Taker's quote about the Cole vs Lawler match is legendary. It was something like "there are boys in the back that didnt make the card and we just gave Micheal cole 30 minutes...what hell happen to this bussiness"
Yeah like Sheamus and Daniel Bryan....totally with Taker on that one.
This was just a shit Mania in general though. The main event sucked, snooki got co-main instead of Taker v HHH. Punk should have gone over Orton...it was just an absolute clusterfuck of a show.
@@ziahamm1603 Punk losing was the right call. He was just a midcard jobber leading a failure of a group.

Cole lost two teeth and still finished the match? Dumb as hell angle, but damn, props to the guy for pushing through.

@@tyratooOP God that guy has to be the biggest wimp ever in the business. Up there anyways
The J-Walker and he began working on his weight after , I saw a picture of him last year and he’s not super jacked but in way better shape
Even though he hit Cole for real, you have to admit Lawler can throw a pretty nice dropkick for an old guy.
I just noticed that 9 years after I watched it
A few notes about this show to add on:
Daniel Bryan and Sheamus had their US title match bumped to a dark match, and it was a lumberjack match. It was a no contest that then turned into a battle royal which was won by Khali. Imagine that.
Edge didn’t announce his retirement until the week following, not the next day. I was at the SmackDown taping after Mania and Edge was very limited with what he did.
The match with Punk and Orton has a “film cut” on their 2011 best-of PPV matches Blu-ray set, which is pretty cool.
The involvement with Austin and Trish may have had more to do with tying in the relaunch of Tough Enough in 2011. Need I say more.
Surprisingly, this show and the Cole-Lawler match were not given the “worst of” awards from Meltzer that year. Those honors went to Victory Road and Sting-Hardy.
All of the “fruit loop” jokes feel more tacky when you remember that Michael Cole got into some hot water after calling Josh Mathews a certain derogatory F-word on Twitter and the subsequent make-good campaign with GLAAD. What a company this is.
What bunch of sensitive crybaby josh Matthews is
@@kamfisher1714 Im sure the heat was coming from the twitter users more than Josh himself

@@Jiamil Everyone pays their dues... and at least Taker even on his first day taking bumps was five times the man Micheal Cole could ever pretend to be

Vince: How can we set up this match between Taker and Triple H?
Creative: They could both stare at the sign.
Vince: I love it!
And I can see and hear all of that happening.. LMAO 😂😂
I mean that’s really all ya need. There’s so much history with those guys and then when you take into account that Taker retired Hunter’s BFF, there’s really no need to come up with some convoluted storyline to sell the match. Even their WM17 match didn’t have much story besides “you’re talking shit and I’m gonna kick your ass for it”.
That segment actually worked. But it *only* worked because it was those two men. Any other guys and the whole things is just a boring nothing that leave everybody confused.
But those two men were able to tell a story with *nothing* but body language and facial expressions.
9 years later, they will do the same thing for Cena vs Fiend
“It’s such good shit!”
The story has it that Sheamus had a choice to face either Daniel Bryan or Rey Mysterio at Mania but when Sheamus choose Bryan they ended up on the Preshow and then they fought in the opening match for Wrestlemania 28 and we all know what happened there
The match known as the Double Edged Sword
Wasn’t even the preshow it was the dark match
Then they were supposed to face each other at 30 they have some kind of obsession with DB vs Sheamus
I’m surprised Mysterio and Sheamus never had a feud or even a singles match in those days. Probably the two biggest upper midcard stars on their respective brands.
Don't know why Sheamus had to win the Rumble match in 2012 on hindsight when Jericho should've won
This show will always have a special place for me. My mother passed away that weekend, and so my friends invited my brother and I over to watch it to get our minds off of things. Really special to us

I liked Cody’s “Undashing” run with the Rip Hamilton mask & putting paper bags on people’s head.
Respect for knowing RIP Hamilton.
It just wasn’t handled correctly. WWE yet again given a great worker with a great character and fuck it up somehow.
Dashing Cody was one of my favorite gimmicks, the inverse was awesome as well. Love me some Cody Rhodes.
I hated that Pistons team
Didnt Lucius Harris wear it first?
Snooki, was the Semi-Main, let that sink in. Guess they had to give the crowd a chance to catch their breath, after that incredible Triple H/Undertaker match.
WWE was in rough shape during this period
That was the "cool down" match
Who?
@@ChrisWolff2013 when haven't they been in rough shape?
@@Off_Screen Well 2014 was a really good year.
Yeah, I'm 99% sure that the disfigurement was supposed to be in Cody's head (important to note that Rey "disfigured" him to end the narcissistic "Dashing" gimmick so that was a brilliant transition in storyline) and while he was initially kayfabe (*or not?) injured, it also caused him to think he's disfigured even after the injury healed. Weird commentary aside, Undashing Cody is still my favorite gimmick of his. His nasal droning voice also worked great for the character promos at the time.
I 4got y I liked Undashing was my fav, beside Brotherhood with Goldust prior to Stardust, was that nasal voice thing, and the paperbag thing
Ariurotl actually his nose was legitimately broken from the 619 but yea I agree with everything else you said
Ariurotl I liked Cody’s Undashing gimmick more than the Dashig gimmick cause it weirdly reminds me of Doctor Doom wearing a metal mask cause of one small scar on his handsome face.

Tennis season is already screwed, Roland Garros is postponed till AUTUMN and nobody's sure there will be Wimbledon this year.
The big problem with the Lawler-Cole Match was that it took waaaaaaaay too long (much like Bret vs Vince the year prior). Had they kept it to 5-7 minutes and Lawler beating Cole into a pulp with just 1 interference from Swagger and nearfall for Cole it would've been fine. This needed to be a minutely booked angle (like Vince vs Shane at X-Seven) instead of a match. But they went with booking an actual match and that had to fail.
Also cole had zero business winning
8:40 Cody: "Nice outfit, Rey. The image of that outfit would look great on my neck."

I loved the Undashing Cody Rhodes Gimmick
Same. I liked his Dashing gimmick more but I think that's only because I kept envisioning him winning the World Title with that gimmick and cutting a promo giving tips and eventually making the audience jealous by hoisting up the title and saying this makes him more dashing than everyone else. I was however thrilled to see the Undashing gimmick make an appearance in the Classic PPV review segment to hear Brian's thoughts on it and others in the comments. Cody definitely took it to a whole nother level when he came back "disfigured" with the way he came out not wanting anyone to look at him, with his promos and his theme was great too. Loved the eerie vibe his theme had as it sort of represented this is a man that's forever been changed.

The Rock returning was great but godamn the writing and booking of him during this period was sooo awkward. He felt out of place standing in the ring with guys who quite frankly didn't belong in there with him. Edge’s weird looking submission is an Inverted Sharpshooter according to the video games. Called the Edgeucator.
I always try to get people to tap out to that but failed every time lol
ChattGM I just hate how it’s a leg submission in the modern games. Other than that, it’s a good looking submission.
I am glad to see that I am not the only person that recognizes the "Edgeucator".
He had so many actual moves in his arsenal, but it's only known as "just another Spear".
I think if I remember, it was an old "Win by Submission" match at some PPV between Edge and either Kurt or Benoit. It was a storyline where he didn't have any submissions.
One of the greatest thing about that HHH Vs Undertaker match was how well Taker was selling after the match. A lot of people, myself included, really thought Taker had been legit injured during the match and that the submission finish was improvised to end the match. Undertaker being so banged up that he can't celebrate his victory and requiring to be carted out of the arena was a story perfectly executed.

Yes it is, and the post-match....where he sells hugely how bad Trips had hurt him with same music playing was seen here as well. Travesty this got edited off the Network, was one of the best parts of that match.
Miz's intro to WM27 was awesome and he should have another heel reign as champ
Unfortunately, it looks like it’s not going to happen again. Especially when you factor in how forgettable his run really was, the lackluster main event at WM 27 (just how bad the show was as a whole), and this image at 18:52.

On Smackdown they actually did say that it was in Cody's head. He was Dashing Cody Rhodes, his face was injured, it healed fine, but he flipped the fuck out because of it. I love how ppl look back and say that The Rock’s jokes about Cena weren’t that good as if everyone didn’t feel that way at the time. At least from 2005-2009 Cena was edgy and somewhat cool enough for teens and young adults, when he went into full Cenation mode for the PG era, that’s when he lost his edge.
I mean Cena stated himself that when they moved to PG it was very hard, creatively, for him to come up with good material. Though later in the decade tbh Cena found his stride and has put on some of the best promos probably in his whole career against guys like AJ Styles, Roman Reigns and Ambrose (Aka Jon Moxley)
idk I thought people turned on him when I did. In 2005 when rivaled Kurt Angle and all the fans cheered for him when he was the villain. WWE even made Daivari be his manager to get heat back. They even had him say he wanted to tap out Jesus and it didn't work. Then they turned him face and moved him to Smackdown. But the damage was done. Everyone saw the skill level gap and saw Cena get outclassed. The 3 moves of doom wasn't working any more.
Darrell Bales that’s when ppl started turning on him but by the time you get to 2008-09, Cena had most audiences against him and by 2010, it was permanent cause he was now Super Cena but 2005 is when it slowly began. Even Triple H was getting cheered against Cena in early 2006 and this is when he was heeling it up every week until the DX reunion.
...did you just refer to 2009 Cena as "edgy" ? That is like literal anti-edge if there ever was one. Cena always was there to appeal to kids as a main event guy it just got more blatant as time went on.
Cena got heat.
HHH used it and pushed it for the build.
That made it ‘cool’ to hate him.
This is a bad Mania no doubt. But a silver lining in this is Undertaker/HHH, CM Punk/Randy Orton, and Edge/Del Rio.

I was at this Wrestlemania. It most certainly was not the best. The greatest moment was Undertaker having a different intro and I was apart of the Cemetery cutaway at the end of the match
@Josh Peck's Dad Yea man I can’t help but to see bad wrestling for some reason. I was at the finger poke of doom too smh I’m gonna catch a break one day
Ten years after 17 ironic it was so ass 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The fact that the Snooki six man tag went on AFTER Taker/Tripple H match is a big reason why this is considered the bad mania
As much flack as it gets from people... I absolutely thought the HHH/Taker return "promo" was absolutely incredible. One of my favorites of this era.
No doubt. It was perfect..
Man I loved Dashing Cody Rhodes! I thought it was so, so, so, so cool when he'd come out and look in the mirror on the stage.
