This concert was part of the Monster of Rock concert series, it was a free concert and 500K tickets were handed out but people just kept coming. They stopped counting at 1.6 million and I've heard estimates of 1.8 million. This concert was just after the Soviet Union fell and this was the first taste of freedom and western culture they had experienced, thus the massive celebration. AC/DC, Pantera, The Black Crows, and Queensryche were also there. 53 people died during this concert, but they died happy and free.
не пиши глупостей. не было там не Queensryche, не 53 погибших
One of the greatest crowd videos ever. Can you imagine saying in the middle of that "Excuse me where are the restrooms"
Yeah I woulda wore a diaper 😆
😱
There was "no way out from the crowd". Either you stayed there... or if you would leave - will not get back. As the crowd was so huge and so many police and army present. We took our spots at 10 am. The concert started at 3 or 4 pm. And there were 3 acts before Metallica. So I guess they started playing at 7pm. That means we were stuck there at one place for 11 hours straight. LOL. And no toiliets )
@@vinograd74 thanks, incredible story 👍
@@vinograd74 for act before you mean PANTERA! 😮🔥🤘🏻
1.6 Million in that crowd! ROCK ON!!
I agree after cliff Jason is my fav. He was such a credit to metallica. Epic stage presence and his backing vocals were epic. Top bloke.
Gotta agree....Jason Newsted was one of the greatest "hype men" in metal. I hung my head when he left the band.
Like others are saying.....Creeping Death, Sad But True and Harvester Of Sorrow from this show are mind blowing. The energy level is off the charts.
If you want "One" live....check out the version from Seattle '89.
Imagine standing way in the back of that crowd. "Creeping Death" from this concert is even better. Pantera did an awesome gig there aswell. I remember Metallicas glory days too. Metallica and Guns N Roses was the shit in 90-91.
This is the worst Metallica song ever recorded
I was like 11/12 in 90/91 lol
Metallica in their prime is what every band wants to be they were untouchable.
this wasnt just for a metallica concert it was a festival called monsters of rock that featured multiple bands metallica being one of them but the main headliner that closed the show was AC/DC
And Metallica smoked them all
The only bands reacted to from this crazy concert are pantera & METALLICA, so what's that tell ya
@@patrickmelhorn793 🤘fuck yeah🤘
Metallica stole the show. Says something when no one else knows there where other bands there.
@@paulkysar6207 truth!🤘!
Agree with everything about Jason. He was a beast with his stage presence and vocals. Notice Jason walking around the catwalk above the stage at the end of Kirk's solo.
Love it that you love the song, go girl
i was serving in berlin at the time of this concert. so i saw the fall of the wall and the soviet union. couldnt well wasnt alloud to go to russia to see this concert. they stopped counting after 1.6 million. this was held at a soviet air base near moscow
Metallica is my all time favorite band. Check out creeping death from the same show. You will see the beast Jason Newsted singing one part of the song. Amazing.
In an interview Metallica lead singer James Hetfield was asked what it felt like to perform in front of that many people? He said imagine just getting out of a shower soaking wet and walking into a wall of electricity.
Ohh the goddess has mention your channel! Awesome Jen 😁🤘🏻
That was at Rockfest,1991 , 1.6 million people attended. Metallica was not the only band Pantera , Motley Crue, Black Crows , AC/DC , and others . The concert was held at a military airbase
I read somewhere a while back, that 1.6 million was where they stopped counting, and people just kept coming into Tushino Airfield in Moscow, Russia, September 28, 1991. A 1 square mile airfield, that held the Monsters Of Rock Concert. I believe the articular said that an "Estimated" 2.2 million was a more accurate count.
Great reaction. I would like it to be 1991 again also. I was 18. You surprised me with the spinal tap reference. You just got a new subscriber. 🇨🇦❤
QUE HERMOSAS PALABRAS..ABRAZO GIGANTE..YO SOY..GRACIAS TOTALES..JAMÁS OLVIDES QUE ERES UNA PERSONA MARAVILLOSA
Some people say: The Last visitors are still leaving for coming home!❤
Over 1 and a half million which is mindboggling to comprehend. I saw Metallica at a show with 52,000 people and it took me SEVEN HOURS to get out of the parking lot! There's probably still people trying to get out of that show in Moscow!
This is the best enter sandman reaction for me. Respect from Greece
They have always had great bassists, each have their own attributes. I loved Jason's energy and back up vocals.
Good afternoon Just Jen. I am so glad you picked this song and video by Metallica Enter Sandman in front of 1.6 million people and to this day it's still their best live show in history thank you so much.
A sea of humanity that size reminds me of another great concert…. AC/DC’s epic “Live @ River Plate”. Anyone familiar with or who have seen that concert will know what I mean. Yes, their crowd wasn’t as big but it was still huge & they rocked the shit out of the arena 🤘😝🤘🔥🔥🔥
Don’t forget, AC/DC closed this show with a 2 hour set with fireworks and all their props. The documentary the sponsor, Time Warner, released was titled “For those about to rock”. This song just gets the most RUclips video plays.
@@mikecoughlin4128… It would’ve been the “concert of all concerts” to attend but imagine the lineups for the bathrooms / portable toilets or even the traffic jams afterwards??? It would’ve been insane 🤪🤪🤪
This Monsters of Rock free concert is STILL in the World's Guinness Books of Records as the largest live performance ever, and Metallica has a second World Record from that year for being the only band to perform a major live performance (200K+ attendants) on all continents within a year.
And they're still touring in 2024, with the same energy !
If I didn’t have claustrophobia before attending that show, I would have it afterwards 😂
I love Metallica. I just wanna hug em I wanna hug em all.😂
This was only the 2nd foreign performer in a concert ever allowed in the USSR.
The Soviet Union would officially dissolve a few months later.
It was the Monsters of Rock tour which also included AC/DC, Black Crowes, Pantera, and the local band Electro Shock Therapy.
It was a free concert so no one was able to take official attendance which is why it doesn't have a world record.
Contrary to lore, there were NO deaths only a few dozen injuries.
You're awesome just Jen! It's my favorite song from Metallica.
It was Black Crowe’s, Pantera, AC/DC and Metallica. I’ve never seen anyone react to the AC/DC or Black Crowes from that day. They also had the Moscow Peace fest around that time. Had Jovi, Crue, OZZY, Scorpions, Skid Row , Gorky Park
"Battery" Live in Seattle 1989. Enough said.
Jen… Now THAT is a mosh pit!!! 🤘😝🤘🔥🔥🔥
JAZON WAS SIMPLY A BEAST ON STAGE & loved your commentary & loved this reaction!
The best way to enjoy this song is if you “gun” the volume loud enough to attract noise complaints from people in houses from at least a block in every direction… Complaints that you aren’t playing it loud enough!!! 🤘😝🎸🥁
1.600.000 people were @ that concert incredible band and concert
1991 I was 21 and my friend was there. Riding with train 21 hours there and back other 21 hours (because all plane tciket was sold from Estonia.
In August of 1991 I was 21 years old. If I remember correctly this was the first time an American band played a concert in Moscow since the fall of the USSR.
I got good news for you. According to many scientist the Omicron variant is the beginning of the endemic of SARS-coV-2 virus.
Official count 1.6 million, but rumors said there was a little bit more...
Some legends say some people are still on their way out to their cars and homes from that concert...
The most realistic analyse. Congrats mam
First time seeing your channel damn girl your foxy❤love you love metallica hope you have somemore of their videos.❤
the best live concert metal ever - ialways loved this song - but this is unreal
Your eyes are electric. Thumbs up. New Bassist is excellent
I’m totally team Jason
That concert took place during my junior year in high school. I wish I had just a dollar for every time I've heard people describe the crowd there, as a "sea of people", although that IS a VERY accurate description of it. I saw them twice during their "black album" tour, & they put on an amazing show at both concerts! Although I still love them after all these years, I'm gonna have to disagree with you, & say that that was one Metallica concert, that I'm glad I missed out on. WAAAAAY too crazy for me!!! 😲😲😲 Lol! 🤣 🤘😎
This is one of my favorite songs/ in 91 I was 24
1:50 It was the Metallica cover of The Ecstasy of Gold by Ennio Morricone. Morricone was a kickass italian music composer for famous "spaghetti western" movies and to this day when people imagine western they think of Morricone's The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Check out creeping death performance from this same concert it’s fire 🔥
1.6 mil people and I believe it was the biggest concert in history
- Goosebumps? After so many years?
- Always.
Wow!!! Вот это драйв! Золотые времена! Сейчас скучно
I saw them quite recently in Sweden
and just as good
🥰
I remember getting this album in eighth grade. Had a little boombox we'd sit out and listen to Metallica and Chili Peppers on our skateboards. You're one of the few reaction channels that remembers to mention one important thing "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The fall of the Soviet Union was WHY Metallic had a crowd that size. I believe it was Michael Jackson and Elton John that had concerts bigger with some insane amount of over four million (I could be off in quoting that number just know it was them). Russia was opened up and the people wanted everything about western culture they had been deprived of forever.
I was at that concert at the time.
It seemed that more than a million people were at that airfield
Absolutely Agreeable indeed,!!!sister.!!!
It’s crazy when you see the best band in the world and they exceed your expectations 🙀🤩❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
True Gods of Rock 🙌
Just got back into my car, this was a great concert.
Covid is not preventing a concert of this magnitude. This may never be repeated ever. This is the beginning of the end of true Rock Stars. Please tell me which ensemble of so called Rock Stars today could pull this off? This is old school raw talent as an example.
Minute 7:55 😮 Awesomeness
I'm born in '79, this was my/our music in school time, everyone knows and likes Metallica, all the boys also know AC/DC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and so on, but most of the girls also know and like Metallica, but they like other songs more, so the songs Sad but true, The Unvorgiven or Nothing else matters as ecample. I also stopped hearing them like you, but i stop after the Load album, i not really liked this album and around this time i start hearing other bands more. The S&M album was first new Metallica album i'd buy after many years.
I like your reaction!
Greetings to you from Vienna!
You were in your element here, girl!
They stopped counting at 1.6 million, best estimates are that I got up to around five, also the helicopters are flying around for the downdraft to cool down the crowd
like earned.... loved you reaction.... keep going
1,000,000 strong, no artist could ever do this in todays time
Amen!
My favorite part is Sleep 😴 With One 👁️ Open 👀
If you are looking for some extreme vocal talent, you need to check out the Australian music scene. There is talent galore that you probably have never heard of before. Iconic artists with the ability to reach the top of the World music scene. You should check out John Farnham, he does a cover version of The Beatles classic song Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra that will make you sit up and listen, he has a voice that can tackle just about all genres; referred to as The Voice in Australia, due to his signature song You're The Voice live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He has done duets with both Australian and International artists, one in particular is with Olivia Newton John; they sing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert, their performance is emotional, intriguing and spellbinding.
saw them in 88 in philadelphia with Kingdom Come, Scorpions, Dokken and Van Halen Monsters of Rock 12 hour show was great
I know the feeling..saw METALLICA LIVE in South Africa at the Coca Cola Colab Concerts...words can never capture that moment again....#Priceless..GOD I miss the 80's and 9'0's indeed?
it was actually 1.6 mil ppl there :P haha i was 6 back then :p no age shame alot of ppl wished they reach my age and they died way before. every year is a achievement.
Hi jen.. Love from Indonesia, don't forget to react to VoB (Voice of Baceprot) cover "Enter Sandman"by Metallica or "Killing in the Name" by Rage Againts The Machines in their concert in Rennes, France last year.
Actually 1,6 million people 🤘 !!! Intro-The estasy of gold, Ennio Morricone ( the good, the bad and the ugly )
Thx Jen for this amazing video😀😀
Cant rewind I'm a stagehand I've lost wages I help set up Metallica on my birthday went to the show plus work saw them 3times
I’m pretty sure that the set of black and white live footage where Pantera were performing over there (Cowboys From Hell, Primal Concrete Sledge, Domination) were from this same actual concert. It was in the same year, and I remember in June of 1991 when Pantera had just come back from Moscow from playing Monsters Of Rock, just before going back into the studio to record Vulgar.
1991 was a badass year!
You should react to Creeping Death Moscow as well...the Monsters of Rock tour in Moscow was otherworldly
Hey lady the bassist they have now has been with them twice as long as Jason was and he's a badass bassist you got to give him a chance my gosh!
Great stuff!
Greatest band in history!
I really like Tarja, and i found your channel through the react of "Phantom of the ópera", with Nightwish. So many tears... 😁
This reaction from Metallica, with you singing the whole song together, was really cool. Congratulations, greetings from Brazil !!
The official count of the crowd was 1.6 million people.
Pantera was in the same concert.. Check that.. 😊✌️❤️🤘🤘🤘
School bell rang in Romania we have next concerts this year : Judas Priest , Kiss + White Snake , David T + Dream Theatre , Iron Maiden , Sabaton , Nightwhish , i got ticketas for all of them and hopefully none will cancel. Rock on girl !!!
Judas Priest should come to Finland too, but if Faulkner's condition does not allow it I can live without that, as long as Richie gets ok...
1.6 million when they stopped counting and 50 died that day. Love your show.
Jason Newstead Replaced their original Bass player Clifford Lee Burton who was Crushed when their tour bus crashed and rolled over in Sweden in 1986.It was a very sad day for Metal fans worldwide.
Hi Jen. You must look at what Tommy Johanson is doing. He have just made a Disney-like version of Swedish Pagans, and tomorrow it look like he is doing the same to 82nd all the way. ::D
My favorite is evenecence
In Rio De Janeiro Rod Steward got around 5 million, you know...
I was at this concert. I was 17 years old
Adam Chance or just "Chance", Baritone, of Home Free did a collab with a husband and wife team called "The Hound + The Fox", and covered Johnny Cash's song "Hurt". It's not Acapella and they each play instruments. Due to the somber feeling and subject matter, they chose to do the song in a section of forest that had just burned.. it's a great cover.
1.6M people, AC/DC, Metallica, Pantera - Monsters of Rock not just one band
So don't sleep on Robert Trujillo. He's got GREAT stage presence.
Your reaction was by far the best one of all the reactions I've seen so far, good job on the history lesson there too. Music did bring people together back then when the world was in the worst of times and I think Metallica played the lead role in making that happen, and yeah covid is fucked and as is the world it's sickens me the way people are so selfish now but hopefully we'll get through this pandemic and like you said just live life again. God bless you ma'am. 1.6 million attended 8241 people died I think not sure. Check out creeping death and am i evil the same concert. Cheers
This was a show that changed Russia. The authorities feared that the entire cultural revolution would become actually dangerous for the dying regime.Note the official communist militia members in the crowd. Those bastards actually shot and killed a few people in the audience.I think you can also find an updated Creeping Death video from the same show - you will see a few shots of the crowd fighting the militia and the soldiers. It is pretty disturbing and uplifting, nothing can stop your love for metal. I know,I was a teenage metal fan growing up in eighties in Poland ,we were still occupied by the Soviet Union. Our weapon was rebellion and fucking heavy metal.
О да😁👍 я помню это.
Haha I stepped away from Flotsam and Jetsam when Jason left there ;)
The official video. My little sister used to be scared of his face.
Another Excellent Reaction Beautiful Woman!! Hello from New Hampshire!! 😘🤘❤
This concert was truly historically Epic. A veritable sea of people.
I was there in 1991 )) So, yeah - that was the biggest crowd I was ever "in" ) LOL
The Monsters of Rock Tour came at the request of the young people who were being rewarded for helping the government stop a military coup. They were asked what they want and they said an "American Rock Concert". Because up to that point, Western music was illegal.
Helicopters were needed to fan the crowed. 1.6M people all packed together would cause scary levels of co2 without property ventilation.
1.6 Million !
