This guy is great. Normally the first 10 minutes is how I love my old camera and I had rice crispies for breakfast, this guy is straight into the info, explains it well and is thorough.
We want to make some clarification of the problems mentioned in the review: 1. Due to the Bulb mode limitation on the cameras, the Pluto Trigger can not time an exposure less than 1/20 second. So the HDR mode is actually Long Exposure HDR. 2. It is actually very easy to use the Timer mode. First set the start time (e.g. "8H 0M 0S” -- 8am) and end time (e.g. “14H 0M 0S” -- 2pm). Then choose the mode to take photos or record video. If you choose Photo mode, you have the option to set the interval. For example, set the interval to 10s. Then Pluto Trigger will take photos every 10 seconds from 8am to 2pm every day. If you choose Video mode, set the re-trigger time to "30M 3S" to overcome the 30mins recording limitation. 3. For the Vibration mode, you can set the sensitivity to very low (close to 0). Then you will be able to trigger your camera by shaking your phone. Sometimes this could be very useful. For example, when you are taking photos of fireworks, you just shake your phone when you see fireworks show up. 4. For the Voice mode, you need to say "Pluto" slowly, like "P-lu-to".
I really appreciate this review. Unlike many reviewers you get right to the point. That combined with a huge amount of information at a good pace and this is easily one of the best RUclips reviews/tutorials I have seen.
I've had Pluto for over a year and never taken it out of the box. Decided to start messing around with it and found your awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
Is it possible to use the Pluto Trigger for automatic continuous high speed shooting? = setting a delay, hitting the button in the app and the camera will shoot 20 images in high speed mode? Maybe also with a 10 seconds pause afterwards and that it will start again? So without holding my finger on the button (only once, to start the session)?
Great video well done and well explained. My problem is I continue to get the spinning wheel and the icon does not show up nor does the release work in any mode. Suggestions? Thanks
Hi Spyros, I like how you give in depth info on photography in general and when you review products too! I would use the trigger for night sky and for fireworks photos. Thanks!
Hi Spyros, your reviews and tutorials are simply the best. I re-watched "how to photographs fireworks" for the 4th of July...that's when i realized how handy a remote shutter like PLUTO could be. If you guys wanna learn to shoot in MANUAL mode, Spyros' tutorials are fantastic. I love your passion and i'm getting so much better at taking pictures and i'm no longer afraid to miss a shot. Thanks my friend.
Was 'on the fence' about buying the Pluto Trigger but after watching your excellent review I ordered a trigger, 2 cables (different camera bodies) and the receiver/transmitter gadget as well. Thank You for putting this great review together!
Awesome review on the Pluto Trigger kit, overwhelmed at how many options it has...thanks for your honesty on the pros & cons about this product. It would be interesting to use some of the features especially the lightning trigger...lots of storms her in the South. Once again great review.
I've seen a lot of negative comments in reviews about the HDR function so I'd like to give a different opinion. My Nikon P950 is limited to 3 shots of 1 stop intervals. Not nearly enough for my uses. The Pluto Trigger allows me to take my HDR on the P90 to the next level.
After a long long time I have found a great review of a new product.. it is clear and precise and easily understood. Thank you for such an amazing video review.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for that. It wasn't clear to me what the Pluto sensed to trigger the camera while in the lightning setting. Is it the difference of the light (bright vs dark) or is it triggered by a visual change (infrared which we can't see) in the air surrounding the lightning before a strike happens. Thanks.
Really enjoyed this tutorial. I have had my Pluto for quite a while. Used it a bit but did not really understand it. You made it a lot clearer. Thank you. Have now subscribed and looking forward to more lessons.
I really appreciate your detailed review. I decided to try photography to do fun and artistic to combat COVID isolation. I just bought a camera and you make this trigger sound exciting!
I've been looking intently at this Trigger and so far have found none other with such a wide range of features that come included in the base price. I had some questions for them about some particulars and they responded by email same day and that's a PLUS!
Thank you for you review on the Pluto Trigger. I started taking up photography after I was retrenched. I was in photography club when I was in college some 30 years ago and those days taking high speed shots was very expensive (developing prints) and not once I manage to get a good high speed shot. After watching your review, I ordered the Pluto trigger. I am now awaiting delivery. Thank you
Great review Spyros! (and I like the new location for shooting - plus the PiP of the app as you described the features). I will be checking Pluto out after seeing this.
Thank you for the excellent review. Are you able to do a review demonstrating the gadget? I'm having trouble deciding between the Pluto trigger and the Cambuddy.
In the manual it says that you can update firmware in the app. It does not however, tell you how to do that, or where that setting is. Any help on that?
This is a wonderful review. As I was watching, I started having questions. Just as I had my question, sure enough, the answer was given. I just moved to Tampa, FL, the lightening capital of the world. I got tired of doing multiple bursts of shots trying to accidentally catch a lightening bolt and started looking for other options. I had it narrowed down to the Pluto or the Miops. While the Miops does a lot of other things, after watching this video, I think that the Pluto will do for now. Later, I might want more, but it looks like the Pluto will do lightening just fine. Thanks! You just saved me $100!!
This is similar to a MIOPS trigger only on steroids. I have used the MIOPS for a year or so and I am going to get a Pluto trigger as well. I like all the options on the smartphone app as well. Great review and thanks for the heads up.
When using the nd filter calculator you need to know exactly how many stops your filter really is. You may buy a 6 stop filter that's actually more like a 4 or 5 stop filter. Some companies aren't that precise when they make theirs. But as long as you know where your filter actually is you can use the calculator fine.
Thanks for the review. This trigger is interesting . Your review is straightforward and not flowered. Easy to follow and real. The review supplied some points that help to see how you could use this trigger
I really love your review because you not only talk about all features, but explained them. I was looking for an intervalometer for my Sony A7III and after your review, I think Pluto will be it.
The time lapse looks so easy. I don't do them often enough to remember all the settings that need to be calculated. This would simplify it significantly. I also want do try lightning capture. Very informative review of a great product.
Hey Spyros, absolutely love the detail in your video's. Including (if not especially) the honesty (i.e. identifying that the bluetooth connection is unintuitive). You identify an area that isn't perfect but it's not a negative comment either.
Great Review.Have A question will The pluto trigger my Nikon Strobes SB 600 & SB 700? There are no connections for a cord. I also have a YonGnuo flash trigger that does have connections. Trying to get everything in order so I can make my purchase. Thanks again and appreciate any help
In order to get it to trigger your Nikon strobes, you'll need a hotshoe adapter to add a port to it. They're pretty cheap. Here's one on Amazon: amzn.to/2uz6tIj
Thanks for doing this video! Just unboxed a Pluto today and had some teething issues, after watching your video I was able to understand the functions a lot more. Cheers
Very interesting. I've been following you for three or four years now, and have found your videos very useful. I definitely like the product reviews as well :)
Excellent tutorial, good pace and informative at the same time...I now feel ready to try out the Pluto trigger which I have had for about a year...(still in its box!) :D
This sounds very interesting! Nice review, thanks. I'm looking for an inexpensive studio strobe trigger, or even a DIY one, and might be able to use this along with all the other kewl features. But I'm not clear whether it would do what I want, which is: I want to use a pair of small flash units behind the subject to (a) light the background, and (b) serve as a hair light. These units, in Nikon's Commander mode are super easy to set up and adjust from the camera menu, and are adjusted and controlled by the popup flash's preflash. Very nice. But my Cowboy Studio main strobes are simple, only need a flash or PC cord to trigger, adjustments are from the back of each strobe which I find easy. But, what triggers them? The preflash would, but occurs before the shutter opens. I do have a cheap RF transmitter and 2 receivers, which works fine, but still needs something to trigger the transmitter. The transmitter could be attached to a slave unit sitting next to the background/hairlight strobes so it would only be triggered by these strobes, not the preflash. So, can the Pluto sense the background/hairlight strobes, and trigger the RF transmitter? Or can it only operate the camera, not an other device? Yes, those slaves are cheap, but the reviews on them are very bad, and it would just be yet another piece of hardware to keep track of. What thinks you?
Looks good! Hope it works better than the Micnova trigger I got! That was pathetic. So sensitive it would set off the shutter soon as you plugged in the cable on the lowest sensitivity!
Great video, very informative! have you tried shooting lighting with this trigger during the day? I am wanting to try some daytime lightning photography and I am hoping this senser will fullfil my needs.
This was an informative review, thanks. Can the device cause the lens to open after a trigger is sensed and then after a selectable delay fire the flash? Is there any way to separate the camera trigger from the flash trigger or do camera and flash triggers always fire at the same time?
Hello! The P1000 does have a bulb mode. You have to be in Manual Mode, with the ISO set to 100 to be able to activate it. As to why the pluto is not triggering the camera, I couldn't say without way more information. Have you tried contacting Pluto support? They've always been very responsive in the past.
useful and in-depth review, thank you for delving into the minutiae of the Pluto Trigger. I'm primarily interested in it for Lightning so I may proceed based on your info
James, I'm also want to buy Pluto Trigger for Lightning. What's your opinion? I'm weighing my options between this and Lightning Trigger from Stepping Stone Products in Dolores, CO. Thanks.
Thank you for so much great information. I have considered buying a lightning trigger as I often attempt to capture lightning strikes. At $119 this is a much better value than a lightning trigger at $100 considering you can use it for so much more. Thanks
Now all they need is a variant that can push a physical plunger for old film cameras - if you want to do ultra long exposures running into hours, nothing could be better than (say) a Spotmatic or similar, which will fire and stay open for as long as you want without the issue of running out of battery power. Admittedly it's probably easier to just set your phone's alarm and use an old fashioned release cable (or go back even further and use an SV or S1a or something similar with "Time" mode, that leaves the shutter open until you command it to shut; again, no battery issues.)
Excellent review, you covered all bases. Thanks! I have a question though. Is it possible to control Shutter speed, aperture and ISO and take a single shot remotely with this set up ?
Holy wow. How many functions can they squeeze into that!? Timelapse would be fun. Also, there's gotta be a name for the "three dot thing", but I haven't found it.
Some reviews state battery life is short for night sky shooting during long periods and that you can't use the unit and charge it at the same time. Is that true? Thanks.

Wow what an awesome idea. This would be awesome to utilize in so many different aspects of photography I can't count them all. My creative side has not shut off since seeing this video. Some one please help. I am dreaming of this cool item. I shall be an unofficial official spokesman for this fabulous product. I vote this the item of the year. Way to go Pluto. You guys are so good you must be from another Planet. Pluto perhaps. Great job. I want one.
Nice review. Just got mine to use with my Nikon D810. I do quite a lot of LE photography where being in mirror lock-up mode can be v important for image sharpness. On my D810 this will only work in Live View in M-Up mode. Just an FYI. Thanks for the great review, it helped a lot.

Could the vibration mode be triggered by a phone call with phone set to vibrate. You could call from elsewhere to trigger a photo.
I really appreciate this review. Unlike many reviewers you get right to the point. That combined with a huge amount of information at a good pace and this is easily one of the best RUclips reviews/tutorials I have seen.

Just got my Pluto Trigger and was dumfounded at first so, this review really put things in focus for me.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bought the trigger and droplet valve based on this review but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks!
Was 'on the fence' about buying the Pluto Trigger but after watching your excellent review I ordered a trigger, 2 cables (different camera bodies) and the receiver/transmitter gadget as well. Thank You for putting this great review together!
If this isn’t the best instructional video I’ve seen, it’s near the top. No wasted time. Thanks!
can this work bluetooth with nikon snapbridge as well as tethered for Nikon D500???
Awesome review on the Pluto Trigger kit, overwhelmed at how many options it has...thanks for your honesty on the pros & cons about this product. It would be interesting to use some of the features especially the lightning trigger...lots of storms her in the South. Once again great review.

One of the best reviews I’ve ever watched
Great review! Looks like a lot of solutions all rolled into a tidy little package. Definitely looking into this trigger more...
After a long long time I have found a great review of a new product.. it is clear and precise and easily understood. Thank you for such an amazing video review.

Thank you ageofgrace100!
Really enjoyed this tutorial. I have had my Pluto for quite a while. Used it a bit but did not really understand it. You made it a lot clearer. Thank you. Have now subscribed and looking forward to more lessons.
How does the Infrared Sensor for wildlife fotography work?
You are a good reviewer. Thorough and fair. Well done.
Thanks so much for the useful information. I am actually waiting for it to arrive.
I really appreciate your detailed review. I decided to try photography to do fun and artistic to combat COVID isolation. I just bought a camera and you make this trigger sound exciting!
Great video as always & great review! I had the this in my wishlist & you've given me lots to think about. Thank you!
Wow. This was exactly what I was looking for. You are awesome! Thank your so much!
Good honest review as usual. I like the idea of the trigger's many options. It really expands on the camera options.
How do you use the light meter on the pluto trigger
Do you also use bulb in Timelapse?
I've been looking intently at this Trigger and so far have found none other with such a wide range of features that come included in the base price. I had some questions for them about some particulars and they responded by email same day and that's a PLUS!
Have you tried the bulb ramping feature?

Did it end up working well as an intervalometer on the A7III? I have an A7RIII and am considering this. Thanks.
Such a nice review, i wish you included a few details around battery performance. But again, very detailed and informative.
This is an awesome little gadget to have in your gear bag! Great review!

Nice job you helped me choose to buy one I ordered it just a little while ago. Thank you.
Do you ever think you'll do some tutorials for people getting into old school film photography? I'd love to see your approach on it :)
Will this thing work with the Nikon D3400? Since The camera only has a mini usb and hdmi port .
OMG this is THE most amazing piece of kit. This would be amazing for me because I'm just getting into long exposure photography.
Great review, very informative.
Susan Leonard
Would have been nice to show results of the lightning photos ,
useful and in-depth review, thank you for delving into the minutiae of the Pluto Trigger. I'm primarily interested in it for Lightning so I may proceed based on your info

James, I'm also want to buy Pluto Trigger for Lightning. What's your opinion? I'm weighing my options between this and Lightning Trigger from Stepping Stone Products in Dolores, CO. Thanks.
Fantastic. Thank you very much for your awesome review. I've watched a lot of video about Pluto, but this is the best one
Spyros, You do some of the best reviews for new products. Thank you for helping me learn about my passion for photography.
Looks like a cool tool. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for so much great information. I have considered buying a lightning trigger as I often attempt to capture lightning strikes. At $119 this is a much better value than a lightning trigger at $100 considering you can use it for so much more. Thanks
Good review. Does the Pluto trigger have a proximity sensor too?
Now all they need is a variant that can push a physical plunger for old film cameras - if you want to do ultra long exposures running into hours, nothing could be better than (say) a Spotmatic or similar, which will fire and stay open for as long as you want without the issue of running out of battery power. Admittedly it's probably easier to just set your phone's alarm and use an old fashioned release cable (or go back even further and use an SV or S1a or something similar with "Time" mode, that leaves the shutter open until you command it to shut; again, no battery issues.)
No reason this couldn't be done with an Arduino and an actuator pushing the plunger.
Excellent review, you covered all bases. Thanks! I have a question though. Is it possible to control Shutter speed, aperture and ISO and take a single shot remotely with this set up ?
No the exposure settings have to be preset
Good honest review. Answered ALL my questions.
Good thorough and honest review. Thanks.
Nice review, thanks! I just got my Triggertrap trigger, cheaper and less functional but do it's job.
Nice review Spyros, very informative
Great review. Appreciate your honesty about the Pluto Trigger.
WOW just ordered mine hope it is good as they say
Holy wow. How many functions can they squeeze into that!?
Timelapse would be fun.
Also, there's gotta be a name for the "three dot thing", but I haven't found it.
Why did you skip the PIR mode? Thats the only reason I’m thinking of buying one.
Sorry about that! I don't recall why I skipped it. I meant to cover everything.
Some reviews state battery life is short for night sky shooting during long periods and that you can't use the unit and charge it at the same time. Is that true? Thanks.
I’m sorry. I can’t speak to the battery life for night sky shooting. I haven’t used it for that.
I’ll have to see about using it and changing it at the same time. I’ve never tried that. I’ll try and report back
@@spyrosheniadis Thanks so much for your reply
@@bt10ant you can use and charge
Can you see a preview of what's your camera seeing on your phone? That's mainly what I'm looking for. Thank you!
Loved the video, but does the PLUTO have to be used with a tripod????
It doesn't have to be, it depends entirely on the function you are using and how you are using it.
Fantastic review, looking forward to getting one too :)

WOW !!..... Super in depth review . Thank you very much .

That Pluto Trigger is amazing. Thanks for sharing a new tech toy!
+Spyros Heniadis That is amazing!!! Thank you!!! I'm so excited. Christmas in July.
Enjoyed the info. So much info that I will have to watch several time.
My tap mode doesn’t work. Hints?
