    I was one of the kids at Thorpe Park! By sheer luck I stumbled on this for the first time in 34 years

    The segment on the Japanese people is kinda offensive by modern standards. The audience has hysterics at eating with chopsticks! (that's not that weird surely even by 1987 standards?) oh and they can't pronounce the word pub properly! I'd like to see if anyone in that audience speak Japanese anywhere near as well as those people speak English..no doubt a Japanese audience would find that really hilarious.

      We'd only just discovered garlic in 1987.

      I think you're too easily offended. They were eating British fish and chips with chop sticks. Unusual and mildly amusing by 1987 standards.

      I was thinking you wouldn’t see it now, a lead in about people going home seems far away now. Thing is, that says more things about the attitude today rather than what boundaries of decency are. Most people today would be ok with this article but the premise isn’t something we would probably see. That’s because many people moan before they’ve had a look….

    excellent show that used to be - what you call entertaining , what's replaced it now the present ITV/ITN London news is so lackluster in comparison and you have to ask whatever went wrong? . I grew up watching episodes of this and enjoyed them - they need to bring back same/similar programme now with live audience like that and interesting news and entertainment and varied presenters like that , instead of the format of 1 or 2 staid boring stale presenters behind a desk as they have these days.

    About time ITV thought about restoring a format like they had in the 1980s. Chris Tarrant presented a programme like that for the West Midlands audiences, but we lost one edition in 1983.

      I agree, BBC regional news is 100% boring, dull and stale.

      Is that the 'Central News Friday Show' you are referring to?

      The nearest thing nowadays is the BBC's One Show, and that's god-awful.

    Used to love the 6 O'Clock Show after getting home from school and finishing homework. Remember Janet Street Porter, Danny Baker , Chris Tarrant and Fred Housego (did he do a traffic report). Didn't realise the series ran for over 5 years so I guess these people weren't all present together. Vaguely also remember Samantha Fox as well

      @MQsCues 7 лет назад +1

      sslaxx They only did Friday evenings, easy for them since they'd already been at work all day. From 1982 when LWT's franchise start time moved to 17:15 on Fridays, until 1988.

      In 1982 the IBA ordered LWT to provide a decent local news service. Saturdays and Sundays had local news bulletins read by LWT continuity announcers, using material from LBC Radio. Fridays, LWT did not want to bother providing a news bulletin, so they contracted it out to Thames for an annual fee, to provide a 15 minute bulletin during the 6 O'Clock Show. In 1988, all changed when IBA threatened LWT if they did not do a proper local news programme.

    I wonder if a 1988 Copy will ever turn up since that would have the LWT news on it Also the titles started at 1min past does that mean unlike all other itv areas LWT had 1min advert slotted in?

      They probably ran a trailer for some of their weekend programming at 18:00...
      Here's the first 1988 edition, with the first ever LWT News: ruclips.net/video/jfV6iTSAAqA/видео.html

      Six O'Clock Live replaced it.

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 2 дня назад

      Actually LWT initially replaced it with a scaled down version of the show, in a new programme called Friday Now. That failed, and Six O'Clock Live was produced instead. LWT could see the 1991 ITV franchise auction approaching, and wanted to showcase they could actually do proper news, so in 1988 LWT finally launched their own regional news service along with the rebranded Friday evening show.
