- Hello everyone! Welcome to my Hunter x Hunter review of the Chimera Ant Arc! This review is spoiler heavy.

"The Chimera Ant arc is the sixth (officially fifth) story arc of the series, officially called "Chimera Ants Arc" by Viz. The arc spans from Chapters 186 to 318 of the manga. It was not animated in the first anime adaptation (from 1999) due to the manga's irregular publishing schedule. Meruem is one of the best written anime character of all time. His character development was amazing

I’m interested of what Togashi will do with Gyro. I thought the way they introduced him was pretty cool and Til this day His backstory never fails to amaze me. Having a mostly Black and White dull animation and the fact that we never even got to see what he looks like really sets the tone of how evil Gyro could really be.
The scene where knov enters the palace is the most suspense scene ive ever watched.

Not gonna lie this arc does drag in the anime with a ton narration. The beginning and the ending were the best parts!
I remember there was one episode that went crazy with the narration.. it was the one with Killua in the palace hallway. It's a fantastic story, but I do agree there are some parts that drag.
9:33 It makes sense if you remember nen initiation from the Heaven's Arena arc. Hitting a person with a nen-infused attack is one way to open up their aura nodes. Since some Chimera ants are partly human, they can awaken nen in a similar way.
I don't remember that. Lol. I definately recall the water test for everyone getting introduced to nen, but not getting hit with a nen infused attack to open up aura nodes, until Rammot was hit really hard, and then Colt.
@@GoldenScouter Nen initiation (aka nen baptism) was basically how those three dudes in Heaven's Arena got their 'disabilities' and learned nen. Wing introduced the concept by explaining to Gon and Killua how dangerous it is to go to the 200th floor without knowing anything functional about nen.
@@GoldenScouter There are two ways to learn learn Nen: 1. slowly and safe (it's took months even for the really gifted one, ex Zushi) 2. fast and dangerous (Gon, Killua, most of the chimera ants). Wing used his nen to open Gon's and Killua's micopores, which is similar to Gon use his nen opening Rammot. The only difference is Wing didn't use as much nen as Gon, becaseu he didn't want to hurt them.
@@GoldenScouter my crazy mind was thinking. Queen is shown to be capable of deep thought and emotions, minor communication. Maybe she was born of nen blood? But lacked the full humanity to develop an ability.

Two of the critics you have for the arc, where Gon’s punch opens Ramot’s Nen, and Gon’s long trail of hair, both come from the same episode. Back in the Battle Arena arc Wing tells Gon and Killua that their Nen energy escapes from the head, that’s why it looks like Gon has long flowing hair. He is emitting so much Nen that it looks like he las really long hair. Also Gon punching Ramot was supposed to mirror Wing using force to open Gon and Killua’s Nen. Wing didn’t punch them, but I’m sure he could have as a means to open their Nen, just as Gon did to Ramot. Just thought I’d add that as maybe you didn’t remember the episode or didn’t see it or just didn’t out the pieces together. It was over a hundred episodes prior. So understandable.

I dont think the needle is bad, since killuas fear and doubts are all real only the needle amplifies his fear when killua begins to try get out of his comfort zone, being a physical manisfestation of killuas family telling him he cant be anything other than an assasin. However i cant say that it was really neccessary either to have the needle but i do get why the author was trying to go for.

Im a big hunter x hunter fan. I particularly like more the 1999 because of how detailed the colors were. Everything was vibrant and truly like an art. Literally like a painting.
Having said that, im not much a fan of the chimera ant arc firstly because it was too long. Too many scenes and episodes that were just there to make it long. To make it's just like the usual anime that has sooo many episodes. That is the part of hunter x hunter that made me feel like it's just like the other animes.
I used to like one piece, but it is extremely long and grows old on me that most of it are just done to prolong the anime. To make money because there are tons of followers. At least one piece has tons of arcs.
Chimera ant arc has like 60 episodes. Truthfully speaking, the core episodes of that can be cut down to probably 30 episodes.
Removing all the prolonging scens and episodes. Extremely long narrations that made it look like a trying hard anime. Removing all those im certainly positive that it can be cut down to half. There's no need to make it very long. Phantom troupe arc was great because it feels raw, straight to the point but not bland at all. Chimera ant arc with 60 episodes is just brutally over the top especially after watching them all and you realize that it can be just half of the episodes and youd still get the best and important parts.
Chimera ant arc made me feel like it lost that raw feeling that the Phantom troupe arc had.
It felt artificial. It felt like just another very long anime thats out there to make more episodes (chapters for manga) for more money.
There was alot in this arc that cuddve been cut short alot and alot of it just felt like filler to me, alot of weird plot holes and side stories that just took too long to 3xplain and go nowhere, I loved meruems arc turn it made u sympathetic to his values and shows that he grew as a character. Netero just seemed like the villain in the end, which didn't make sense bcuz he was talking about diplomacy before the fight and then he just goes full on it doesn't matter what u say I need to kill you. I felt killing off the royal guard and the king with radiation poisoning was just a way to end quickly, an adult Gon and Meruem fight wuddve been dope
at first i didnt like the Yorknew arc but everyone said it was good so i watched it again and i actually loved it, i think first time i watched it i thought it was boring and i was just thinking about the next arc but man the 2nd time watching it i was like dang this is really good but i like the chimera ant arc better because i found the moments to be better and it was like 61 episodes (and i know more episodes dosent mean better but still) i really liked this arc and yes i just loved Netero vs Meruem and gon turning into a monster cmon man i just really liked this arc but i still like the Yorknew arc cuz of Kurupika with the scarlet eyes and i loved the fights but most of all i was scared the whole time.
FINALLY. I've been waiting so long for this 😂

i just finished the show not knowing anything but i will say i liked the ant arc but i felt it was a little to long and it was annoying when it was over the wish that healed gon made me like so some little sister that we didn't know is all of sudden here and can heal without a problem why it dumb i get it but they could of done it better
One thing I noticed about kite ability and why he gets annoyed about the roles that his ability is based on his true natural born nen a sense of danger witch manifest into the right role based on how dangerous the situation so its not random if you can't see why I'll explain he was a homeless survive by any means necessary that growing his nen powers before he new it second when he get killed the role pick up the worst number witch is the one thing would keep him alive when he along with gon and killua the role got him a Scythe why it was out of subconscious fear that the 2 kids are to reckless to fight all of them strategically conserving ther power for the next encounter so his nen based on his subconscious sense of danger
I love this arc but...
- Palm is insufferable
- The Phantom Troupe fights are pretty unimportant
- We get a few too many fodder ant fights for Gon and Killua
- The Narrator can't shut up
- Ikalgos Subplot in the palace us boring
I like the moments where he states things you wouldn't get otheriwse but half the time he tells us about stuff we saw 2 seconds ago that don't meed to be explained.
It's like Show and tell.

I disagree with the narration. I feel is was insanely pointless with a lot of unnecessary infodumbs and random flashbacks. I can see Killua being scared, and didn't need to be told about it. Or that the Kameleon Ant turned invisable to do something while the others fight Red Muscle ant.
There are three soundtracks that I associated with the narrator which annoys me.
I really didn't like Gon's arc and how Killua overcame mind control which came out of nowhere.
I don't think anything about Gyro was shown in the anime version. It was very confusing to hear about him. Who the hell is that guy and why should I care was the only thing in my mind. The arc after the Chimera Ant arc was boring but at least Gon found his dad.
It didn't become an anime I want to see more off. And knowing that the manga goes to long hiatuses, I am glad that I have never touched it especially waiting for over a decade for Pokemon Special Manga finishing the Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 Saga which was the last good story arc. XY, ORAS and SM were pretty boring. Most likely because new generations and games are rushed to the point the mangaka can't take full advantage of his storytelling toolbox like he used too.
I could have gone in harder on that point with the narration, I will admit. Lol.
I thought Gon's arc was interesting, but it doesn't really amount to much in the grand scheme of things. And yeah, the needle was really dumb with Killua.
He is a leader of an army, who was revered. He is still mysterious and needs to be followed up on. I want to see more because the series doesn't feel complete, but I'm not holding my breath since Togashi is imfamous for his hiatuses. Lol. At least Yu Yu Hakusho ended things off really nicely. I haven't seen Pokemon beyond X and Y, which was very flawed.
Bad roll. 😆 Good video but I personally think Yorknew City is better.
Thank you! It's hard for me to decide which I like better. If Kurapika was present during this story, I would definately side with Chimera Ant over Yorknew City.
