@@ariadnagijon2690 sorry for late answer but no, I changed my plans. I actually visited Paris like three years ago. it is too big of a city for me, and I'm a small town girl at heart :D but I'm sure you'll find your way to Paris if it's still your dream!!

I'm moving to Paris in 6 months for school and I'm responsible for figuring everything out and it's been driving me nuts. Thank you so much for this video! It helps a lot
I'm already half-French and I lived in Paris for 7 months last year just to work and stuff so it was most likely easier for me because I already spoke French and am already a citizen, but the French bureaucracy definitely sucks...That said I think for foreigners (especially Americans) it can be easily overwhelming or disappointing when you don't have the right paperwork etc. Bisous!!
This video scares me to be an adult

Hi Emily, congrats for this great video about the thing which is necessary before moving Paris!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot for helping us, big dreamers❤❤🙌🙌
Emily!! Thank you so so so much for this video! I'm moving to paris at the end of this week for my degree- I'm also a brit so alot of this stuff has been incredibly useful! I'm writing it all down haha :)) I hope you enjoyed your stay there! I'm going to look at your blog for more information about living in Paris. Thank youu!!!

Thank you dear. Informative.
Hey emili
Please make a video about your daily expense as a student in paris and thankyou for this video it's helpful
Hey Emily,
I totally agree with you, finding a place to live in Paris can be extremely tricky and you definitively have to be careful of the many scams.
La CAF is a really good thing to help you pay your rent but as you said, they can drive you crazy sometimes (and I'm being polite here so I won't use any other word to describe them but you get the idea haha).
It's lovely to hear you speak French a little bit. Oh and your accent is great Em!
xx
Yes, there are so many tricky parts but it was definitely worth it! Thank you haha, I can still hear how foreign my accent sounds - it just never comes out quite right! I'm working on it though, I'm still thinking about trying to throw in a bit more French into another video some time ;) Thank you so much for your comments and support xxx
Is La Caf for Europeans only?
And here I am a 22 yo female college student living in a 32 foot long camper, granted it does have full sized amenities (fridge, normal (not camper) toilet, normal (not camper) queen mattress, flat screen tv etc etc. lol not to mention it’s behind my parents house so I’m technically still living at home but in my own “apartment” which is the best if both worlds lol. I have GAD as well as social anxiety and panic attacks so while my college campus is close enough to commute I choose to do my work online. I live in a rural Midwest America and so I’m pretty reclusive (by my own intent) and enjoy just having cuddly nights in watching tv with my dog especially now that it’s winter in the Midwest and we get temps down into the negatives in Fahrenheit so it’s cozy to stay in with the heat on enjoying time alone while also knowing my parents are literally right outside my door lol
Really good vidéo . ..
I'm Parisian and I loved the video )
I've just found out I'll be going to dijon for a year as a language teaching assistant. This video was so useful, I used the caf calculator and i'm elidgable for about 300 euros. Thanks so much for sharing!

I'm an American and I have been wanting to go to London for the longest time, it sounds like a lot of work to get there and live there and knowing how to adjust.
If it was easy then everyone would do it ;) the good news is the living abroad is one of the most formative experiences you will ever do. If you can dream it, you can do it. I promise you that you're capable - you've just got to think outside the box and take the necessary steps to achieve it :)
Thanks for this!!! I am moving to France in 3 weeks!! trying to know as much as I can before I arrive.

This is so helpful. Thank you so much! I'm researching AUP for uni.
+Carmie Basnight I'm glad you found it helpful! I've got another video which is more about the logistics of studying abroad which might be helpful once you're a bit further into planning: ruclips.net/video/8zOqxfGSNk0/видео.html
Good luck with it all! :)
+Carmie Basnight , I spent 5 years living in Paris, and actually knew quite a few people from AUP, and i mean this with the utmost respect, people at AUP are snobs, with it costing around 29,000 eur for international students, the school is filled with people from the states, and mostly other rich countries who send their kids to Paris for english language training, everyone made sure that you knew how much money their family had and sometimes it got uncomfortable. I think AUP might just be an exception though , ive heard good things about other schools
Why did you stop making videos?
I love this video
Hi Emily, I also watched your Italy youtube video. From your experience, which long stay visa is harder to apply (I mean the process) - France or Italy. Also, from your experience living in France and Italy, which do you prefer? Thank you. I am just wondering whether to apply to France or Italy for the long term. Thank you.
thank you so much for this its helpful

I wanna move Bc I'm from Paris
I am an American that has had a life long goal of living in France, ideally in the south. How hard is it for American citizens to migrate? I would eventually like to become a citizen of France, it is where my heart is.
Haha meeeen, with the elections now it's the time every french want to leave and it's now you guy want to come
Why do they wanna leave? 😮
You're welcome in France.
and it's probably not what you expect
cocobass well nobody speaks english so don't do it unless you speak fluently french
Merci
Trés bien! Merci beaucoup. it would be interesting to hear you comparing your experiences in France and in Italy. Intuitively, I feel that you are more Italian by nature.
Thanks :D And that's is such a good idea! It's interesting you say that, because I definitely was drawn more to Padova (where I now live in Italy) than Paris, but both experiences were so specific that it's difficult to choose one over the other :D
Emily, I am considerably older than you and I lived abroad at the time it was not so usual. There was no you tube or cellular phones, but MUCH else. I am not saying what is the truth, time will tell you, but somehow intuitively I feel that Italy is your destiny, in one way or another (in a good way, of course). Of course, no person can really tell you, but time will tell you. Take care, in your journeys. Also, beware: I just read A Long Walk Home by Judith Tebbutt. The Sunday Times bestseller. It´s good to think and see good in the world, but one must also look at the bad in order to understand that there are villains.
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/somalia/11450794/Kenyan-sentenced-to-death-over-Judith-Tebbutt-pirate-kidnap-could-be-freed-thanks-to-British-data-protection-laws.html
The zones are now abolished, just so you know ;)
I went to Paris over a month ago, and there was still zones
yes there are still zones but exept for the single ticket (one by one) it's now same prices for every pass navigo wherever you have to go.
I am planning on moving to Paris possibly summer of next year and have tons of questions. Do I need some type of visa to live there or a work permit to work? How does this all work? If I am from the US am I still able to get the EH insurance card? Does everyone typically travel by train or do people use cars more? Will I need to get some sort of ID when I go over there for identification or do I just need a passport for identification? When I am going to open a bank account do I already need to have a place I live at or can that be determined later on?
I'm from the UK so I'm not an expert on how to do this if you're American, but you will need a work visa if you're planning on coming out here to work. The EHIC card is given to EU citizens to receive health care in other EU states, so it's not something you would receive after moving here. You would need some other type of health insurance, I believe. The train/car thing depends, but as a major city, the most common way to move around is the metro (or bus/tram). For ID I think your passport should be enough at the start, but you will need the right visas to stay in the country for longer/work. And usually to open a bank account in France I think you need your address already, as I mentioned in the video I had to bring along proof of my address (declaration d'hebergement).
I'm spending three months
Hi, I am not moving to Paris ... but looking to stay a month or two... are bed and breakfasts my best bet? Or what would you recommend, please? thank you! (for part of the time I will be at the Vintage Hostel to save money! It is lovely and I have stayed there before...!)
I would still search Facebook groups for any sublets, or AirBnB: they often do a discount when you stay for a month. Hope this helps!
I am from India 🇮🇳
I wanna come to France 🇫🇷
Probably a stupid question, but what the heck: if that European health insurance card gave you access to free health care, then why did you have to pay? Or is it only to refund afterward?
+Roy R. Not a stupid question :) I believe it's refund afterwards, but there was a lot of confusion for me that day, so I forgot to show them my health card until they'd already done a lot of the processing for my appointment . Moral of the story: always flash the health card first!
You have to pay and you are refund after

Hi I will be moving to Paris next month, my work place is at center 8th arrondissement, as it is a very expensive city I m wondering which zone area I shall prefer for renting apartment ?
what is the procedure to rent an apartment? Thanks
Hi Xativa! If I were you I would do some more research about apartments around the area. I talk about it a bit in this video ruclips.net/video/8zOqxfGSNk0/видео.html . And google maps is a good tool to see what your commute would be like. I personally worked in the 8th and lived in the 15th arrondissement. Good luck with your move! :)
Thanks Emily for prompt response
Subscribing you for your willingness to help others
Thanks :)
hi, what kind of job did you get that stressed you so?
+Celestea Deanes I was working in corporate PR. It can be a stressful job anyway, but there were lots of other factors which made me want to leave. Sometimes these things happen, but I'm so glad I moved to somewhere where I had a much better experience :)
How Is the students life in France?? Plz reply
It’s an expensive city to be a student in, but there’s lots to see and do for lots of price ranges. I was an intern so didn’t officially study while I was in Paris. But like any big city, I think it’s very varied - I’m sure there are more videos that go further into detail about that side of things than I do :)
Thanks for your helpful information and one kindly request please speak slowly
I have two question for you, if you have some time to answer.
1) How expensive is it to live in Paris? I am Canadian and live in a place that is quite expensive (rent wise) but I am just wondering how you find rent, food, clothing, shopping, etc.
2) How easy is it to find work with little-to-no French. Obviously I will try to learn as fast as I can but upon moving there I might not know much.
:)
+Hillsdale Hi! I paid about 800 euros/month for rent for a room in 15th arrondissement, but I believe I was quite lucky. I'd recommend doing some research on a few FB pages to see what other people pay for rent.
Obviously everyone has different tastes so it's impossible to give you an exact figure, but it is a pretty expensive city to live in. It was over a year ago now so I can't remember prices of things like groceries exactly, but like anywhere you can find cheaper places to shop and more expensive ones.
I went to France already speaking French pretty well and had a job lined up beforehand, so it's hard for me to answer that one. I'd say if you're already a native English speaker you would find it easier to find jobs that that is an advantage. I was doing internships though, so finding a normal job contract could be a different ball game. Good luck, though! It's not easy, but keep researching and taking the steps you need to accomplish your goal :)
Emily Stoker Thanks! :)
haha im in the same boat (Canadian very little french) as a culinary student i want to learn french cooking in france. look up myexplore its run by the government :p my chef told me about it, im thinking of signing up for it
grimr34p I did the explore program 3 years ago. Its offered across Canada but not in France unfortunately.
+Emily Stoker I can tell you you're in a bad situation, you pay too much for your room!
It still depends of the surface you have, I agree, but you are located in an expensive place of Paris and that can be quite a big deal.
Two of my French friends who live in a flat by themselves (obviously because their parents don't work or live in Paris) pay about 350 euros/month for a decent studio, that they share, consider doing a "colocation" (litteraly co-rental) with one of your friends or with someone you trust :)
Very good British accent.
Great stuff here and what an amazing adventure you're on. Left you a like and a subscribe and look forward to stopping by your channel from time to time to check out new content! Thanks ;)
10 EUR a day?! what?!
:D Good video.
I'm visiting paris solo in a few weeks. any advice
+Jessica Tan Stay away from the 18th district at night, and try to learn french as soon as possible =)
Be aware of pickpockets, I know it sounds obvious but there are so so many and often don't even look like the 'conventional' or stereotypical pickpockets!
+Jessica Tan
Don't go to the Goutte d'Or.
The pickpockets are often romanians girls who have 12/13 years old. Then yes they don't look like tipical pickpocket.
Did you get a good price on an apartment and bills? In safe neighborhood.
In a safe neighborhood? And did you have a hard time finding a job?
The apartment was very expensive, but I was in the 15th arrondissement (a good, safe neighbourhood). I was lucky and didn't have a hard time finding a job really. I secured one before I left, but I ended up leaving that one and found another within a week. Although these were internships, and I know for a fact that not everyone is as lucky as I was in that respect.
Emily Stoker any good reliable real estate around there like legit real estate or tips on dos and donts when renting an apartment?
I think I cover the main tips I can offer in the video, just general common sense when it comes to avoiding scams because there are so many con artists in the city. There will be plenty of estate agents (although that will mean agency fees, too) but unfortunately I don't know of any in particular, sorry! I talk a bit more about that and finding accommodation in my video about going on a year abroad/erasmus so maybe that would help :)
ruclips.net/video/8zOqxfGSNk0/видео.html Here's that video I mentioned :)
moving to European cities is such a nightmare haha but so worth it. Living in Madrid means filing in documents after documents after documents...

Why don't they have a taxicab card. Hey Paris is French....I enjoyed every single visit. Don't english speakers speak French too...and the internationals....yah, we know how metro areas work. The Country Side and South and Even North is amazing....yes we know what you mean.
paris small city, wut ?!
aeroaa2 same!!
actualy the official city is small!
but if you count the suburbs cities around paris..yess it a big city
but the official paris is quite small
if you dont count the suburbs, france actually is quite small
Yes!
PARIS : 105 km²
LONDRES : 1 572 km²
ROME : 1 285 km²
BERLIN : 891 km²
BUT THE WHOLE AREA called ÎLE-DE-FRANCE (administratively spealink) is 12 012 km²
But Per Sey, Paris is a small city.
"Paris is a fairly small city."
Uhm what
M B it is.
It is I've walked east to west many times it takes 2hrs max
why do tou talk so fast? some kind of hurry ????
Hi Emily,
I lived in France last year, more on the West coast (Pornichet), and not as a student, but working full-time.
Luckily I speak French fluently, and I love languages, but they are crucial in ANY country.
Everytime I moved to another country, I learned the local language and it made my life so much easier.
I"m very happy to have experienced many countries to work and live in, but OOOOOH YES, Every country has its challenges!
The key is to turn them into opportunities. :)
And learn from others, just like you are sharing your story.
Great stuff Emily!
Rachel
Expattoinpat.com
+Rachel Smets Wow! Yes, learning the language makes such a difference. I wouldn't say that I'm fluent yet, but that's the dream. I'm still working on it :)
What's been your favourite country to live in so far?
Hi Emily,
Without a doubt, I will say Spain.
LOVELY sunshine, people are open, I love the language and food, and their afternoon siesta is really embedded in the culture :)
I did learn to have ''patience'' there, as many things as document registration and so on, can take a LONG time to get done....
But at the same time it taught me to relax and if something is not done today then it will be done ''manana'' LOL
Only crucial point and big challenge is economically, it's not easy to find jobs there.....or else I would return TOMORROW.
:)
Rachel
Ah thank you so much for replying! Patience is an important skill to learn... I will have to visit Spain some time soon, everybody has such wonderful things to say about it! Thank you for sharing :)
hi Rachel, I'm doing some investigation because I want to do the Au Pair program in Paris, but i don't speak the language, I only speak English and my first language wich is Spanish, so, how you it took you to learn french? just thinking about it it's so exciting!
How exciting! I had actually studied French at university before I went, so I already spoke quite a bit. BUT even if you don't speak any French I don't think you should let that put you off. There are lots of language swap evenings around the city. If you teach yourself some basics at home, that should be enough to get you started once you arrive. Many people around the city also have a basic knowledge of English, so that will help you with day to day things until you get a hang of it. And since Spanish is your first language, that will definitely help, as the two languages have lots of similarities.
I'm excited for you, good luck with planning it! :)
Tolerable on 2x speed
Rarely are there people (women) on You Tube who are this refined and physically attractive. You are like Botticelli's Venus.
Don't be fooled. There are two parts of Paris. The "Touristy Paris" and the "Real Paris".
Brits are so nice
What !!! ?? They ruled many countries for many years
You were earning € 11 a day??? Wth, you were being exploited.
I don't remember which part of the video I say this in (I made it 4 years ago now), but I think I'm referring to what I was being paid as an intern. In France there's a minimum wage even for interns, which I think is pretty progressive :) obviously if this had been a full-time "real" job in Paris then I would agree.
Is number one that Paris is the most filthy city in Europe?
you are so cute emily ... i think i like you
Fuck off creep.
CAF is the worst thing ever.
