The Story Behind the Song:
'Rupohi Sohor', literally meaning 'beautiful town' was conceived on a random, gloomy winter evening in Guwahati. However, it took me over a year to figure out the real essence of the song. It traveled with me through the cities and mountains and seas and people, and finally showed itself in Goa in an intimate trip to Goa with my childhood friends! Following a chance meeting on another winter evening, the song eventually became a fun musical collaboration between myself and veteran guitarist Brother Lui from Shillong. His excellent yet minimalistic musical sensibilities gave just the right lift to the composition. Finally, Kadambari Kashyap, another gem in her field and an old friend came onboard for the visual imagination of the song. Her signature dreaminess is what the musical film carries.
The song-
The song chases a girl romancing the cities she travels to and the surrounding love, (be)longing and nostalgia. The singer sees her city as a beautiful paradox in which the ones who leave don’t really leave and the ones who stay back struggle to belong. Love abandons, like sparrows escaping the concrete chaos. And despite, there is that someone who makes the city 'rupohi' for her! Is he love? Tune in to the song to find out! :)
