  • Temu Art Supplies Rubbish or Bargain | Temu Watercolor Brushes Review
    I know this is quite a long video and I also have to admit I am not what you would call a watercolour expert. However I have been testing and experimenting watercolours and watercolour brushes for about 5 years now. Over that period I have purchased a few different watercolour brushes, none of them in the two or three hundred pound range, but decent quality nonetheless. I explain all this in the video, just to provide a bit of context regarding comparison of the Temu Watercolor Brushes
    I have also added a written review of my experience buying from Temu and the quality of the products I purchased. Follow the link below for information on pricing, cost of the products overall and individually. In the written review I display how much all items cost under the deal and how much they would cost buying them individually.
    Finally I would like to apologise for the mistake I made in this video but I was too tired to redo the video all over again so I went ahead with it, which I know is not very professional. On the test where I show how much certain brushes absorb and hold the water, as I lift the brush out of the water, the brush is slightly out of frame for a second or two. I apologise guys and will make sure this doesn't happen again. I have a long way to go with regards to videography, I am neither a video expert nor am I an entertainer, but I am trying my best to improve on all fronts, not just for you guys but for me as well, I hope it will improve new and older viewers experience.

    I know so many RUclips Content creators can on occasions some across as fake when they say how much their followers mean to them. Of course this is the case with some of them, but since becoming welcomed and embraced by this wonderful art community, I hand on heart can tell you that so many creators within this community mean exactly what they say. There seems to be a love and understanding among people of the art community that is really quite extraordinary.
    Prior to becoming an art content creator on RUclips, my life was at a very bleak stage, I had served 13 years in the British Army and after a serious spinal injury rendering me disabled, I was medically retired. My life spiralled out of control, I didn't want to be here, I had my wonderful wife and children to provide for and wasn't able to do this, nor was I able to be a soldier. On advice from my eldest daughter, I picked up and started to use some of her art supplies; and the rest, as they say, was history.
    Starting this channel and becoming part of this wonderful community helped me to build my life back up to where I wanted it to be. Here I am almost 9 years into my RUclips journey, trying to deliver accurate, honest and transparent reviews on the expensive and not so expensive art supplies we all love to and need to use. However, the love and support I have received from this community over those years has been heartwarming and at times emotionally overwhelming, simply due to the fact I have never experienced such warmth from those outside my family. I truly feel blessed and fortunate beyond words can describe.
    Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart for your warmth, love and support.

    Thank you for the review ❤. It's was really helpful.
    I constantly buy from temu because I cant find some of the art supplies locally. So far, my overall experience was good with temu. Most of the items I bought worked really well or were okay to use. Every package was delivered on time and I had no issue with my info being leaked or used, but this was my personal experience. I cant speak for others really.

    I think comparing natural and synthetic brushes are like apples and oranges or cats and dogs. They are 2 different things made for 2 behaviors and 2 different results. Yes, some perfer one over the other, but I think that comes down your style and painting preferences rather than the performance of the brush its self. Yes, naturals are great for holding water, but they don't have any spring. Which can be challenging. I love a synthetic watercolor brush. Especially the ones made to mimic natural. Best of both worlds without the unlikable qualities or the price tag of natural.

      I agree, I don’t think I phrased the video very well, I haven’t really made clear my objective. I wasn’t really trying to compare brush types in the video, I wanted to simply showcase the quality of the products I purchased of which I have to say, stupidly had no idea what brush hair type they were before buying them. I just grabbed a few items purely for the purpose of testing their quality and testing the safety of ordering from a relative new and unknown platform to us in the West.
      I made the video about three times in the end as each video I messed up and could see it was turning into a comparison video which was not my intention at all. The only reason I showcased the brushes I already own, was to simply show the type of quality or lack there of I’m used to, showing what past knowledge in brushes I have to compare the Temu brushes with. We live and learn 😂😂

      I think you did a great job Harry & I enjoyed your take on the "buying experience". I did not see it as a comparison per se but more what the experience & the safety of your personal data, for example using your credit card etc. I do like my Derwent water brushes for things like inktense & my Albrecht Druher as a base in colouring books but I have bought liners for intricate & difficult spots. I find it easier to control the water & less is best in my books. I do use brushes, like rounds in my sketch books though. Thank you so much for your take on brushes. I wonder if there will ever be a standardization in brush sizes as I find that enormously confusing when trying to purchase brushes as quite frankly in photographs online as it can get down right confusing.
      Thanks for this video, I found it quite helpful. Much love & *Virtual hugs* from a sweltering hot Perth Western Australia xxx

    Harry you should try one or two Rosemary and Co brushes, they cover a whole range of brush hair and their uses, oil, watercolour and acrylic. Their synthetic brushes are excellent quality and don’t break the bank for cost. They also do the higher end range brushes such as sable and Kosinski sable

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 месяца назад +3

      I’ll definitely take a look but I always thought they were quite expensive. I’ll have a look. I love the synthetic brushes I already own, if I purchased a real sable or squirrel brush, my daughters if they found out, would hang me out to dry 😂😂😂. Especially our youngest Amelia, who has a Rabbit called Miss Honey and two hamsters. But my wife and I keep telling Amelia, the rabbit chews one more phone cable and it’s rabbit stew 🥘 for supper 😂😂. We are absolutely only joking, we love Miss Honey to death, in fact I done a drawing of her on the channel. Just getting in the disclaimer before I have SWAT descending upon me.

      They do really great synthetic brushes that mimic real hair brushes. Their red dot line is great. Obviously the larger the brush the more expensive, but the smaller brushes are very reasonable. A size 6 pointed round red dot brush (they mimic sable) cost £5.55. You do have post and packaging to add but they are hand made brushes and a short detail brush is £2.50. Their golden synthetic size 6 is £3.75. They are an on-line shop and well worth a look. I don’t use real hair brushes either don’t like to think that an animal has died for me to get a brush. Please give Miss Honey lots of hugs from me.

    Hullo Harry, Brushes can be so personal! I can say synthetic fibers have come so far and there are brands that most people cannot tell the difference between the natural hair VS. synthetic hair brushes! The Princeton Aqua Elite line of brushes are so close to Kolinsky natural hair brushes as good as the just released New York Central Oasis Synthetic Brushes! Hair falling out and hair left on your paper is a bad or telling point against a brush! If the varnish starts pealing off or the Ferule is loose is another bad sign. I wash all of my brushes when I first get them home and I use Masters Brush soap. This is when any loose hair comes out, if it continues this is NOT good! I believe you did a fine job presenting these brushes Thanks Harry!

      Yeah you see when I told my daughter I was going to do this for a review as subscribers had asked me in the past if I’d used Temu, she was dead against it. I asked her why and she said the same thing you said.
      But I still had to do it so I could find out for myself what was going on and then I would be able to deliver a factual account the next time I’m asked.
      But it would unfortunately seem I have not experienced any of the horror stories I’ve heard. I say unfortunately because I am really torn about my reply to such a question in the future. I can’t lie and make stuff up, my experience is exactly what I explained in the video but laid out in more detail in the written review. But my worry is, by replying to a question on Temu, saying my experience was okay, someone could use Temu and have a terrible experience.

    My wife works as a coach at an organization for people with a handicap. They are making paper cut cards which are sold. They buy quite some of their tools and supplies at Temu. Most of it is very good. I got curious, so she ordered me some Boahong cotton paper (for an absurd low price) and some white pens for highlights. The paper is really great and the pens are working very well. The price I paid didn't reflect the quality at all, it's way better quality than the price suggests.

    My husband and I have been buying from Temu for quite a while now. As you, I bought some art supplies to see how good the products are. When it comes to paint, I can probably find better value at any local craft store, not sure I would ever venture off into getting watercolors or acrylics. I wouldn’t even consider the oil paint. However, just about any brush I got was very good, n9 matter how cheap or expensive it was. All the brushes I got are exactly what I expected. I’ve also ordered a ton of fountain pens and fountain pen inks. The pens were all fantastic with the exception of one or two. The inks were all relatively good. I bought fine markers and loved them. I also got some pencils and graphite sticks, and they all worked well. I bought a bunch of notebooks and they were all top notch quality. All Crafting supplies are absolutely amazing. I also got myself a very nice magnifying glass with a light that was very cheap and extremely well made. When I got it I bought myself another one to take to my classroom. To be honest the only thing I was not impressed with were some of the clothes, there were a couple of misses, but since the price was so ridiculously low I did not care so much.

    Harry, thank you so much for your sincere review. I want to buy a set of brushes on Temu, but, there are so many brushes! And these brushes looks good, even though, they do not have the necessary quality, I say this because of the hair loss, among other things, but, after seeing this review, I can choose something good, and cheap. I understand the loss hair, is bad, and when the ferrule came out its bad too, and the brushes that not retained so much water are not good for watercolors, but...not all the time we can buy a set of quality brushes from a certain brand, but I can see some brushes that I'm interested. And I think, you have many good brushes there from Temu. Thank you very much for that, and for always being so humble in your opinions. Sending hugs from Puerto Rico🇵🇷

Not sure how long of a time they adjust for. If I had to guess it would be for the time between ordering and receiving the order? All in all when I had received the $4 credit for the missing item and the delay credit and the price adjust credits, I had $19 in credits to the next order.@@TheArtGearGuide

    Honestly, I am concerned about working conditions in Chinese manufacturing, but... unless one exclusively buys high end products (that are still manufactured in Europe or North America), then buying Chinese manufactured goods - whether art materials, or more widely - is all but unavoidable. I see no reason to boycott a Chinese-branded-and-manufactured product sold on Temu, but not a Western-branded-but-Chinese-manufactured product sold on the largest online retailer's site, or even your local independent art shop.
    What I certainly wouldn't be doing is buying products that are supposedly Western-branded on Temu - or other China-based online retail sites - and expecting the genuine article. Giorgione certainly fly a bit close to the wind with some of their products looking like Faber-Castell's
    I hope you get a chance to do some plein air painting in the countryside soon!

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately Suzy this is more than likely true and an element of truth in it, but I hope they are truthful in their reporting and fair. There are such activities in Apple, Samsung, Nike, Amazon have terrible working conditions for their employees and that is happening on the shores of the U.K. and US. Any company practicing such disgusting activities should be shut down but the reason it will never happen is because both the US and U.K. governments are making too much money in the way of back handers.
      Before all of our industry, clothing, call centres, food, technology was outsourced to third world countries only because of cheap labour, there was strict regulations in place including Unions. But the big companies didn’t like it when they would suggest no toilet breaks for employees and the unions would push back. So to avoid such belligerent refusal to be treated like dirt, the companies all just moved employment overseas. Now I’m not sure about the US, but I know the U.K. Government could have made like very difficult for these companies in the form of taxes, but they didn’t because the government benefited as well. The only people who never benefited was the employees in these countries. But for consumers in the U.K. and US, we could boycott such companies, but that would be incredibly limiting to us as to where we could buy products. The level of corruption on all levels from so many companies is insane. I wish there was something that we could all do as a collective, but there isn’t. In order for a boycott to work, you need pretty much every customer

    At 17:23 you're using the wrong kind of brush for scrubbing, it should be a much stiffer brush.
    If you want to just lift out gently it's fine but scrubbing will quickly ruin your brush.
    I personally don't like really soft brushes which this one seems to be ( maybe squirrel hair?) but it does seem to hold a lot of water in the belly of the brush.
    Yes but snap back, flexibily, water retention, how fine a line can that brush do? There's a lot to review, and squirrel and sable brushes are different. Just the fact that it's losing hair is a no go for me.
