  • This instructional DIY video shows under two minutes how to remove the airbag and steering wheel off a BMW X3 (E83). This model is a 2005 but relates to older and newer versions too.
I then covered the facing with carbon fibre wrap to give it a more modern look and to hide the wear and tear on the steering wheel. I've skimmed over this but for a more detailed video, click the link below by Bimmiancom.
Re-installing is common sense, replacing the connectors and screws etc in reverse order.
If I can do it...so can you!

Nice use of drone footage! I think the carbon wrap is a great alternative to buying a new cover. I opted to just buy a new cover for the OEM look.

Do you know can I put a steering wheel from my 07 X3 on my 05? Both 3.0, the 05 has a flat ugly wheel want to update it, but don’t know if the connectors will be the same for the cruise/volume/stereo

Under center nut.... trick? Hold the wheel with your knees? I am struggling. It will not loosen and all it does is turn the wheel when I try to turn the nut. 16mm socket, yes?

Sorry, I can't remember what size it was. My steering wheel needed a bit of force initially and then the nut moved quite freely. If the steering wheel moves, use one hand on the wheel and the other on the spanner.

Needs impact. Dont increase force slowly. Just impact witch wrench and it will loose
