Lyrics
Burst into heaven
Kiss in the cotton clouds
Arctic sheets and fields of wheat
I can't stop coming down
Your shrunken head
Looking down on me above
Send me home like an elephant stone
To smash my dream of love
Dreaming till the sun goes down
And night turns into day
Rooms are empty I've got plenty
You could move in right away
Seems like there's a hole
In my dreams
In my dreams
In my dreams
Down through the heavens
Choke on the cotton clouds
Arctic sheets and fields of wheat
I can't stop coming down
Your shrunken head
Looking down on me above
Send me home like an elephant stone
To smash my dream of love
Didn't your bed and bookshelf go
And run run run away
These four walls saw the rise and fall
And your midnight getaway
Seems like there's a hole
In my dreams
Or so it seems
Yet nothing means anything
Anymore
this is not just a song but a portal to a different dimension and time
true
yes, totally!!
It sure is.. I hear this song no matter how old I will ever be listening to it... I'll always be 15 getting mashed and sciving school.. Lol
juan altredo I really visualise the lyrics in this song which is not common with me. This is my current favourite song of theirs. It’s 2020! Why am I responding to a 4 year old comment?
@@mindrolling24We have to keep them alive, but in a normal world they wouldn't need any help cause they were as great as The Beatles.
reni is one of most underrated rock drummer
Not by anybody whose heard, 'Elephant Stone.'
I'm a huge fan of The Who and it was amazing to find out that Reni was asked by Pete Townshend to play but he turned down the offer to concentrate on the Stone Roses. That decision definitely paid off big time.
@@grahamcairney6054that’s amazing i never knew this means he truly valued what stone Roses was doing
The guitar intro from this performance's first 20 seconds is so gentle and blissful.
Is this intro part of a song?
mix yes
3:00 - that drumming with the bass = HEAVEN
Proper drum 'n' bass
Songs like this make you escape from reality, genuinely surreal
Squire is doing an amazing job with his wah wah pedal
DIPS Official so true haha
i always wondered how he got that sound can you explain bit more plz
paul barnett it's just a pedal and as he pushes it up and down it makes that sound. He also does it in time with his strumming which also adds to the sound.
Did he use a bit of overdrive?
This is my favorite Stone Roses song.
I once ate a pile of hash one night. When we got home we put this on and at one point I saw Brown get out the telly and start dancing on top of it lol
When I was 18 (1990 ) in the Philippines. I was dancing, doing air guitar and base and air drums to this but never understanding any of the words due to the overwhelming English accent that I was not used to. I still do now , everyday, Long live the Stone Roses!
23 year old from the Philippines here. Mabuhay mga Pinoy fans ng British Rock.
That rhythm section was immense
Happy memories of being 17 years old on holiday in Italy wearing flared denim dungarees, a baggy top, bucket hat and maroon Wallabees. Great way to embarrass the family and friends, but I'd do it all over again lol. Brilliant track.
Cheers from an Italian Stone Roses lover in 2022
We all know Ian can't really sing but I think that just makes it better 😍
He's deaf as fk. He could sing.
He was high on E in this concert, check out early 1989 waterfall where tony wilson introduced them at the start, his singing is good there and in the studio in 2012.
@@Pazuzu82 sorry to disappoint but 2012 rehearsal is heavily autotuned
I know this is a suuuuuuuuuuuper old comment, but I honestly think of Ian could sing well the band would have gone even further.
I know the Roses are very famous, but if Ian had a really good voice (which he doesn’t), the band could have been even better
@@danielrnuttall I'm a massive massive stone roses fan and I always thought this, what would happen if Ian can actually sing, maybe the roses will deserve the credit they deserve, because they're
One of the best bands of all time.
Reni is the glue that kept this band going.a great bass player and guitarist and frontman.but his drumming was on a different level
seen the roses at spike island , absolutely amazing , they r the kings of madchester and always will b.
Most would beg to differ since another Manchester band shortly after them hit far greater heights, but no doubt- the Roses were very good for sure.
That one album was as close to a perfect album as i've ever seen. It's a real shame the band didn't blow up globally like U2 and The Police.
They refused all access by media and were media-reclusive; wouldn't do any interviews at all. Their choice and one can well understand why but that is the effect, the cost
Ian Brown never sold out .
Legend .
Lost alot of original old school fans with his conspiracy nutjob outbursts though. I don't mean newish fans, I mean us old ones.
@@glenndouglas8822I suppose he remained the punk and you went mainstream
@@boogiejed5485 He as not remained punk, I myself who was an original raver/baggy and my friends are still true to our real selves. Unfortunately browny new crowd are drunk yobbo's who were never on the original scene. Browny as become a paranoid smoker. I bet you are a new fan, bet you, you were not an original roses lad. I can feel it. Were you around those fantastic days in the late 80s 😂🤣😂🤣
@@boogiejed5485 Sorry to reply again, browny remained punk???? He is singing along to a backing track to bunch of drunks 😂🤣 yeah he stayed punk!!
@@glenndouglas8822 yeah I got into the roses in 91, so you could say I was a little late to the party
John Squire never ceases to amaze me.
Part of me wishes they just kept a camera on Reni for this whole song.
Yes Yes Yes! Reni-cam definitely! He's amazing to watch on drums. Plus better lighting would've helped! It's so dark when the lights flash off! Having said that about a Reni cam, I would've also liked to have a camera trained on Squire & Mani's guitars so I could learn how they played their guitar & bass parts live. But I must admit Reni makes the Roses for me, but it does help having great songs by Squire/Brown, but I'm sure Reni had a great creative input too and Mani probably too. They're all great muscians. We're so lucky they existed!
I would pay good money to watch that.
I can’t believe this never even made the chart when it originally come out in October 1988 absolute madness
It was normal they was in a indie label although they used to drop music occasionally
Taylor Swift advert before Elephant. Fuck sake RUclips
The intro, outro and everything inbetween is perfection ...
Amazing
I genuinely think this is the best guitar tone I’ve ever heard. On record or live
Reni just puts on a tour de force here. Drum fills he lays down are fantastic.
At Heaton Park, I was so ready for this song and I got talking to a lad with a Reni hat on with an Elephant Stone badge on it and an Elephant stone t-shirt...We were both pumped for hearing this.......
Awkward when they didn't sing it...
OH god the thought of the roses ever making music together again makes me so happy. Please get back together!!!!!!!!
Today is the eve before the new football season - tomorrow begins the nine-months of bombing up and down the M1, M6, M4 and hundreds of other roads, pursuing a group of blokes around the country who happen to kick a ball well. It's ridiculous, it's expensive, and it's the fucking bees-knees.
This tune never fails to build me up before a game.
IIIIN MY DREEEAMMMSSSS
The acoustics of the empress ballroom put John's guitar into the stratosphere. With it's curved balconies and the height of the room it creates a swirling whirlwind of reverb you just can't believe.
Yeah, I was there, brilliant sound. The video of it though was fuckin awful...
@@glenndouglas8822 wow dude, I was 14 and I'm from Newcastle, acid, the Roses and the Mondays were my life. Every Saturday was trip day, no Matter what, pocket money for a strawberry 🍓£5 for a far out brilliant day every weekend. I never got to see the Roses, but I did see the Mondays at Whitley bay ice rink in 1990.
The Blackpool video and the G- mex video were the only live life lines to our bands, the younguz had. Without them they'd be no documentation of it today 🕉️
@@Alligator6002 Fair play to you though mate, fair play ✌️ I got in empress through side door, free of charge ha ha proper good weekend 🙌👍
@@glenndouglas8822 if only I'd been a couple of year's older 🍓🕉️
one of the best bands in the world up there with bands like the who and the rolling stone "send my in elegant stone"
Not to mention Reni on the drums, just unreal
Reni best drummer last 25years
Best version of this song
Real music
That split second at 2:36 when Ian hits the right note...
2:58 = Gold! 😆
good old days
Fuck I love this band so much. I’m jealous to everyone who got to witness this live.
I did bro. I did twice. Life has been never the same since then. God bless you
The played that song when I see them in the Glasgow Green 15/6/13 one of the best concert I attend to
This is the tune of all tunes 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧💓
Roll on the summer!!
BLACKPOOL 89 WAS THE ROSES IN THERE FUKIN PRIME MATE ;)!!
I love the stone roses 😀
I always thought that John Squire was the back bone of this group, that was until Ian Brown went solo and he released some amazing tracks!
Wow, the band were so tight then. John Squire driving the energy with his sublime playing.
Reni is the best drummer. It all started to fall apart after he left.
BEST BAND IN THE WORLD. PERIODT.
It's always fun playing this song with guitar
Pure magic, really hope they play this at Finsbury Park, roll on June 8th!
such a good song
The fact I’ll never get to see them live...
CRUK mky wish I could, would be so good
The drums!!! The f@@king drums!!! X
Tone deaf..Manc Muppet...still one of the the most inspirational bands of our life time...Reni top darts
Never let this die🤘
This is the stone roses.
I wish I was there 🖤🖤🖤
14 yrs and yet.... Nearly 3k likes.. Imagine if RUclips was born in '89... Fookin Tune!!!! Different times.. Sharks and Koreans rule.. Fook That .. We Remember!!
How does this not have 25,000 views people ?!?!?
Wow, i was just searching for elephant penis and came across this, fasinating!
So good, so so good.
Reni=best drummer ever
Mani=best bassist ever
Squire=one of the best lead guitarists
Brown=one of the best singers
The stone roses=best band ever
+craigster2001 I am sorry, but Brown can't sing shit. But the rest is absolutely true!
+Kenneth McCracken That's because Ian couldn't hear himself over John's Fender twin amp.
You have the makings of a song there.......Now don't be sad 'Cause three out of four ain't bad...
They aren the best in music but they can do me feel.
I would say that Ian Browns vocals aren't up to best standard and mani's bass playing isn't really the best in the world but the rest is very true
Can't wait to see them again on 30th June.
looking forward to the new album in 2015 ROSES!!
i would do anything to have been around back then
adore this song..
one of my favs
Brown was class back in those days
The stones roses lo mejor forever
Absolute beautiful bit of drum and bass 2:49 - 3:00
I'm crying
nice gigss
@eastendthug360 there's one thats exactly the same as this now, same line up and everything... Greatest ressurection since Jesus
does he always wear the same t shirt ?
@PrimalStones you are completely right!
Reni and John make this band fellas. They all come together and make the great music but John Squire was the main writer.
And lets be honest here, a generic sounding drummer could have never made these songs classic and unique.
Reni is the definitive unique ingredient in this band. End of story.
Don't under-estimate Mani - sublime bassist. Takes two to make a perfect rhythm section.
In a lot of ways Reni seems to be leader or the main artistic force who drives all this.
You're deluded and living in a fucking different reality pal! Reni's fucking awesome..obviously you know nothing about drumming and percussion
@@markdennison6345 Reni heartbeat.
Reni is the best. Great drum and bass bit at 3:00
fucking magic, every time
Do you remember how massive these guys were/are. Ian I'm begging you put it back together
i'm jealous of those who have tickets hope its awesome :D
1st of July, see you there!
this is for wee jimmy christie, still got your record!!!!!!!!
Ian Brown is the coolest man alive.
Him and Johnny Marr
Yeah!
excellent
@sonofTelstar sounds like my SR moment too mate! about same time, outside Borders in Ann Arbor Michigan! Same reaction here!
Elephant !
by far the best mancunian band
@muttilo how doesnt it have 100 million!:D
@muttilo
One year ago, and you're almost right. Hopefully by next year; this (artwork) will get the attention it truly deserves. Which petite numbers can not describe.
the stone roses are the stopping point for anyone who claims madchester fanship, it doesnt get any better than this
elephant stone is on my email list for canadian music week, march 9 to 13, 2011, toronto ontario canada, blogging your videos ;)
Might aswell make the first comment about them reforming today.. :D
Roses are better than the smiths, oasis, happy Mondays
sorry not the smiths mate.
meoldgemima even the Inspiral Carpets in his better time.
Joe William Sorry too, not oasis :v
Roses just have one a great album
+Joe William talent wise, better than happy mondays and Oasis. But The Smiths are better imo. So are Oasis, tbh.
GreenDayRancid oasis? you gotta be fuckin kidding..
Interesting how a crowd of, on average, 20 years younger creates a bit more energy and atmosphere.
i have these guys on a par with the beatles, they are that good
2019 'm a last fan in south korea
wookipop우키팝 wow finally someone from Asia
not anymore
Ian's vocals...
You can't hate them but you f**kin love them. Nowadays he would have no chance (still better than one direction lol) but I am glad The Roses are back, UK music scene needs a kick up the arse. Too many talentless talent shows!
best song?
@MrJuggernutter Totally agree but we're getting good quality. Just watched Resurrection. It was brilliant.
fuck me reni lad gwan absolute tears when I saw this sorta thing live. one love
so proud to be a mancuncian
