    Great video! I'm very tempted to buy one of these covers for my Lancer, mainly to protect the wheel beneath it, but also for the look/feel although I was unsure about the whole installation. Now I know how it's done, I'm pretty confident that i can do it right if I take my time

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  7 дней назад +1

      Im positive that you can get it done. Must definitely take your time and will have great results. Separate a couple of hours, this project was time consuming, but we'll worth it. You'll understand every time you get in to your car and grab that Steering wheel. Pay close attention to always keeping the line tight on every stitch. Pull enough to keep it tight but don't over do it to the Steering Wheel Cover breaks. Pay close attention to that part. Good luck with your project.
      Let me know how it goes 💪

    Will the glue stickers in this cover , damage the original leather of the steering wheel ?!

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  2 года назад

      No it shouldn’t. It’s just double sided tape that can easily be cleaned with goo gone.
      But if the original steering wheel is cracking or if it’s pealing from been “old” then pretty much anything you put in there is not good.
      In case you are concerned, you can just put some of the double sided tape in the back of the steering wheel itself, at 12, 3, 6, and 9. Just to hold it in place.

    Thank you for this video. It took me 4 hours total, on an Audi A4. Very happy with the result. The hardest part was not the stichting but to put the alcantara in the small slots of the plastics, and make it smooth. But the sewing pulled almost all wrinkless away, so satisfying!

    Also seems nutty having a on center basically gimmicky Socalled said strip on a BASE model bimmer wheel, like your really going to use said wheel strip in Walmarts rat race parking lot or micky dees drive through to make sure you don't side swipe said pickup window shelf and rip off the mirror. You can blame it on not looking or thinking like you're supposed to instead of said wheel strip. Said strip was made for the pansy who can figure out when the outside front wheels are at dead center and cried about making it easier in a hurry up situation , Still mostly never used either on track or said parking lots and drive through junk food lanes.

    Stupidly annoying and super distracting having the ignition on & the dash lights and confirmed idiot lights in my pov when it's supposed to a helpful Instructional amateur video, I completely noticed right away this is not going to be a helpful video at all when I seen other things I don't want to see , Plus why sit there when doing something like this when you don't need the ignition on at all ? And No, not at all. Taking the Steering Wheel out actually makes it more confortable. If you feel confident taking it out, you can watch some tv while sawing the Steering Wheel 😅
      Its definitely time consuming, but the results are great. Just make sure you are dead center, and take your time aligning everything up before sawing. Other than that you'll be good.

    I did mine this weekend. I used a way less tape. Just at the back and only on joining parts steering wheel. Getting the cover of the tape is annoying. Apart from dropping my needle and it landed somewhere unreachable (luckily they delivered two needles) and my thread sometimes getting into a knot (I guess thread too long and friction when pulling it through made it tangle up). After 4 or 5 hours it was done. Not perfect like you did it here, but it sits and feels good.

    Did you cut the excess on the back of the steering wheel??

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  3 года назад

      Yes. The idea after you finish sewing your section is to tie a knot as close as you can to your last sew tread, then you cut the excess. Make sure to tie the knot a minimum of 3 to 4 times, one on top of the other. You want to create a little ball so the tread can not go back (or get unsewed). You can see this part in minute 14:07

    Would it be easier to remove the trim rather than tuck it under? And did the cover come with the tape?

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  3 года назад +3

      Removing the trim will take a lot more time. In order to remove the steering wheel trim properly, the air bag needs to come out. And for the air bag to come out you need to wait about an hour after unplugging the battery, before disconnecting the power source for the airbag power. This way you wont cause any shirt circuit. A short circuit even though is rare can cause your air bag to deploy. So its better to be safe. I have seen a guy removing the trim without removing the air bag, but this way you may brake the tabs that told it. Yet it is not as simple to remove. You will need to wrestle your way, risking braking something.
      And yes, the steering wheel cover comes with the double sided tape.
      Hope that helps bro 👍

      Its called a trim removal tool.
      The one you see in the video came with the Steering Wheel Cover.
      You can also find a set of the trim removal tool on harbor freight for like $6 but i don't know if they sell just one.
      I also posted a link for a good professional trim set that you can get on Amazon.
      You can find some pretty cheap ones there too, but from what i heard is that they are to thin and bad quality. But if this is the only thing you will be working on the car then it can be an option.

      Honestly it took me way more time than i anticipated since i had to record at the same time. But I would say It should take you roughly 2 to 3 hours. A nice amount of time will go in to prepping your steering wheel cover before you star sewing.
      Just take your time. After you get the first couple of stitches in, the rest will be much smoother.

    Is the double sided tape necessary or does it also minimise the wrinkles? Let me rephrase the question. 😅 Is it even possible to get the same result without using double sided tape? I'm also wondering if using tape will be noticed on touch or visually through the leather cover. Great video 🎉

    If you want to take it off, how do you go about removing the residue from the tape?

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  3 года назад

      If you have any residue, just use Goo Gone.
      It will work wonders.

      Thanks bro. You gonna love it. I always get a smile when I get in the car and I see it; definitely worth it. Just take your time, this is fairly simple mod, that looks great but requires patience.

      @@CrazyCarMods did you have problems getting the front and back seam to meet, I've got 3mm gap which I can't seem to pull any closer, I can only assume my msport steering wheel is too fat or I'm not pulling tight enough?

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  3 года назад +1

      The only place where i notice a very small space between the front and the back was on the curve of the steering wheel spoke but by sawing it all close you can't see it. The rest is close together. You just gotta make sure the front and the back touch together when sticking it with the tape, because if you try to pull it afterwards you may brake the thread.

    Does it add a noticeable amount of thickness to the wheel?

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  3 года назад +5

      Thanks man 👍
      It does add some thickness, but it doesn't feel overwhelming thick.
      The steering wheel feels a little beefier. Picture a skinny girl and then one with a little more meat in the thighs. Its just a better grip 😂

    So do the back pieces just stay flapping or do they tuck in somewhere?

    • @milovan8565
      @milovan8565 2 года назад

      I was wondering the same. Maybe the double-sided tape holds it in place? I'd like to try this install without using the tape, as I have a heated steering wheel and would worry about the tape adhesive ruining the original leather steering wheel.

      It's just the sewing that takes time, but once you get the hang of it, it will get much easier.
