Well, you can access heavy 1 on achlys MK VIII in combo. It always follows after light 3, and can be used (in fact, it SHOULD be used) in an inline combo for a cleave
It's Heavy 1, Light 2 (45 degree right to left), Light 3, repeat. Thank you so much for that. I accidentally dropped into a Hi5 last night with the Achlys. That would have helped me much. EDIT: There is always SOMETHING that I completely overlook.
criminally underrated content. just started playing the game recently and lots of things are not explained very well so i appreciate all the effort that goes into demonstrating all of the stats and blessings. please keep up the good work
A neat interaction with on-hit perks is that Zealot's bleed damage ticks will count as chained weapon hits. Landing a crit will get all of your on-hit perks an autostacking effect for the duration of the bleed. This works for Decimator as long as you land the first swing, it's a great way to make that perk truly powerful with very little downside vs Headtaker.
I currently have an Antax on my Zealot that is 376 base with super good stat roll, 20% maniac and 25% flak and Decimator 3 + Headtaker 4. Once I get Decimator 4 I'll be swapping that in for its weaker version. It's not as crazy as a BM/Shred 4 one would be for Zealot, but it feels really good in the regular Damnation games I've played. I am very much interested in getting a good BM/Shred Rashad on him! This is a great video. You do good work.
I ran Rashad (pre fix for weak spot registration) for a long time without BM. If they change cleave for Combat Axe with BM, I’m going with exactly what you have.
Thank you for that. I'm always looking to improve. This one took me a while, but I messed around with Adobe Premiere for a lot of that time trying different things.
Excellent and detailed as always. Make me think that it could be an idea to make a video on the animation property one of those day. I talk about vanguard, relentless, strikedown, etc... Most of people read the short description under the name of the weapon but fail to realize that what matter is the property attached to every move. As shown with the MK8, having an horizontal attack (H1) look good for horde, but with a strikedown property (or so i suspect) you'll be lucky if it cleave through one target.
That is a confusing thing. Like the Latrine Shovel Light 3. In game it says it’s a wide sweep damaging many enemies. It hits 2 Groaners. Edit: I have a feeling they were rushed and did some copy/paste stuff here and there as place holders and just never went back to fix it.
@@cashcrop_ It is true indeed, that I saw a few inconsistency, like the one you mentioned or the Deimos force sword that discribe the light attacks as strikedown - 3x assassin, while I would say it's assassin and 3x strikedown, and on same weapon the H2 is said to be strikedown, while I would dscribe it as assassin. Hope they'll "correct" that in the future for consistency and comprehension.
I went over all your videos on your channel. Amazing info, thank you for going over attack patterns and all the details you provided! I know your channel is fairly new but I think you're one of the best source of data for Darktide. You have my sub!
Thank you! Like you said, I am new to this. I looked at my first video (late February) a few days ago. I feel pretty good about my progress. Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching!
Very thorough as always. So having analyzed all 3 axes, what would you say are the "roles" or specialties of each? Seems like perhaps: Antax = better cleave damage, longer-range special Rashad = good anti-crowd moveset, fast-ish attacks (?) - well rounded Achlys = focused on single targets. Likely to headshot, fast attack speed (somehow - worse penetration?) - unique lateral heavy opener (for use with brutal momentum?)
Unless there is a change to Brutal Momentum allowing Combat Axe to damage almost everything in front of it, there is good move set (Rashad/Antax), and poor move set (Achlys). Pretend BM doesn’t exist for Combat Axe: Antax slightly less single-target anti-armor weapon Rashad anti-armor single target good for Carapace and Flak Achlys anti-armor single-target good Carapace and Flak (maybe not as good as Rashad), but Heavy 1 sweep does a lot of Unyielding and come from right to left. Facing an Ogryn Gunner, you’re coming in from its left. Its right side is where the Carapace is. So, anti-gunner? EDIT: I misremembered. Heavy 1 has high Unarmored damage and terrible Unyielding compared to Heavy 2 and 3 (Heavy 1 and 2 for Rashad/Antax). Achlys needs help. I accidentally ran it tonight on Hi 5. It's like I was punishing myself.
To follow up, there is a pinned comment by CaptainGrumpy addressing an attack combo that I overlooked concerning the Achlys. With Brutal Momentum, using H1, L2, L3 repeat combo, the damage to Unarmored, Infested, and Flak for horde management should technically be better than Antax/Rashad.
Kind of you. I've watched this so many times for QC I'm over it, and I still see things I can't take back. Learn as you go, I guess. Thanks for watching.
Achlys heavy animations are unique and don't chain as fast as stock animations despite dealing same damage on the 2nd and 3rd. The heavy 1 is also bad against Carapace and Unyielding, and the bonus damage to Unarmored/Infested/Flak/Maniac is too low for it to stand out but it can one-shot two trash mobs I guess? The lights are also the same damage. Rashad has the stock heavy animations that are faster and the same damage. If the Achlys heavys chained properly and were all the same damage as the first heavy, it would stand out on it's own as an anti-personnel axe.
I have an idea for small tests I run that get cut from the final videos. I’ve considered releasing some as just bare bones tests (very little editing). This is something that would definitely fit the bill for such a video. Thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching.
Thank you. This video is a bit out of date. There have been some changes to Combat Axes lately. I plan to create videos for each of the variants to bring this up to date.
Agree with all except needing high stat on cleave targets on Antax simply because BM exists. Granted BM makes Antax irrelevant compared to the other simply because what it does better than the others is cleave. But if all have maxed BM they are just as good at it. Antax is still good, just not as strong as the others, and of course, Rashad stat-wise trumps all.
Combat Axes are tough to roll for sure. They need pretty much everything, especially the Rashad and Achlys having Finesse. I'm curious to see what becomes of Brutal Momentum in the future. It is so strong it's pretty much required.
Roger that. I have recently acquired an Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB Cardioid Dynamic Microphone. This video is the last one for me utilizing my headset. I'm hoping it works out. It can't be any worse. I appreciate your candid comment.
So then assuming you've got brutal momentum is the Rashad the best? I've always roller antax because of the cleave but is the extra cleave damage worth it if you've got BM anyways?
Man i wish axes would get some form of brutal momentum even without the blessing. Ive never liked how axes since vt have no cleaves, and now theres a blessing that bascially removes its one downside? I hate that. Giving axes a tiny form of brutal momentum across the board wouldnt make them op, just make them more enjoyable and free up build crafting!
@@cashcrop_ also may i ask why one would want to use the achlys? I must have missed on what makes it a contender, but from the sound of it not only does it have a weaker modifier on finesse? Not a deal breaker but the moveset seems even more awkward on the light chains esp paired with BM?
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 That is a very good question. Heavy 1 has a better damage profile for Unarmored, Infested, Flak, and Maniacs than the other Heavy Attacks. That's about all I know. Two Light attacks to the head is more damage than 1 Heavy 1 and I can just spam it. Light Attacks, Heavy 2 and 3 (Heavy 1 and 2 for Antax/Rashad), and Special have the same damage profiles across the axes. The only difference with the Specials is the Antax (more stagger and less damage). If they upped the damage for light attacks for the Achlys against Carapace by a decent amount (much bigger than the Mk IV cleaver stabs), then it at least would have a purpose for the attack pattern being weaker.
@@cashcrop_ thanks for the comprehensive reply btw. There must be a resource that show the basic profile of all these weapons, no? The ingame UI is awful for this because all modifiers on the inspected weapon is shown, so its hard to draw a clear comparison. As youve probably surmised im not a big fan of axes in this game, mostly because their base profile leaves a lot to be desired (thanks to no small part of this percentage modifier BS theyve taken a liking to), in terms of break points and ease of use.
It’s on my list, and I’ll likely do them together. It’s kinda tough to do, since the three available have different Blessings available and some of them are only T4 Blessings. I don’t have all of them. I’ll navigate that as I get into it. Chain weapons is a contender for my next video, for sure. For now, I’m working on a video that’s gotten a bit bigger than I intended.
