Every wrestler who hit the mat got covered in it. Not only is covering the ring in powder a general danger for anyone trying to wrestle, but it also means Abdullah's back was covered in flammable material while he was getting pelted with sparks. Between that and Van Hammer's performance, it's a miracle no one got hurt.
The best thing about the secret identity of the Halloween Phantom is, during the replay Schiavone flat-out calls the neckbreaker the Rude Awakening. Long before the big reveal later in the show. "That move looks a lot like, if I can say this Jim, the Rude Awakening." 😂
Van Hammer being in the Misfits in Action reminds me of a funny anecdote of him having his “rank” in MIA changed from “Private Stash” to “Major Stash” because he didn’t like being a private.

But if you add that with his teammates 1/8 of a talisman and then multiply that by the 55% chance that the match would be bad then you got x+7=y percent chance that the talisman would be blue. And a blue talisman has a 4 and 3/2 chance of turning out to not work at all.

From what I can find, the Chamber of Horrors match was supposed to be Gigante, Sting, and the Steiners vs. Diamond Stud, Windham, One Man Gang, and Oz (lol.) Why Windham was on the heel side, I don't know. What that means is that there were four changes to the card, three of them coming from ONE MATCH.
From what I remember, Barry was booked on the heel team because the match was setup before his face turn. I remember Barry doing a promo trying to explain why he was on the heel team on an episode of Saturday night.

December 1991, I was 9 years, my family went to eat at a buffet restaurant and we ran into this dude that my dad worked with at the time, called Rodeo. I cant remember the reason, but in his car he had a VHS tape that had Halloween Havoc, Survivor Series and Tuesday in Texas on it. Since he knew I was a wrestling fan, he gave me the tape. (And I think also one that had SummerSlam and something else on it. Maybe Mania 8.) So I watched this show a billion times in my lifetime, roughly. I have never seen anyone say a good word about him, and almost all his decisions were the most blunderheaded imaginable. Just a fucking moron on a monumental scale
WWF(E) was the only company that didn't have that rule. The AWA used to have a rule banning guys from jumping off the top rope, so everyone did their stuff from the middle one.
Originally, the match was supposed to feature El Gigante, Sting, and the Steiner Brothers against Oz, the Diamond Studd, the One Man Gang, and Barry Windham. Cactus replaced Oz, Big Van Vader replaced Windham, and Abdullah replaced Gang. During the pre-show, Barry Windham was attacked by Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko and suffered a broken hand when they slammed his hand in a car door. One Man Gang was scheduled to take part in this match, but left WCW before the show.
I remember seeing this on PPV as a kid, this was my first one lol. When The Phantom wins the match, the commentators actually give it and say he put on the rude awakening for the win lol.
I just looked up the original lineup for the PPV, The heel team for Chamber of Horrors was originally Oz, Diamond Studd, One Man Gang, and Barry Windham. So a LOT must have changed from when they first announced the match.
The chamber of horrors match is one of the matches I went back & watched while relatively new to RUclips; because it was available. I had no sense of what the heck was happening & I never did until this review.
I'm only 50 seconds in, but I love how Brian launches in with "boy, I might regret doing this one" when he has the framed "I Wregret Nothing" picture right over his shoulder.
I just thought that around a month after this show I would be watching the undertaker beat hulk hogan for the WWF championship at survivor series 1991. No wonder I didn’t watch WCW around that time.
i want to say to that it was probably dust from the rigging, to get the chair to descend. They likely assembled the ring first, converted the arena seating, then put the chair in place, assembled the cage around it and then hoisted the chair up. Then probably just never cleaned the ring. (this is the same company that famously couldn't find mop buckets in a major fucking arena a few years later afterall). All that walking in the rafters to set the rigging probably knocked down a decades worth of dust, flaking paint, and oxydized iron down onto the mat.
I love how there was a sword in the ring and nobody bothered to even use it 😂🤣😂you’d think whoever is wielding the sword basically has control over the match lmao

In order to avoid breaking ratings, when it comes to bad matches I like using a special "Jenna/Sharmell" rating scale. I like to think it's unbreakable: 1) boring 2) bad 3) so bad it's good 4) so bad it's horrible 5) why did anybody think this was a good idea? (or Jenna vs Sharmell bad)

Some matches was cool.... I was fascinated by the Ron Simmons vs Luger match, , jimmy garvin vs Johnny b badd,, terry talor vs Richard Morton.... 9 year old me was like .. this PPV was fun ... the rest of the card was meh
December 1991, I was 9 years, my family went to eat at a buffet restaurant and we ran into this dude that my dad worked with at the time, called Rodeo. I cant remember the reason, but in his car he had a VHS tape that had Halloween Havoc, Survivor Series and Tuesday in Texas on it. Since he knew I was a wrestling fan, he gave me the tape. (And I think also one that had SummerSlam and something else on it. Maybe Mania 8.) So I watched this show a billion times in my lifetime, roughly. WWF(E) was the only company that didn't have that rule. The AWA used to have a rule banning guys from jumping off the top rope, so everyone did their stuff from the middle one.

Originally, the match was supposed to feature El Gigante, Sting, and the Steiner Brothers against Oz, the Diamond Studd, the One Man Gang, and Barry Windham. Cactus replaced Oz, Big Van Vader replaced Windham, and Abdullah replaced Gang. During the pre-show, Barry Windham was attacked by Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko and suffered a broken hand when they slammed his hand in a car door. One Man Gang was scheduled to take part in this match, but left WCW before the show.
I remember seeing this on PPV as a kid, this was my first one lol. When The Phantom wins the match, the commentators actually give it and say he put on the rude awakening for the win lol.
I'm gonna have nightmares about that slingshot suplex.

I just looked up the original lineup for the PPV, The heel team for Chamber of Horrors was originally Oz, Diamond Studd, One Man Gang, and Barry Windham. So a LOT must have changed from when they first announced the match.

The chamber of horrors match is one of the matches I went back & watched while relatively new to RUclips; because it was available. I had no sense of what the heck was happening & I never did until this review.
Watching Austin in WCW is a reminder that Austin was a really good technical worker before his neck injury.

I just thought that around a month after this show I would be watching the undertaker beat hulk hogan for the WWF championship at survivor series 1991. No wonder I didn’t watch WCW around that time.

The “dirt” on them in the cage is from the uncleaned, unpainted iron. It just smears on your hands, etc. WCW in 91... classy all the way.
i want to say to that it was probably dust from the rigging, to get the chair to descend. They likely assembled the ring first, converted the arena seating, then put the chair in place, assembled the cage around it and then hoisted the chair up. Then probably just never cleaned the ring. (this is the same company that famously couldn't find mop buckets in a major fucking arena a few years later afterall). All that walking in the rafters to set the rigging probably knocked down a decades worth of dust, flaking paint, and oxydized iron down onto the mat.

As a kid, I loved this show. Lol I watched it a ton. Me and my friend still make jokes about breaking people's hands in car doors. Lol Haven't seen it in years. Maybe I should go back and give it a watch.

As a kid, The best years of wcw. I loved this era. So much better watching wrestling through the eyes of a kid than an adult wrestling critic lol. The best part of Halloween was Halloween havoc.
In order to avoid breaking ratings, when it comes to bad matches I like using a special "Jenna/Sharmell" rating scale. I like to think it's unbreakable:
1) boring
2) bad
3) so bad it's good
4) so bad it's horrible
5) why did anybody think this was a good idea? (or Jenna vs Sharmell bad)
