    Watch the entire concert. There were several hard hitting bands at this concert. The soldiers were supposed to be security, but they realized the crowd did not pose a threat to the bands, so they started to enjoy the show themselves.

    You were right, the intro song (The Ecstasy of Gold) is from the The Good, The Bad and the Ugly soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. It has been Metallica's intro song right from the start, since 1983. They even did a cover version of it for a Morricone tribute album in 2007.

    For raw, insane energy I suggest the following
    Metallica - Creeping Death - live in Moscow
    Pantera - Domination (Moscow)
    Metallica - Battery (Seattle ‘89)
    Metallica - The Thing That’s Should Not Be (Seattle ‘89)
    Imagine being at this show. After years and years of political oppression, you can finally let loose. All that energy that you’ve had to keep secretly bottled up let out all in massive show. James had said in an interview that soldiers were beating attendees because they didn’t understand what that type of release was. And then after a while, they (the soldiers) got in on the action.
    Bassist Jason Newsted wasn’t sure if they even got paid for that show. But it was a good time.
    Generals command Armies. Metallica commanded an entire nation.

    It's a double meaning, depending on the story you parents told you about bed time. Some stories are about the sandman sprinkles sand in your eyes to make you sleepy. The other story is the sandman is the boogie man and will get you if you don't go to sleep. The song is obviously about that later story.

    • @brianeleighton
      @brianeleighton Год назад

      Actually, James Hetfield wrote the lyrics after his first child was born. He wrote it with the dark meanings because of his own fears that his child would die from SIDS. It is a syndrome where some babies just die in their sleep by stopping breathing.

    • @jbird4478
      @jbird4478 Год назад

      The sandman originally was one story with both sides. He would bring good dreams and nightmares. Like with most fairytales, the darker side of the story isn't being told in modern versions anymore. This song however, was written about sudden infant death syndrome, which is a nightmare for most new parents.

I do not understand what is so dangerous to you here? there was a 1,6 million people who came to celebrate and enjoy to this biggest ever rock bands music, and nobody died! if you check statistics of, lets say some 2 million people population town, and i am sure there will be more then one unnatural death every day. that fact make this festival perfectly safe.

    C&A, a tidbit of info, that you may not have known about this concert. This, like you said, was from the fall of the Soviet Union, yes. But, there is more to this story, than you most likely know. First of all, this concert was done in 91'. Also, there were other band's at this concert, including Ozzy Osbourne. There were 4 stage's there. Now, this concert is in the Guinness Book Of World Record's. Ok, now, to get back to the reason behind the size of the amount of people being there. Up until the collapse of the Soviet Union, unless a bootlegged tape of an album, was smuggled into the country, they were not allowed to listen to the Western world music. Yes, ALL of the Western type's of music, from rock, metal, rap, hip-hop & just about anything associated with the Western part of the world, was banned(Music wise, of course). And, shortly after the collapse, is when they got the band's to go there, for a 3 or 4 day concert(Might have been a full week, been a while since I read the story behind the concert and all of the band's, who were there). Also, AC/DC was there, as well. But, it started out, that you had to have a concert ticket, to get in there. But, it got to the point, that not even the military could restrain them from getting in. So, the concert promoter's & military personnel finally agreed to open it to everyone(Hence, why you even see military guy's havin a great time). So, virtually everyone in Moscow got the word, that it was open for all, so they all ended up showing up, in wave's, to get the experience, that they were all deprived of, for far too long. Now, even though there were at least 1.6M people there, the fatalities and injured number's, were super low, with I believe, around 20(17, if I remember correctly) who died, while there was around 65 injured, from what I remember reading. So, compared to the amount of people there, those are a super low number, for both death's and injured. And, if you look closely at the crowd, you will even see the grandparent's dancin around, as well...
    Band member's at this concert:
    James Hetfield: lead vocals & rhythm guitar
    Kirk Hammett: lead guitar
    Jason Newsted: bass guitar(Predecessor of Cliff Burton, then Dave Mustaine(Lead vocal's of Megadeth, after he left Metallica and formed Megadeth) & Ron McGovney, later replaced by Robert Trujillo)
    Lars Ulrich: drum's

    Not only was this the people’s celebration… it was their reward for helping to defeat the coup attempt by hardliner communists. Up until then, American rock was ILLEGAL and could only be listened to in secret on illegal bootleg tapes.
    After the CIVILIAN YOUTH helped defeat the coup, they were asked what they wanted as a reward for “helping to save us all”. They said: “We want American rock! We want METALLICA!” So the government flew Metallica and other bands to Moscow, cleared a military airstrip and had a free concert… the FIRST rock concert ever.
    They stopped counting at 1.6 million. It’s estimated that the actually attendance was about 2.5 million people. Metallica: rock GODS. 🇺🇸 🇷🇺
