Rockford Fosgate amplifiers have been my go to for years now. But JL Audio amplifiers are definitely something to consider. These results were impressive indeed.
JL never fails to impress. Top dollar amps but we'll worth the money due to quality, longevitive and performance. By far my favorite car audio manufacturer. I have owned many of there products since the late 90s and I have never been disappointed. Thanks for the video
I had an older model JL e4300 and it never failed or gave me a single problem, and took it's share of abuse. I noticed the amp itself had no replaceable fuses on the outside, they had a lot of confidence in their products.
You won't find many folks complaining about JL audio. That says something. I'm a Rockford guy myself but I wouldn't say no to a JL amp and omg! How efficient? All the efficiency!
Great video Dereck! Even better results than I expected. Have heard on the forums that the RD amps sound even better than the XD line. Bruce Macmillian also designed the R.I.P.s technology while at PPI that would ultimately become the basis of what we now know as the JL Slash series. BTW, the new RD1500/1 claims to do it's highest rated power at 2 or 1 ohms with either 14.4 or 12.5 volts input. Wonder how it does that??? Hmmm. For all the old school car audio fans who don't like modern class D, present day JL Audio with MacMillian, Jeff Scoon, Manville Smith (and probably others I'm leaving out) is the closest thing to the original PPI we will ever see again. They continue to innovate and move the ball forward. Yes, JL products are a bit more expensive but, as Dereck says definitely get a lot for your investment.
Couldn't have said it better myself. If everyone bought the cheapest cents per watt amp they can find then the only R and D would be in Korea, China, or Brazil. You can't do .15 a watt amps and afford to keep electrical engineers on the payroll. I think people continue to confuse car audio companies with car audio distributors. Although I wish companies like Kicker and JL Audio would manufacturer their designs here. Companies like skar, audio pipe, DC are car audio companies as much as Sonic Electronics is. Yes they distribute car audio gear. That's about it.
Seriously, for the price, I think they should at least include one. I would love to listen to music in fantasy land where all music is recorded at the same quality and recording level. Since fantasy land doesn't exist (drug induced fantasy land doesn't count) , I need that damn knob.

Dereck makes a great point in this video about how all 1000 watt amps are NOT the same. Just because you can find a similarly rated amp for a lot less money does not mean you will get the same performance, durability and long term reliability as JL Audio. IMO the RD series are among the best bangs for your car audio buck you will find. Find a dealer that stocks this amp or a friend who already owns one and audition it before buying from Fleabay.
Why did this remind me of the RF Prime R-1200 when you took the cover off ? They actually had very similar power numbers. But the Prime 1200 is half the price and includes the "knob of quad"
I always expect a JL amp to deliver it's rated power, so the ratings do not surprise me. Glad they are still putting out great products, they have been doing it for a long time.

Would like to see the RD 1500/1 because it's rated 1500 at both 1 and 2 ohms (using the impedance switch). Not only that, but at 1 ohm, it's rated the same 1500 watts whether 14.4 or 12.5 volts. I'd love to see how that translates on the amp dyno. Since this is different than the RD 1000, does that mean it has a regulated power supply?
It's never a disappointment of performance from JL Audio. Can you confirm if you set the gain on this via your AMM-1 or via the clipping light on the amp. And how accurate is the clipping light? Great job as always
I would definitely use this amplifier at 8 ohms. What I was told by an audio guru and very good friend was that the higher the impedance the cleaner the sound is but amp doesn't produce as much power and the lower the impedance you get more distortion but amplifier puts out more power. So 500+ watts RMS going to a sub at 8 ohms is a lot of power at a low distortion point as I hear anyways.
So after a month this thing died on me, jl audio repaired it for me and its been hitting hard now close to a year. Really impressive for cheap b stock amp :P
Wish we could see an amp dyno drag race between this and an Infinity K1000 (or newer Kappa One K). I mentioned Infinity because it's efficiency rating is similar (if Ryan's volt meter was correct), but Infinity put out more power.
No infrasonic filter? your thoughts on this? looking to buy a RD amp for a W3 in there H.O. box. wondering if I will really need the infrasonic filter. THX!
Does any have any advice? I bought this amp paired with a jl w7 12 in a jl factory box. I also have a Kenwood aftermarket radio. When the volume is at max it barely moves my review mirror. I'm extremely disappointed. It was professional installed by a local shop. The sub pops when turning on the car and a low hum that doesnt turn off till the car is turned off. Any thoughts?
Another question I have is why on the inside of the amp does the remote wire terminal have such a beefy connection to the motherboard. I mean if you're only needing 200 milliamps to turn the amp on why do they put such a huge connection on it. And why do they make the terminal able to take 10 gauge wire. You only need like 16 gauge remote wire to do it. I'm thinking they put that huge terminal on there because next to the other power and ground it is cheaper for them to manufacture them like that or something. Doesn't make any sense to me. Seems like it would be just a little 16 gauge wire going into the motherboard but it has like a connection able to hold 500 amps or something.
Derrick, Nice video, Just purchased this amp the other day, Using it on a 12" MTX TS85 Dual 2 ohm sub "750 rms" Sub is Wired up for 4 Ohm and connected to the amp. What are your thoughts of having it wired this way rather than the sub being wired at 1 ohm? If sub is wired at the 1 ohm Sub will actually reads 1.3 Ohms in a temp Ported box "Will be doing custom box shortly for sure" in a Subaru wrx
Hey Big D... I bought the Kicker L7 Quad Box on your recommendation. I'm running a mixed bag to it amp wise. I have one pair powered by an older JL Audio Slash 1000.1 and the other pair powered by a newer JL RD Series 1000.1. Both pairs are running independently on separate amps. Just because that's the amps I had / have now. The Quad Box houses each subwoofer pair in their own ported enclosure allowing this type of setup to work just fine. So two each JL 1000.1 amps running at 2 - OHM's work quite well with this 4x12 subwoofer enclosure. My ask is that you please soon dyno a recent JL Audio RD 1500.1 amp. I can see me upgrading to a pair of these soon if the numbers work out. The latest version of these also note they are 1 OHM stable unlike the 1000/1 and below models. Not that these gain any wattage increase on paper from 1 to 2 Ohms according to JL Audio. Without the RIPS power supplies of the Slash series amps I would think dropping to 1 OHM would see a wattage increase in this RD series amp ? What are your thoughts?
I just picked one up for 300. In excellent condition. Going to run a alpine type R 10. To put some low end in my Toyota Avalon. I’m not going to crank the gains up. Just enough to fill in some low end. I should be alright I don’t want to blow the alpine. Any thoughts???
Looking for some Sub. advice.. I have an old Rockford Fosgate Power bd1001amp that puts out 1083rms @2ohm...my question is can a single Sundown Audio SA15d4 handle that kind of power for a daily? Or should I consider one of the 1500wrms subs maybe the E or the U series I forget witch. I plan to build a spec aero ported box as large as I can fit in my trunk with tuning around 32-34hz. Any Sub. recommendations or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Do you know anything about Nemesis audio na / 2500x2 amplifier how does it do on the dyno or any good comments about how good is it . I wanted for SQ audio
Could I run 2 13tw5-2 in parallel for a 1 ohm load? I read the manual and it says it may make a popping noise on certain notes etc but I currently have 1 13tw5 and I love it and the amp but... I want more. Any advice would be appreciated thankyou
Can someone please explain to me how you can pull that many amps and not blow an 80 amp fuse that it recommends? Is it only pulling that current inside the amp and not out of the power wire? I don't get it. I'm dying to hear an answer
I don't get the design? My two jl audio w7's run at 1.5 ohm, most w7's do. Is this amp able to run safely at 1.5 ohm? And if not then it's made for the lower line right?
That one is definitely a great bang for the buck! I estimate it would be very close to 2000 watts dynamic!! Can’t wait to see you dyno it in the future!!!
Hello Big D, always a pleasure to watch a new video, this amps is a beast for sure. What do you think about clarion amps ? Especially the XC series ? Thanks for the video !
Hey bud did you happen to test this amp the rd1000/1 at 12.5 volts? Curious how it performed because ima get a rd1500/1 for 2 13.5 w3v3 subs. The subs are rated at 4 ohms but really they are close to 5 ohms but to be exact they are 4.8 ohms. When I wired the two subs parallel they were 2.5 ohms. The rd1500/1 is rated at 1000watts rms at 3ohms and 1200watts at 2ohms when running off of 12.5 volts. So I'm guessing I'll get about 1100 rms total and 550 rms per sub. I'm just curious because knowing jl audio I'm sure the amp will perform better then what they rate it at. I'm the same person who said to dyno a rd1500/1 lol. Thanks Jeremy

Would this amp be enough for a 12 inch w7
does the rd 500/1 over perform like this? im looking at a w6 with 600 watts rating max continuous so if the rd500 over performs it would be perfect
It does I have it definitely not a 500 watt amp I’ve had 1200 not perform as well as 500/1
How would this compare sound wise to a audiocontrol lc-800.1? I know the jl is stronger but I’m looking for the better sound quality of the 2
U need to do the jl audio xd 1000/1v2!!
Just picked one of these up on B stock too, same price even. Its going into my car this coming week. I cant wait.
So after a month this thing died on me, jl audio repaired it for me and its been hitting hard now close to a year. Really impressive for cheap b stock amp :P
I love the new intro Big D. Old School knobs an UV meters! Killin' it.
Could you do the RD 5 channel ? 🙏🏾
Please test the new JL JD series amps
Wish we could see an amp dyno drag race between this and an Infinity K1000 (or newer Kappa One K). I mentioned Infinity because it's efficiency rating is similar (if Ryan's volt meter was correct), but Infinity put out more power.
So where would the older regular 1000/1 be compared to the ones he compared it to at 0:44??
Love my JL audio setup, you can get alot cheaper equipment but you won't beat the SQ.
Efficiency......wow! 🤙🏾
No infrasonic filter? your thoughts on this? looking to buy a RD amp for a W3 in there H.O. box. wondering if I will really need the infrasonic filter. THX!
I always thought jl made a great high end product with unbelievable sq. But man it's hard to swallow the pill on the prices.
Great video! Love your content, the more refined version of your channel is so professional!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love the bonus content at the end of your videos man... keep up the good work
Keepin' it real and I ALWAYS add extra stuff at the end
Derrick, Nice video, Just purchased this amp the other day, Using it on a 12" MTX TS85 Dual 2 ohm sub "750 rms" Sub is Wired up for 4 Ohm and connected to the amp.
What are your thoughts of having it wired this way rather than the sub being wired at 1 ohm? If sub is wired at the 1 ohm Sub will actually reads 1.3 Ohms
in a temp Ported box "Will be doing custom box shortly for sure" in a Subaru wrx
please do dnyo on rd 1500/1
I love these videos especially with the most popular car amplifiers! Great Video 👍👍
You never fail to impress Big D thanks!!!!!
Can you test the JL RD1500/1 please👍🏻
I just picked one up for 300. In excellent condition. Going to run a alpine type R 10. To put some low end in my Toyota Avalon. I’m not going to crank the gains up. Just enough to fill in some low end. I should be alright I don’t want to blow the alpine. Any thoughts???
Wow. Highly impressed with this JL amp.
My man can you do the rd1500 i want to know what im truly pushing through my twin l7 solo baric s
I just bought the rd400/4 to power my mids. I've never had a jl amp so I hope it works out
Looking for some Sub. Thank you
Hey just wanted to say I love all the videos that you do. It has helped me pick out lots of good amps for friends and family. If you still have the rd amp would you sell it to me?
Keep up the good work I always enjoy watching your videos great content. Hopefully in time you will be able to test out the New Jl audio Rd1500.1
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I got a stupid question and what I'm getting after doing some research is that I can get signal without running a remote or rca's is this true and can u explain that setup I'm trying to avoid buying a lc2i
Do you know anything about Nemesis audio na / 2500x2 amplifier how does it do on the dyno or any good comments about how good is it . I wanted for SQ audio
Can you get your hands on the RD 1500/1 for testing? Love to see the ratings on that amp it's their version of a Fosgate CP amp capable of 1ohm.
Thanks for the suggestion
Could I run 2 13tw5-2 in parallel for a 1 ohm load? I read the manual and it says it may make a popping noise on certain notes etc but I currently have 1 13tw5 and I love it and the amp but... I want more. Any advice would be appreciated thankyou
Do i have to purchase the product in the link for you to get you a commission or can i just click on them?
Can you dyno test a sony xm-gs100 class D amp? Have one running to old kickers wondering if it pushes 600 at 2ohm at it claims
Can you test a jl audio jx 1000/1d? they should be even more efficiënt
We shall see
Williston Audio Labs i saw a test of that amp in a magazine, saying iT was more efficiënt
What size wire did you run that on. Just bought a 1500 and it says 2awg. Does the 0 fit
Love this channel!
Another great choice of a amps.
Does jl have them in 2000watts mono and price and location in NYC I could pick one up
Nice amp, curious as to how the kicker kx1200.1 stacks up to this.
RD1500/1 next!!!!!!
Not next but it’s on the radar for sure
That one is definitely a great bang for the buck! I estimate it would be very close to 2000 watts dynamic!! Can’t wait to see you dyno it in the future!!!
Great information as always. Like the New intro.
Hi, would you say this is ideal to push a JL 10 W7 v.3
Black and gold caps look like panasonic FM series, but they aren't. Not sure I like that much, using an offbrand copy cat for the caps.
An outstanding amplifier. Thanks for sharing!
🕺
Hello Big D, always a pleasure to watch a new video, this amps is a beast for sure. What do you think about clarion amps ? Especially the XC series ?
Thanks for the video !
I don’t have any experience with the Clarion amps, but you never know what’s coming next
will this amp run 2 10 inch digital design audio subwoofers redline 600 series?
You should do a dyno for the RD1500/1. I've heard its jl's most powerful monoblock amp. I'm curious to see how it performs
I will look into it for sure
Williston Audio Labs thanks.
@@wal please do i also have this amp and have wondered how it does on a dyno. Please do the 1500/1 🙏🙏 lol
Yes please do a Rd 1500/1 JL audio thanks love your videos
If im buyin high dollar i demand some damn tiffany (or whatever we call them now) style inputs at least. Had too many go bad.
could you test a behringer ep2500 and maybee some other cheap amps like the t amp or so ?
Nic video Big D keep them coming.
I'm curious about JL audios 5-6 Channel amps
