France didn't make him a chess player. and he had become a citizen of France only because of his abilities in chess which was flourished in Iran, otherwise it would be very hard to even get a visa. So I don't see how it's a personal choice.

Only because he is "French" and it's not his concern that what is going on in there! It sounds ridiculous. It's a bad excuse. Those youngsters that put their life on line for freedom are not any less than Alireza. They killed Kyan a ten years old kid that could be the next math genius or a great physicist.
