Any tips on what to take from boxing into Muay Thai style striking? I’ve just recently started Muay Thai at 18yrs of age (no other martial arts exp) and I’ve noticed that my style is very “hands heavy” - how would you recommend I utilise traditional boxing in Muay thai or what are some things you’ve personally taken advantage of with your boxing background

    • @LeyendasDelCrimen
      @LeyendasDelCrimen 6 месяцев назад +1

@@Mo_Abdullahi Pull backs for me work well. My base is in Dutch kickboxing too. So start with hand combinations finish with low kick. Some good Dutch Kickboxing stylists: Hamicha, Nieky Holzken, Doumbe and a great Boxer and Muay Thai Stylist is Samart Payakaroon.
Muay Thai stylist often flare elbows because of long guard/Kick trajectory/punches not scoring well in Muay Thai. Practice Jabbing and straights against a wall. If your elbow hits the wall they will see tells of a punch coming.
Wider base is stronger punches. Narrow base is faster kicks.
Muay Thai is more a game of feints. Hip Feints, pulling up the legs.
When you develop your punches more. You can make em fearful of the hands. What I like to do is combine same side setups. Left hook, Left lead lowkick. right straight, right low kick.
Develop a good dutch guard to counter with punches. Catch kicks so you can counter with punches. I mostly fake a right and slam a left liver shot in when they cover up and check.
When you feel overwhelmed and someone is teeing off. Keep high guard and just hook low kick out of it. Blindly. It will at least stop their onslaught.
I got a great Left hook so I use that to come off Knees and kicks. But you can also double it up and set up a kick with it.
These are just some unstructured thoughts but those tips will help.

@@Mo_Abdullahi Double up on the same side when someone has head movement.
Double jabs, Jab lefthook, Right straight uppercut.
Remember you still need to have solid defence to get through that Kicking reach disadvantage. Checks, blocking middle kicks and countering based off these is key.
Remember speed kills. Try to get that pop in your shots. Don't put everything into every shot. make em guess.

@@LeyendasDelCrimen bro I love this, you’ve covered everything so succinctly and clearly. I just did sparring today before seeing this message and I realise a lot of what you said are things that could’ve helped me.
Do you happen to have any advice or exercises on how to condition myself to keeping my guard up. My arms tire out after 3 or 4 rounds in sparring - it ruins the flow and pace of the fight.
I also have trouble setting up the left hook to the body, I try to sorta slip in but I end up catching a kick to the face.
Other than that I just want to say thanks for the amazing tips as well as the recommendations. I’ll most definitely be sure to check those fighters out and incorporate it into my game, thanks brother ❤️👊

For guys that aren't super fast with their legs like me, I've actually found great success with my teep by not bringing my knee up first. It's faster and has less tell but it's not as powerful so you really have to turn your hips and drive that pillar leg into the ground to get the power. My kru finally stopped giving me shit when I showed him a Damien Alamos seminar where he does exactly that, I think he refers to it as a stab teep.

I threw my kicks like that for years why not bring in power and push at same time. I was told for years that's wrong to way to teep. The trainer tried say this is Muay Thai class not karate class. I didn't listen becuase I reject what I know is not true. The way he throws here really hurts the ribs. I always carry through hips into front keep. I mean I just call it front kick some call it teeps too. I also saw people for years at my gym only do short straight punches sacrifices power. The foot pivot is important but don't want to over pivot turn leg to side expose leg as big target. The over hand write only throw once in while of someone is off balance becuase you will get countered with knee if don't. The hands after every lunch back to jaw. The hand only gets thrown down for balance with kick hands to face right away after round house kick. A tall guy should avoid throwing hooks just do straight punches as far as punches go. The shower fighter hooks elbows knees and some leg rib kicks when you gas other guy out. The round house kick get back to ground quick.
