Happy 29th Anniversary! Nothing happy about that day, it was horrific. Can’t believe we survived. Scariest day of my life and it left me with PTSD. I was 12 years old in 1992 and I couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening outside because it felt like the world just exploded all around us. I will never forget the sounds, the smell, the screams I heard that day. The walls breathing in and out, the tile popping up on the floor, the mirrors shattering, the roof caving in on us, the roof being ripped off, running room to room to escape the damage happening, laying on high heel shoes in my moms closet crammed with 5 people, having diarrhea from being so frightened, sitting in the bathtub we filled with water and having mattresses over us, my dad almost being sucked out of house because he opened a door and a window broke from the pressure, breathing in the blown in insulation from the roof caving in, hearing our animals yelping in fear, Seeing the damage afterwards was a sight I will never get out of my head. Gone! Everything was gone! But we escaped with our lives and I am grateful for that. The aftermath was an adventure and it took 2 years to rebuild. Childhood memories I will keep forever.

I was 13, and in Country Walk next to Metro Zoo... Everything you just said is true... Nobody else seems to understand WHAT a Cat4 or Cat5 Hurricane IS. Up here in Virgina, where they've gotten weak Cat2 or less the last 80+ years, they joke about Hurricanes.
Makes me mad inside, because I remember the pure fucking HORROR Andrew was. Vividly.

This storm didn't end in Florida. Devastating to the Louisiana gulf coast as well.

This is what's going to happen with Dorian, Dorian is not going to turn like Andrew.

That was the after-party... Cat5 in Kendall, Homestead was the end of the fucking world. I lived, and then camped through it for 3 months after.
