I have one of the approved cats on my 05 SLUEV vehicle. My check engine light comes on and off ever since I got it. I do have the state bar ref approvals, but my mechanic says there is nothing I can do to get it to stop doing that aside from getting an OEM Cat put back on. I passed smog after the State Ref approval a couple years and i just took it in but it didnt pass because my mechanic reset the code just the day before testing and the smog place said it needs to be driven more. The problem is the light will come back on. It comes on for days and stays off for days. My mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the car just the light won't stop coming on. Is there anything I can do?
How do you know cars that have already had a label applied will be grandfathered in? There's not much info on the referee website. Thanks for the really informative videos!
I have an aftermarket installed that was put in last year but the owner never got it approved the shop simply passed it, i failed yesterday for visual its test group number is for ulev not sulev so will the ref deni this cat even though it was installed last year?
If it is a ULEV then you can install an aftermarket without needing a BAR label. It sounds like the part that was installed by the previous owner is simply the wrong one. I would find out what shop did it. If it’s a licensed shop with the Bureau of Automotive Repair they are responsible for switching it at their expense.
I bought an aftermarket converter last year and had it approved by the state ref. It went bad like 2 months ago. If i were to buy the same part once more will it be able to pass still or fail? It was under 400 dollars this aftermarket converter.

Once a car is labeled it’s grandfathered as long as it stays in the same configuration. It’s the same with a full engine swap that’s been labeled.

As long as it is the same part that is on your BAR label your good.

We use roll bar tubing to protect a car like yours. No need to buy anything, come on by!

No. You had to have the referee label the car prior to August 1st. Sorry, that’s a bummer.
