fi" movie!
Well, Alien is also a good one, but it's about a living organism. Event Horizon is *pure horror!* 😰
Remember seeing this on the big screen Summer 97. Great time and great film.
i love it when after watching a 2,5 min trailer i already know what happens in the entire movie
I had the privilege of watching this when it came out in the cinemas and I liked it instantly
It's the only film I watched at the cinema twice back in the day. It blew me away.
Love the movie. Very underrated.
My favorite horror movie. *THE True "HORROR" movie, not a "scary" movie*
Audio mastering on this trailer is from another Planet!
This movie was basically on the same level as the first few levels of Doom 3 on OG Xbox, except you weren't the main protagonists. Underrated
I wish someone like Alex Garland did a remake of Event Horizon with a better third act. Would be a sci-fi horror masterpiece.
i realize I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Kason River Flixportal
@Memphis River Thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I really appreciate it!

1997 yet the special effects are so good like it was just recently made. ❤
Simply one of the best movies ever made so good,, could you imagine it nightmares have nothing on this mind-blowing event...
The Black Hole (1979) has some nightmarish material in it.

I convinced my nephew that this movie was based on a true story. He was 9. He didn't sleep for 2 weeks! lol He nicked a fiver out of my wallet earlier that day to go grab candy without asking. He didn't think that I'd notice. I bet he won't steal again.
I’m about to watch this movie for the first time
Yep definitely one of the greatest of its small genre of sci-fi-horror that usually is only the Alien movies .
How the heck have I not watched this? Definitely on the must watch list now!
An absolute classic.
You must see it! - It's one of the best science fiction horrors of all time!
Here after Lewis said this was his favorite horror movie.
This is one of the Sci-Fi movies of all time.
This is perhaps the best sci-fi movie. It's amazing how little attention it has received. It usually does not appear in any list rankings at all.
The best sci-fi horror movie with religious elements. Hell in space, literally!
they crashed through into another dimension--though, I think Sam Neil's character was Too Easily Impressed! Sorry--he looked scarred nor scared!

This movie took inspiration from Alien, thus inspires to created a SciFi horror game Dead Space.
The Thing + Event Horizon = Dead Space

Warhammer 40k actually. Even the director itself stated that the warp consept in this film was inspired by WH40k
"I have such wonderful things to show you?" Yuuuup Hellraiser fan was that creator.
That's about the best trailer I've ever seen.
Watched it again last night after so long…. Got zero sleep last night, even with ALL of the lights on! 😱👻
I was so surprised that i got to know about this movie through insta. It's such a wonderful movie yet i didn't hear about it back in the days
The plot was way ahead of its time.
Completely understand what Schofield meant when he said this movie was a big inspiration for Dead Space.
ironically this movie got inspiration from Warhammer 40k and fans of 40k have declared that event horizon is a unofficial prequel .
It’s giving me Dead Space vibes……ima watch it.
It's great, but hell footage was cut out of the movie and missed! The whole meaning of the movie,it will show where the portal leaded the missing crew to,it was to hell! The director's cut,the most important part of the movie!😠😠
If you stuck alien, hellraiser, and the shining in a blender the result would be this movie
I’ve some how never seen this but it keeps coming up for some reason recently. I’m a big Sci Fi fan so I guess it’s time for me to watch it this weekend.
Went to the moves on my 11th birthday. This was the only one playing. Had nightmares for weeks after.

I'd pay money and sit in a theater and watch this. Good money.
Most terrifying move i ever saw as an elder millenial in hs-uni lol
Trailers really didn't do justice to the movie
"Event Horizon"(1997) is a good enough horror sci-fi movie!
so sad that the studio lost the director's cut deleted scenes...and a special edition of this masterpieces didn't happend 😢
There is no directors cut because of the deleted scenes being lost or destroyed
Also there is a special edition of this movie
I should know I own a copy of it
The first time I watched this movie, I was about 12, and I had a bad fever.
Fishbourne is the greatest Actor of all-time
Pour one out for the people that never saw this movie 😢
Basically what happens if you fly into the Warp without protection.
This movie is soo great!!! Scared me as a kid! Luv it!!!
I would go see this movie in theaters if the original director's cut is made.
That's why folks you must not forget your Geller Field

Today's 'trailer makers' should learn something from this.
Wel, if you will go jumping into the Warp without a Gellar Field.....
Now this they should remake+
film has a weak middle to end but the concept was brilliant
basically people just start behaving because the story needed them to do so, and the story was just rushed towards the end into this cat and mouse chase
This was a great movie!
Amazing movie...saw it without the Trailer. That said, this trailer did it justice, it didn't SPOIL anything like today's trailers do.....every one of them.
Lifeforce = vampires in space.
Event Horizon = hell in space.
After watching this trailer I’m convinced Sam niell Is the first one they kill off
Watch it for the first time 2 weeks ago.. Not that bad for a Paul WS Anderson movie x)

This is still the scariest movie I've seen, though Sinister, Ringu, and Babadook came close!
Babadook was hardly scary. And once the ending comes, it's laughable.
@@zanfear Greetings! Well, fine :). Believe it or not, I felt the same way about Silence of the Lambs. I didn't find it scary at all. I must have expected too much from the glowing reviews at the time. Red Dragon was more my cup of tea. 'Dream much, Will?'

Add the Cube to the list ;)
“Paramount Pictures presents. Laurence Fishburne. Sam Neill. And Kathleen Quinlan. “Event Horzion”.”

This movie is inspired by the Warhammer 40k lore, at least some small of it. It's brilliant. After watching this movie today I love it.
Also inspired death space
Yup, Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness inspirations are apparent in the depiction. I guess Event Horizon in turn also inspired the presentation of Doom 3.
It's not so much inspired as it was originally meant to *be* a 40k movie. Licensing issues forced a rewrite to change some stuff up, but you can still clearly see it.
