As much as I adore the artwork and magic system, what really gets me about this project is the names. Words like “Ornata” and “Myriadism” strike this perfect balance of utilizing existing language to sound familiar and inform the audience of their meaning, while still sounding natural and realistic instead of artificial and forced. Loved the video, looking forward to whatever comes next!
The gold in an Ornata's body being so potently charged surely has to do with how magic starts with life-energy, no? I mean, it's been inside the Ornata since birth, passively absorbing just a _little_ life energy off the top 24/7! In fact, that would explain the thinner/grey hair and deep scars turning golden. Even goldblight could be explained as the gold getting "overcharged" after so long being constantly suffused with life energy, having to grow to fit more.
@@TheSmolBrit Thanks! I was going to go to university for cellular biology and medicine, but decided last minute that programming was more my thing -- This project is super interesting to me on the former front - and the programmer in me sees all the pretty art and goes "man I wish I could do that" lol I recently did some more thinking on the subject, and I think the golden scarring may have an explanation that ties nicely into my goldblight hypothesis. To make a few assumptions - 1. Since blood cells are created primarily in bone marrow, and an Ornata's golden bones seem to be directly analogous to regular bones, there are likely golden versions of the various blood cells in all Ornata bloodstreams - just microscopic flecks of gold going about their blood cell-analog business. 2. When someone is healing from an injury, their body increases blood flow to the affected area - I'd assume an Ornata's body would do the exact same. 3. Finally, healing surely has a lot of life-energy involved when compared to the ambient levels in other areas of an otherwise healthy body. I don't think anyone would doubt that. With all those puzzle pieces on the table, it stands to reason that wounds would collect these golden flecks as the blood delivers nutrients to the damaged tissues in order to help with repairs. The higher amount of life energy may even act like a very weak gold magnet, preventing them from carrying on with the rest of bloodflow. As the wound gathers gold, the higher levels of ambient life energy in the area over a long period might stimulate the gold to form a sort of protective coating over the scar. It would also make sense that an Ornata's wounds likely close a tiny bit faster because of this - though the cost in life energy likely slows down the overall healing process a bit. To tie all that into my prior goldblight hypothesis - as the malignant bones grow, it would damage tissues. This would result in the Ornata's body trying to heal those tissues, and in turn further fueling the destruction. I can imagine scholars in the not-so-distant future of Gold and Bone putting these pieces together, and producing a form of alchemical medicine that can recreate that protective barrier to quickly staunch bleeding - at least temporarily. Like a magical band-aid!
@@TheKd8lvtas an absolutely leman, the process you hypothesized for goldblight sounds similar to the formation of cancer which is interesting considering most the chemicals used in awakening would probably be considered carcinogenic or at least incredibly harmful to the human body. Also i don’t see a concrete reason that the gold bones would create gold blood cells. i think that’d lead to deep scars even on parts of the body distant from the natural gold to develop these gold plated scars which we haven’t seen (yet).
GOLD AND BOOOONEEEEE .OOH maybe their gold bones are more magically potent because of how light and undense the gold is. As dense gold (althought its natural catalyst) is flawed as the flow of magic is inhibited by said density. Just a thought I LOVE THIS MAGIC SYSTEM SO MUCJ.
I really like the fact that sometimes the golden pigments on the skin don't reflect the true gold quantity/area of the skeleton below and can imagine a lot of stories revolving around people lying about having more gold in their bones because of the pigmented area or people assumed to have less gold in their bones based on the size of the pigmented area. I was also wondering, has there ever been a case where the entire skeleton was found to be gold?
I like how relatively non-flashy the Ornata's abilities are. Instead of someone shooting fireballs or lifting boulders with their mind, you get a walking magical power cut, or the kid from The Sixth Sense if he were born into better circumstances.
This along with rust and trenches are probably my favorite world building projects ever and every time i see something from either i just have a need to create a ttrpg/dnd homebrew campaign around it

Question? Are elemental magics possible in aome ornata? Such as someone with gold at their fingertips being able to summon flames, gold at their throats being able to steal the breath from others, or ornata with bare golden feet being able to cause quakes or ride the very stone as if it were a steed? My mind is positivly buzzing with ideas. A person with a golden jaw bone might be able to not be affected by poisons, or be able to speak enchanting persuasive words. I have to admit, a character formed in my head while watching this video. No name, only a visual. A man who walks a full body an head taller than the people around him. His limbs lengthened to match, and on the skin of his limbs and his spine, there is not a patch of golden skin, but a thin trace line of it, revealing that his native gold spirals in thin lines around all of the longer bones in his body, including his ribs. He does not seem terribly bothered by being stared at, his face stoic as he carries a cannon across his shoulders, under the watchful eye of a man of distinct military decoration who watches him like a hawk while resting a hand on the pommel of an especially thin sword.
@@ReblazeGaming That was the idea. An ornata whose native gold spirals in thin lines around all of the long bones in their skeleton, with an innate ability that reinforces them in such a way as to allow them to keep moving without being crushed under the sheer weight of their own stature, being followed and watched by a warden who while short even to a normal person, is exceptionally skilled with a thin blade and so might be perfectly fit to dispatch a giant.
@@asimovstarling8806 It was really well written, how'd you learn to write like that? Also how tall do you reckon he is? Also why is he so tall? Is that just his ability and stature working together? Oooh, another Gold and Bone video :D Your videos are genuinly so nice to watch and Gold and Bone is one of my main inspirations for my own magic system. Thanks so much for making these videos 💙
I would love to see some elaboration on geography and geopolitical relationships! these videos are so interesting and inspiring to listen to and watch!
Hello, it’s the British. I heard this place has a diverse culture with many different objects of OBJECTS OF INTEREST I think we’ll hold onto those for you you’re welcome
I wanted to thank you for sharing this amazing concept with us. I used to use to draw a lot to visualize my imagination, but lately it's just been lacking to a point where I haven't been able to enjoy drawing something meaningful for almost 12 years. Guess life just does that to you sometimes. Anyway, the world you are creating here kind of gave me some fuel to pick up drawing again and I just wanted to thank you for that. Keep up the great work, I love this series.
Hi, Writfinch! I was wondering about an idea to add to your worldbuilding. A potential far off land, with people similiar to the Celtic Irish, who worship the Ornata. In ritualistic forms, they forge gold into crevices or scars in their body, in an attempt to gain the same power or just to show their praise of the Ornata. Thanks!
Hm, enchantments require vitae, will, and gold. Perhaps the enchantments within Ornata are so powerful due to the abundance of these? Vitae requires living things to be made, and here the enchantment is _inside_ of a living thing. Will is imbued by the enchanters, but perhaps the will of the Ornata can add to this? And gold is generally used sparingly, so perhaps having an entire patch of skeleton worth of gold make it stronger also Or I'm just wrong, which - let's be real - is more likely, but it's still interesting to think about 🤔
Is there such a thing as a non-human ornata? And if there were an animal ornata would that effect the animal's behavior/appearance? I can imagine a nobleman spending a fortune to acquire a horse with a golden hoof and the uncanny ability to walk on water. Maybe a village has been terrorized by a curiously intelligent murder of crows led by a crow with golden eyes and the power to put project its thoughts directly into the minds of others. Maybe in a far flung corner of the world, a cult worships a golden clawed lion that can make crops grow on a whim, so long as the lion is well fed and pampered. Or maybe those all just rumors spread by bored peasants who have had too much ale. After all, how can a beast be able to wield magic without an engraving and what kind of madman alchemist would give that kind of power just to see what would happen? Surely the pursuit of knowledge and power wouldn't go that far.
Ngl, as a ttrpg nerd i am getting thoughts of how the setting could be used for ttrpgs... i guess a system similar to Witcher ttrpg could work. Having ornata, alchemist, etc. as professions (in Witcher ttrpg you can have only one profession, but, since it's level-less and skill-based game, you can have a sorcerer who is good at melee - professions also have 3 simple profession-exclusive skill trees, each having 3 special abilities which can be improved) Also, the whole "each ornata has a specific magic type in them" reminds of Dorohedoro (each mage has one type of magic - mushroom magic for example) or Warhammer Fantasy a bit (human wizards can operate only one of the eight winds of magic without their already dangerous magic becoming even more dangerous - there is snagerous mixed wind magic and safer, but weak, hedge witch magic, both hated by human empire)
I love this idea, absolutely stunning, I would do fandom of an religious order that sees Ornata as demon bound beings, and aims for total Ornata destruction, but eh, won't do anything as I'm too busy with learning to draw and make animated maps, still very cool, can't wait to see more of this world building!
I really love this series and the thought behind the world building on top of the excellent designs. Is the project leaning toward a specific piece of media (as in, are you conceptualising this to be a book) or does it exist for the sole joy of the creative thought experiment?
Thanks so much! For now, just the joy of creating. I'd love to maybe do a TTRPG or book somewhere down the line, but of course I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to do a video game!
Just picked up this series a week ago, and already you’ve made a new video! Absolutely love your work, this worldbuilding is incredible, and I can’t wait to see it continue to grow in scope!
Despite the clear and easy to imagine potential for something like combat, i can't help but to imagine huge villages centered around the study of magic. a sort of monastic pseudo college, in place for the sake of quick and dirty solutions to some of the problems of nobility or, more likely, the military. very beautiful very powerful
Say it with me, ladies and gents. more More MORE MORE! MORE!!! God, this is the kind of stuff that made me get into my own writing and worldbuilding. And its breathing new purpose into my extensive redraft. Anyways, what was I saying? 🤔 Oh right. MOAR! MOAR!! 🥳
I wonder if there has ever been an alchemist or merchant who wanted to create a full skeleton of gold by buying or even "collecting" bones from living and dead Ornata. Since Ornata have been tied to many different religions, would there ever be a fanatic who thought something might happen if they brought together completely golden bones to make a whole person?
Man I love this world so much. You've got such amazing ideas and your storytelling is great and so immersive. Hearing you talk about it fills my head with so many questions and ideas for your world. And I love your art and designs too! If you don't mind answering I'm curious about how you learned all this and your approach to worldbuilding and coming up with ideas. Since I'd love to make my own project too. Do you have any formal art or creative writing education? If not how did you learn art and learn to tell stories so well? Also how did you come up with your idea for Gold and Bone? And finally what's your approach to research? Your world feels very grounded in reality so I imagine you did a lot of research on historical cultures, professions, clothing etc. Do you buy books or just search the internet or? As well as how and where do you find such great references for your designs? Like clothing and more. And how do you choose which to use. Do you have a time period you pull from? Sorry for all this questions haha.
Could you imagine that in reverse? A guy boasting about having 60% of his body pigmented only for it all to stem from a con sied spot on his knee. Oh the humiliation!
Ran across your channel just today! Awesome stuff. Would 100% run tabletop campaign in this setting. Question: Do any Ornata have the power of extreme longevity (eternal youth), and if so, where is the gold on the skeleton?
While there isn’t enough information about the world to fully develop an OC, I have a concept around an Ornata with the native gold around her skull, manifesting as golden eyes which can be used to magically captivate or intimidate others once awakened.
@@TheSmolBrit LETS GOOOOOOOO!!! 😆 🏅!!!! (Love your videos btw, the world is so cool and well thought out, I literally binge them when I wanna get in a writing mood)
I love this series so much! The magic system is so interesting and makes me just want to find out more about it! A question tho, how many percent of people would you say have gold in their skeletons? Love the video's!
Okay but hear me out: an Omata with a particularly long golden bone, such as their shin bone, would be particularly valuable; Since native gold is as strong as bone, and bone has been used for tools and weapons historically, it stands to reason that a golden shin could be used as a weapon, perhaps forged into a sword. Just some food for thought when designing those who hunt the Omata.

Hi there, I've actually answered this in my Q&A video! That's actually a common misconception. In theory, you still have to ask, even if you're not selling it for profit - profit isn't what defines copyright infringement. That being said, I'm happy for you to make a little something for fun with your friends, so long as you don't take credit for the idea (or sell it, of course)!
Wait, so for the Ornata all that is required for their innate ability to manifest is to introduce the specific chemicals to the gold, no symbol carving, right? How does one know what are the right chemicals to use, just continuous trial and error/death?
What happens when someone has native gold implanted at a younger age? Would the native gold grow with their body as it acts akin to bone, or would there be other effects?
Deve existir um alquimista que misturou suas próprias informações numa pipa dourada para que sua imagem e voz aparecessem em todo lugar que a pipa está
Do i remember correctly that this is a DnD thing? If so are there other species like Elves, Dwarves and Orcs? If so, do they also need to use gold or are they able to surpass the need, and how?

Keep up the great work, I love this series.
Hi, Writfinch! I was wondering about an idea to add to your worldbuilding. A potential far off land, with people similiar to the Celtic Irish, who worship the Ornata. In ritualistic forms, they forge gold into crevices or scars in their body, in an attempt to gain the same power or just to show their praise of the Ornata.
Thanks!
Are the golden remains of prolific ornata kept as holy relics? Like the skull of Mary Magdalene.
Depends on the culture, but almost certainly!
I love your magic system so much and I wish I had your great creativity
Hm, enchantments require vitae, will, and gold. Perhaps the enchantments within Ornata are so powerful due to the abundance of these? Vitae requires living things to be made, and here the enchantment is _inside_ of a living thing. Will is imbued by the enchanters, but perhaps the will of the Ornata can add to this? And gold is generally used sparingly, so perhaps having an entire patch of skeleton worth of gold make it stronger also
Or I'm just wrong, which - let's be real - is more likely, but it's still interesting to think about 🤔
I wanted to thank you since your videos have gave me inspiration to make my own story I even posted it online ❤
Always excited to hear more about this world
I really love this world building concept. The art as well. It's really interesting and I wish I could read a book about it.
We are so back
Is there such a thing as a non-human ornata?
Cool ideas!
Some very interesting ideas here!
Love this world build! It would be dope if we get a world map in the next couple of videos. Keep up the great work!
Ngl, as a ttrpg nerd i am getting thoughts of how the setting could be used for ttrpgs... i guess a system similar to Witcher ttrpg could work.
Having ornata, alchemist, etc. as professions (in Witcher ttrpg you can have only one profession, but, since it's level-less and skill-based game, you can have a sorcerer who is good at melee - professions also have 3 simple profession-exclusive skill trees, each having 3 special abilities which can be improved)
Also, the whole "each ornata has a specific magic type in them" reminds of Dorohedoro (each mage has one type of magic - mushroom magic for example) or Warhammer Fantasy a bit (human wizards can operate only one of the eight winds of magic without their already dangerous magic becoming even more dangerous - there is snagerous mixed wind magic and safer, but weak, hedge witch magic, both hated by human empire)
I love this idea, absolutely stunning, I would do fandom of an religious order that sees Ornata as demon bound beings, and aims for total Ornata destruction, but eh, won't do anything as I'm too busy with learning to draw and make animated maps, still very cool, can't wait to see more of this world building!
Part of me loves the idea of dinosaur ornata being discovered ways beneath the earth.
Your art is amazing
Very inspirational videos for my own world building project. Thanks!
I need a new necklace, and I’m all out of gold
Say it with me, ladies and gents.

God, this is the kind of stuff that made me get into my own writing and worldbuilding. And its breathing new purpose into my extensive redraft.
Anyways, what was I saying? 🤔 Oh right.
MOAR! MOAR!! 🥳
Its back!!💛🤍💛🤍💛
OMG YES I've been waiting for this!
Oh the humiliation!
do some cultures feed gold to the pregnant women? or even the babies or adults?
Ran across your channel just today! Awesome stuff. Would 100% run tabletop campaign in this setting.
Question: Do any Ornata have the power of extreme longevity (eternal youth), and if so, where is the gold on the skeleton?
While there isn’t enough information about the world to fully develop an OC, I have a concept around an Ornata with the native gold around her skull, manifesting as golden eyes which can be used to magically captivate or intimidate others once awakened.
Is it possible for an Ornata to look completely golden?
Some dude: “Hey, are you okay?”
Ornata: “I’m golden”
Some dude: 😒
Ornata: 😎
This may sound sarcastic, but I'm being dead serious when I say you are genuinely the first person to make that joke 🏅
@@TheSmolBrit LETS GOOOOOOOO!!! 😆 🏅!!!!
(Love your videos btw, the world is so cool and well thought out, I literally binge them when I wanna get in a writing mood)
pettition to name the strongest wizard King Midas
I love this series so much! The magic system is so interesting and makes me just want to find out more about it! A question tho, how many percent of people would you say have gold in their skeletons? Love the video's!
Okay but hear me out: an Omata with a particularly long golden bone, such as their shin bone, would be particularly valuable; Since native gold is as strong as bone, and bone has been used for tools and weapons historically, it stands to reason that a golden shin could be used as a weapon, perhaps forged into a sword. Just some food for thought when designing those who hunt the Omata.
I love your content. I only wish you uploaded more often. But you should do your videos at your own time
Thank you so much! Yes I wish I could upload more, and I will try to do so over the summer. Unfortunately, between a full time job and a chronic illness, it can get rather tricky!
@@TheSmolBrit Chronic illness? Damn, I hope you're doing okay!
14:00 just casually dropping that ghost exist in this world. Are they like the popular conception of ghost in the real world? Being considered a type of "Magical Imprint" makes me think they might be different.
They were discussed briefly in the previous video, if you'd like a few more deets!
@@TheSmolBrit I'll have to re-watch it. I don't know how I missed that.
new vid 🥳🥳🥳!!
Personally, I think it's likely that the Ornata's body *is* the runework in some way, hence why it still needs to be enchanted.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO LATE NIGHT LOOOOOORE
such an interesting world
HEWLL YEAHH I NEEDED SOMETHING TO WATCH
Heya! I absolutely love your content and Gold and Bone is no exception and i was wondering if i could make a ttrpg system based off of Gold and Bone (once its got more lore of course) for me and my homies to play, i know since im not publishing it or anything i dont have to ask but i just wanna make sure its okay with you
Hi there, I've actually answered this in my Q&A video! That's actually a common misconception. In theory, you still have to ask, even if you're not selling it for profit - profit isn't what defines copyright infringement. That being said, I'm happy for you to make a little something for fun with your friends, so long as you don't take credit for the idea (or sell it, of course)!
@TheSmolBrit oh, alrighty! Thank you btw! Can't wait to see what you do next with gold and bone!
Imagine having a golden jaw✨️
That would look sick for sure! I definitely have some Ornata lined up with fun golden parts, including a jawbone!
Wait, so for the Ornata all that is required for their innate ability to manifest is to introduce the specific chemicals to the gold, no symbol carving, right? How does one know what are the right chemicals to use, just continuous trial and error/death?
It's the same alchemical mixture that finishes off regular enchantment, just diluted and adapted for bodies through trial and error!
@@TheSmolBrit ooh ok so for every enchantment (project and Ornata) it's the same mixture?
Big OL JUICY video !!!!!!!!!
GOLD AND BONE, GOLD AND BONE, GOLD AND BONE!
3:26 This reminds me bone cancer nasty stuff but love the aesthetic of it.
...
Bonky, coming out of the gate as per! Your support is always valued, my friend x
Aw I'm golding my bone so hard rn
Yes
Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee YES
WOOP MEDIUM TWINK
Hope you're doing well
loove it woo
Damn
Magic 'murica
How would Ornata & Alchemists manipulate gold embroidery on their clothing during combat?
I'm Brazilian and I love your art, my English is poor. Could you explain to me the story behind your ocs?
very gud 👍
What happens when someone has native gold implanted at a younger age? Would the native gold grow with their body as it acts akin to bone, or would there be other effects?
Ah I missed it I shouldn’t have slept
💛💛💛💛💛
❤❤❤
What would happen if an Ornata broke a bone that was unaffected by their native gold? Would it heal golden, like deep scars do?
normal areas heal normally. only gold areas heal golden.
WOHOOO!!
Deve existir um alquimista que misturou suas próprias informações numa pipa dourada para que sua imagem e voz aparecessem em todo lugar que a pipa está
is there anyway we could use the gold and bone magic system in a ttrpg like dnd or similar rpg's?
Gold as a magic system?
The only true elemental system lol
Do i remember correctly that this is a DnD thing? If so are there other species like Elves, Dwarves and Orcs? If so, do they also need to use gold or are they able to surpass the need, and how?
All religions lay claim to the ornanata?
It would be interesting if some explicitly don't and it being telling why the don't.
"All" was more hyperbolic. Most major widespread religions have, however, projected their own interpretation based on their own beliefs.
