    IIRC, George Steele was dealing with just getting diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, so he couldn't really bump or do any wrestling at the time, and "retired" from full time matches. The WWE wanted him to get a WM payday, but didn't want him to get into the ring and risk getting hurt, so he stayed on the outside.

    • @robertschumann7737
      @robertschumann7737 3 года назад +12

      Yeah but since the early matches the early matches for so short it definitely would have tarnished their original battle. Plus, if they tore the roof down again the WWF would have had to do a Savage/Steamboat angle. No way the fans let Savage have a peaceful run without facing Steamboat if they had another 5 star match at Wrestlemania. Plus they just turned Savage into a babyface. No way they risk him in an angle against the cleanest babyface in the company.

    • @metalanarchy5186
      @metalanarchy5186 Год назад

      Steamboat and savage could have had a great baby face program where they trade the belt and it could have led to his eventual heel turn so Hogan could have got his belt back it would have made savages reign better instead of mostly working tag matches with Hogan you still could have had that team but like summer slam and what not he should have defended his belt

      Strike Force was a great tag team Chico Santana and Rick the model Martel. Only one the Tag Team Championship once. They never had a tag team finishing move like the doomsday device The rocker dropper which messed up a wrestler jobber named Steve Austin in 1990. Or also the heart attack. Why were the WWF tag team championships decommissioned just like the WWF European championship does anybody know?

I went to a Monday Night Raw there back in 1998(it was the go home show for Summerslam with Austin vs. Taker) and with it's vintage look(built in the 1920's I believe), it's a neat environment. Plus, you walk out the doors and the Atlantic Ocean and beach are right there. I think the AC Mania's 4 & 5 were the only time ever where the same venue was used back to back.

    This was the height of my fandom when I was like 10 or 11. I absolutely loved this Wrestlemania, the storyline leading up to it and all the new options it opened in its wake. And having the baby faces finally get fed up and cheat to win was brilliant. Yes, Savage spent his career in Hulk's shadow. So did EVERYONE else. He was Hulk Hogan. It was his Saturday morning cartoon. It was Hogan that was almost as famous as Michael Jackson worldwide. When he left, WWF fell off a cliff for years which is what allowed WCW to become a legitimate competitor with him even as he aged. I'm sure the matches don't hold up well and they had to have them quick for obvious reasons, but it was the drama that was great with this one. And having Andre and Hulk eliminate each other to open up the field was the best thing ever. For the first time you didn't just know Hogan was leaving Wrestlemania as champ.
