Pretty interesting stuff….My late Grandfather was a WW2 Merchant Marine and joined up at 16. He did North Atlantic convoys. He loved being at sea, being hunted by uboats not so much. I have his merchant seaman passport he carried during the war…..

So Im going to be applying for engine room. I'm a beginner. My uncle has been a chef for siu for many years. He's offered me a chance to work there so I'm taking it. Is everyone an apprentice at entry? Cause I did a little digging and on the site it said the siu has three departments. Steward, engine and deck. My cousin does deck, my uncle cooks. My cousin recommended me engine. So I had to ask how the entry level work?

Hey man idk how to DM you so I’ll just ask you here and hopefully you’ll be able to help me out with a question? Since the Covid and Omicron variant, how does shore leave work? Are you able to get shore leave on every port/stop or only some ports? Would be very helpful if you could make a short video to explaining the situation out on sea and the realities of what is currently going on. I heard there are difficulties swapping crews on certain ports and what usually takes place when a situation like that arises? Hopefully you’ll make a vid on this or just answer my questions here. I’m almost complete with my credentials and some insight of what’s going on will be greatly appreciated. ✌️
