- Discovering a hidden gem! Bishopstone, a very attractive English village at the north edge of the Downs overlooking the Vale of White Horse.
This video was recorded on 21th May 2022
Lying between the Ridgeway and the River Thames, the Vale of White Horse - whose name comes from the oldest chalk figure in Britain dating back to around 1000 BC - stretches from the edge of Oxford to the edge of the Cotswolds.
The church St Mary the Virgin in Bishopstone is a grade 1 church and is mainly Perpendicular. It possesses on the north side an exquisite late Norman doorway. The church was restored after a fire
in 1891. The interior is bright with just one stained glass window of 1994,
depicting the church and its setting.
Bishopstone falls within the unitary authority of Swindon. It is in the SN6 postcode district, close to the borders of the cotswolds

There are a number of people posting similar videos. What makes Kevin unique is he is obviously a true countryman and portrays exactly what others want to see ie, the Flora and Fauna of the villages. I am not alone in wanting to see exactly the same when visiting new places, and Kevin is a Master at it. No chat, No gimmicks, just a genuine portrayal of the Countryside we all love. well, that was too beautiful! i thought, these people live in a garden, and then i looked up bishopstone, and learned they actually live in a national park! thanks, kevin. :)
Pretty sure Bishopstone isn't in a National Park. It's close to a lot of National Trust property but that's a different thing.

@@hellie_el It definitely isn't. None of Wiltshire is in the South Downs National Park (that's Hampshire and Sussex I think). I live in Wiltshire and drive through Bishopstone occasionally.

Wow...I'm rapt to come across this video, as one of my paternal grandmother;s family lived in this village from as far back as the mid 1500's, up until the mid 1840's, and possibly even more recently than that.
Iv'e seen a couple of other shorter videos on here, but this is absolutely stunning - I imagine the birdsong that can be heard in the background would have been pretty much the same in the 1500's.

Such a beautiful church, abandoned... unfortunately it reminds me of the orthodox cerkiews I've seen years ago in Soviet Union; also storage places. I never thought I should see it in the West in XXI century. So sad. But the film is exquisite 🤗
