    After doing baseline pulls on the dyno we return with a few bolt on parts. K&N drop in filter, a pair of decat pipes and an underdrive pulley. The results were not expected...

    What also makes a huge difference is the 74 throttle body and plenum from a 996, I did these mods to my 2000 boxster s, the throttle body alone added 10 hp and much more throttle response, I would recommend not clearing the ecu map before you dyno the car, because car adapts to the mods, you should do a dyno test without clearing the ecu map

    My 2.5 is making 285hp our best Dyno run. Port and polished heads larger bore. Larger fuel regulator. Old throttle body bored to 72mm and larger butterfly. Titanium intake 3” to K&an dry filter. Fabspeed catless headers to 100 cell cats, tapering up to 2.5” piping no muffler to Fabspeed x pipe tips. Custom Spec Boxster tune from HD Tuning. Underdrive pulley showed us 7hp after install and retune. Running 93 octane. Stage 3 clutch as well and CIA shifter and cables. She is a mean one.

      Sounds awesome 👍🏼lots of time and money spent there, bet it goes well with that power 💪🏻

      That sounds like a lot of work and money. Would it not have been cheaper and easier to find a 3.4 to drop in? I know it's not a straight drop in, but it's apparently very doable.

      so you're making ~110hp/l on a NA engine right

    I suspect It just isn’t tuned right for the new setup... I’m sure you could get at least the same power with a tune.

    • @briansturgill5905
      @briansturgill5905 Год назад +1

      Custom tune will net you 20 to 30hp. HDTuning does lots of the Spec Boxsters in California.

      This is what were discussing after the run. Optimising the fuel and ignition after the changes. The ecu is an old one and can't make much in the way of changes. Just waiting a few more bits before we go back and test this theory 👍🏼

    Taking the catalytics off didn't help. Why do people always think it will make more power without them? On the Ford Fiesta ST's you lose power removing them too, dyno proven.

    • @Adeyspec
      @Adeyspec  Год назад +3

      Because the basics of an air pump would mean having less restrictions on the intake and exhaust will allow for free flowing air. You are assuming it's the cats (or lack of) causing a decrease. That's not been ascertained yet. As a side note this is the first of 6 of my own personal cars that have shown a loss not a gain, back to back on a dyno after having cats removed.

    Too many variables not addressed. How long ago did you reset the ecu before doing this dyno test? What are the fuel trims for long and short. Are the coilpacks and spark plugs new? I know on my 2.7 that running Okada project coil packs was like night and day difference. I also run NGK Ruthenium plugs.

    @scottoconnor3484 9 месяцев назад +3

    986 ECU is too slow to handle the additional air from a more free flowing air intake. That, and the engine needs some backpressure past the headers to make torque. If you remove all the exhaust restrictions, you’ll lose torque.

  • @dennisdaniels5991
    @dennisdaniels5991 Год назад +1

    Change back to the original pulley and you should have a small gain in hp over the first dyno due to the new exhaust.

  • @garyg9815

    on the boxsters, removing a cat does not increase HP, it actually decreases by a little. (not 14 though). the reason why is because modern cats are actually not that restrictive and actually help with airflow because it removes turbulence. an underdrive pulley should increase by 2HP at most. the KN filter should make no difference. as a fellow boxster owner, i am not surprised that you lost power, i am surprised that you lost 14 though.
    could it be the fuel quality at the different pump? could it be that particular decat pipes being more restrictive than they look?
    something that has been proven to increase power on this car is a new catback exhaust. the reason why is because there is a sharp bend from the 2nd cat to the muffler. aftermarket exhausts straightens it and tends to net you 2-5 more HP.
    as for intake mods, they tend to be hit or miss. i have seen some people get a few more HP, and others loose some HP. intake mods do make the car sound cool though.
    sadly enough, the engines inside the 986 isnt very tunable.

      This car only had the "2nd" cats. Only 2 from factory. Interesting info, I will be trying it again soon with a different batch of fuel

    With no cats you really need to look at your AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) from idle to 6,500 rpm. It very well might be too rich.
