I called off work, drove over an hour, walked through the rain AND..found the 11th channel sticker. That was so much fun! Thanks for the adventure Cliff! I couldn't figure out how to attach a picture.
I agree with you about being alone. Henry David Thoreau is my favorite and this quote reminds me of you: “I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating.”
I've enjoyed your videos for nearly two years now! I live in northwestern Upper Peninsula of Michigan so I have learned much about Pennsylvania. I'm now 67 and have health issues so I can't make such hikes anymore and so live vicariously through your adventures!
You should soon come to NW PA. check out fort Leboeuf and its connection to fort Venango and down to fort Pitt. There was a movie made in to 50's about troops marching to each during the French and Indian war. Can't remember which but one of the later used "mannequin" solders to ward off Indians who had them greatly out numbered. Interesting PA history for sure.
Hi Cliff, what an interesting but tragic story, have you or would you ever go and visit his grave ???. Those rocks made for one cool lookout, it would be a great place to have lunch no matter what the season. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
Those pokey things holding you up off trail = multiflora rose. Which I learned to passionately hate in a previous occupation. Thanks for the great content, these videos give me ideas for spots to go when I need to escape the mundane. And the stories behind the locations just make them all the more alluring.
Cliff, throw on some headphones and listen from 29:38. Just seconds after you say, "But ah..." you'll clearly hear another voice. Maybe Mathias telling you where the trail goes? It kinda freaked me out. Its definitely not you.
Yup, that's a voice. I would think if it's Mathias, you'd hear him at the rock like where he died. If you believe in ghosts, anyway. Kinda cool though.
Interesting story. Its always nice to learn more local history. Side note, if you get some mountain tea,and grow it, try drying some out and then brew it. Its more flavorful.
Thank you for not going to the tippy top Cliff, this poor ole gal's heart.... What a gorgeous view you had on that ledge! Would make for another amazing lunch spot. You find the best. What a very sad ending for Mathias. I think someone else asked as well about if you planned to visit his gravesite? Thanks for sharing his story & another really interesting adventure!🥰
Very interesting story and cool rock pile. Dude, you're brave crawling around those rocks. I hold my breath every time you do something like that. Thanks for the education. Everyone can benefit from your videos.
yes, Cliff so sad as to what may have happened to this (sounds to be a good man), sad that they never found the culprits who may have harmed him, your theory sounds very possible, thank you for sharing, I do so very much enjoy your channel!
When I was a kid I got stuck in Devils Den. That was in the day when mothers said “you got in, get yourself out”. No 911 in those days (she wouldn’t have called if there was).
Wow that was totally awesome. What a fantastic story, poor man tho what a terrible end. What people will do for money. Those views were really gorgeous and of course so were the rocks. Would have been nice to see a snake, I love reptiles myself. Thanks so much for taking me along and please stay safe and take care
Another great story & sad what happen ! Look beautiful & even more amazing back in the 1860s ! Always bad people anywhere you go ! Really sad what happen !

The Pennsylvania Dutch recipe site on Facebook has pictures and ways to make “meadow tea”. It’s tea made from brewed mint leaves. Can be served hot or cold, with or without sugar and is green in color.

The story of Matthias reminds me of the song, "One Tin Soldier"-the treasure we have is the love and peace in our hearts-thank you, Cliff!
When he says 'nooks and crannies" it makes me hungry for Thomas's English Muffins with butter and jelly on them.
Very cool. In my 27 years in pa, never heard of this. It’s nice to learn new stuff!

I heard that too.😯
For sure!
I heard it too. It could have been other hikers off in the distance. But it would be cool if it was a ghost voice.
i heard the voice also, it was another mans voice

I'm a member of Hawk Mountain! Glad you made it there!
That crazy stack of rocks looks like something you would find out here in New Mexico. Very cool video,
Beautiful views, beautiful rock formations and great story...very sad. I can see why someone would want to live up there😊🤗💕
Loved the story even thou it had a tragic end. He sounds like a cool man. Beautiful rocks and views.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. Mathias would've never thought his story would be told to thousands 100+ years later.
Thank you for the story about the hermit and the trip to the woods.

Nice hike. Sad story, kind of reminds me of Stingbean & Estelle Akeman murders. Beautiful view from up there.
Cool views from the boulder field there. Darn shame about Mr. Berger, though. Good stuff, Cliff 👍
Cliff the " Cardio Kid " ! Getting your heart pumping , blood circulating & huffin & puffin with your lungs ! 😊👍

There is a tea that looks similar to wooly balsam tea but is poison, please be careful out there and anywhere you go. Great vlog. Stay safe.
Those sweet violets are lovely, they smell nice too - thanks for the video.

I do!!!cold.Tastes great with honey😉
We have mint tea that we transplanted from the farm where my husband works. I don't drink it, but he does. I also use it to make shampoo and soap.
I would love to do a hike with you. You know so much about some of my favorite places. Do you do guided tours?
Tea plants available at the Milk Shack in Womelsdorf.
love the hermit story
I seem to be the first one to comment on this video. Wooo Hooo!!!
I'm the first to comment on this comment. Yabba Dabba Doo!
Years ago there was a small observation tower above the rocks. Not there any longer.
Interesting story but tragic ending for Mathias though. Thanks for sharing!
Be careful of deer ticks. Early Spring and Fall can be the worst since they aren't full grown and are super tiny but still able to spread Lyme's.
Great video. Sad story about Matthias though.
Wow love your pro pic. And can i say u look handsome wow wow wow
Ineresting story.
Love it. Was wondering if you ever travel western pa.south of pittsburgh. Washington Greene county would be wonderful .

I don't think he as an actual grave marker.

Does he have a naked grave and in what catholic cemetery?
