This is a stunning tank! I will be curious to see how the plants do long term with the blackwater- it can be a real struggle. I like the mockup you have going on underneath as well.
also- subscribed! Can't wait to see what you do this year!
Hi Rachel, thanks for the comment! The hygrophila is doing very well, it's such a hardy, low light plant. The Nymphoides taiwan is doing good too, but is slower. Buce isn't doing spectacular, in my experience though it's said to be low light it does best under good lighting. Which leads me to the little tank! My DIY pipe lamp video uses it as the model, and it should be planted with buce for this weekend's video :D
the thign with buce is that what is low light in the wild, is not the same in our aquariums. Its often emergent growth so that low, filtered light is the equivalent of high light in our aquariums (for instance, it grows on the side of rock faces near waterfalls with a canopy- filtered "low" light). You could try moving it up, or making it emergent for better success.
Very good point! I'll have to try that some day. Thanks so much for subscribing
i look forward to the little tank! keep up the good work
3 year old video, but great job, I found it very entertaining and very informative, the stuff about leaching tanins is worth knowing, thank you.
Beautiful! 🎅✌
Thank you~!
Good fish choice! I have a similar setup but with green neon tetra’s! Subbed btw
You are doing a fantastic job on your videos. I like the way you're taking inexpensive tanks and turning them into tiny works of art. I have a group of 5 Chiles in w/yellow Neocaridinas. They've quickly become my favorite fish.
Aw thank you so much. And chilis are such fun little guys
Do you still have this tank? I love it. So natural and peaceful
I do! Unfortunately the fact that it's not glass makes it a pain to clean, I want to move it to a rimless or get a much larger blackwater tank before the end of the year
I love chilli rasboras! I keep them as well. I’ve been looking forward an update on this tank. Looks awesome!
I haven't had them for long but they're pretty much my new favorite fish haha. Thank you!
Makeila's Aqua yeah they’re great because you keep them with shrimp.
H.C. Aqua do they jump?
It came with a lid??? What brand is this tank?
Dear Makeila:
That is one, super-sweet, black-water, nano set-up! Those, Chili rasbora (Boraras brigittae) look right happy in their, new home.
Thank you for another, informative and entertaining video.
All my best,
Sincerely,
E. J. Brinegar
Thank you for the kind words!
Now you made me want to set up a black water tank :)
Oh man you should go for it! Tannin aquatics has some great products that'll help a ton
Makeila's Aqua i'll be checking on them.. :) thank you for the suggestion btw what kind of tree are those twigs from?
I have no idea sorry, they came from a plant outside. Anything that is dead and dried, and is hardwood with no pesticides should work pretty well :)
Makeila's Aqua i see.. Thank you so much for the info happy fishkeeping :)
I absolutely love it.😊
Thanks!
That is a Hailea QUBIQ 30 LED tank?
amazing tank. God work
They like to shoaling with other fish like ember and rummy
I have six of them just bought it.
Are these as hardy as the espei rasboras
I subcribe n like you👋👍. because you are so beautiful and funny. I'm from Indonesia🇮🇩 falling in love with you😍
I've just become your one thaousnt subscriber🤗
Loving the tank. I was drawn here by the '''black water'' title as I'm a massive Apistogramma fan!
Congratulations on tank, looks great. Not sure stocking will allow now you have the Rasboras, but have you considered a pair of Taenacara candidi for the tank? Conditions are perfect for them though you'd have to be super vigilant watching out for aggression towards each other plus if they spawned it wld be caos! Would look great though.
Great channel and hello from England☺
Dang, thanks so much! I appreciate the support, blackwater is amazing. I should really get an update out on this tank haha. Schooling fish are like... my absolute favorites. I'd probably add more chilis sooner than other fish (also this tank is really small) but thanks for telling me about them, I've learned something new!
@@MakeilasAqua hii can chili rasbora live with betta :) thx
This tank is turning out to be really cool! Looks like the light is working to some degree.
It's surprising me, to be honest! I've seen some European scapers use this LED for wabi kusa, it's just so sleek looking and decently cheap.
Cute little fellows! You did a great job giving them the right conditions, nice for the eye too. I just started up with aquariums after a long brake. I got inspired by seeing those nice nano tanks. Got two now, a 7.5 gallon, and I just bought a 13 gallon. The local pet store have those Chili Rasboras , but I have to run in the 13 gallon first. Hope they still have some when the tank is ready.
They are great fish! Online may be an option if they run out
This tank looks amazing and the chili rasboras were an excellent choice.
Thank you very much!
Hi, :) Pretty, I'd like to get some. But I'm an open tank-top enthusiast. I may make an exception, maybe. In short, no tank lids, but I still think I'll get some if the price is right.
"My what big eyes you have!"
"All the better to see you with."
Love it! Perfect setup for them! Just feed them up a lil bit Marry christmas :)
Thanks very much! I get a little nervous at how fat their chests get each time I feed, truth be told
Makeila's Aqua dont worry about that, as long u dont over feed them it should be alright :)
Nice video but you should remove that music
That's a bit disappointing that O'leary sent you a mixed bag of merah with brigittae when you paid for brigittae. It is nice that she commented on this video (but I noticed nothing about the species she sent.) Regardless, that looks like a fun tank. Nice video!
Sadly I think it was just an issue with the supplier, they had no color when they arrived so it's probably an easy mistake. I don't mind too much and the little guy doesn't seem to realize he's different haha. Thank you!
Are they easy to care for?
Not picky at all about food as long as it is tiny enough to fit in their mouths, but they don't like large water parameter swings at all. Other than that yes they are quite easy
This is the best video I have seen yet on these little fishies. Well done! This has made up my mind on deciding to add these to my nano tank. Thank you!
That looks so good. Do you always keep the lid on? I am setting up a 12 g cube for shrimp and the chilli rasporas has any of your attempted to jump? I have some Danio in my 30g community tank and they don't jump but infamous for doing so.
Sorry for the late reply, I hope your cube is going well. None have attempted to jump, but I do keep the lid on to control evaporation, and because I'm still a little paranoid :D
Awesome little fish & great video Mak!! Love their red color
Thanks as always! It took them the full 2 weeks to reach that point, and I'm still optimistic. Working on softening the water and getting live foods ^u^
Makeila's Aqua micro worms are a pretty easy live food that is small! Can’t wait to see your future videos!
Thanks for the suggestion! Will look into into it, along with baby brine
Those look more like merah rasboras. I got the same fish labeled as chili’s but they never got super red.
They are really red now. There is one B. merah that got in, he's the odd one out haha. But yes, I'd be extremely careful where I ordered from because when they are not colored up it can be really hard to tell.
is a 3g tank enough room for these fish? I'm asking because I also have a small tank and I heard these need to be in groups of 8+?
In my personal opinion, yes. They are only .75 inches and their body length to tank length ratio is comparable to bigger fish in their recommended bigger tank sizes. They also have tiny bioloads since they're so small and don't eat much. Rachel O'Leary had a 3 gallon tank with chili rasboras a while back. It's definitely a serious topic though, in the future I'd like to upgrade to a larger blackwater and get these guys some more space :)
I got black line rasboras and they are really beautiful especially when i turn off the lights.
That's awesome! Mine are gems when direct sunlight hits the tank
That table doesn't look happy about that weight on it. It looks like its beginning to sag in the middle.
I've definitely thought about this, currently it's braced with a hardcover book. Current plan is to leave it be for now and take this scape to college next year, but move it to a rimless glass tank, which this shelf likely can't hold.
Very nice biotope! I love the set up specially the woods.. I'm into biotope too. New subbed here :) Great job
and i love the inhabitants. Great choice
Thanks so much! I appreciate it
Wow great tank
Thank you!
I have a few different species of Rasbora including the Chili in my tank and I've noticed since I've put a plain blue background in the tank recently their colour is now very red and all the fish in general have coloured up better. I think they feel safer. Your tank looks good by the way.
Very interesting! This has a black background, though not a particularly good one. Thank you!
@@MakeilasAqua Sorry I didn't realise you had a black background! I have my Chili's in a planted tank with Dwarf Rasboras, Emerald Dwarf Rasboras and Ender Guppies. They do make good community fish with other small peaceful fish as well and as you know they are not shy for such a tiny fish :)
do u plan to put a betta in the tank?
Nah, I think a betta would overload the bio capacity of the tank at this point, and I prefer the species-only look :)
I only asked cuz i think a red full moon or a white would be a cool contrast to the dark atmosphere ... ither way ur tank is beautiful makes me want a black water tank!
I see! Yeah, bettas in blackwater tanks would look great, but I'm trying to tell myself I don't need any more tanks xD
I have them in my rimless tank without lid and they don't jump, just my experience.
I might just be a little paranoid xD Thanks for telling me that!
Nice black water tank. 👍
I really like your channel and your tanks. I'm going to set up some nanos soon and your setup is good inspiration!
Thank you, that's awesome to hear!
I love tiny tiny fish like these!
They're super cute
Cool addition to that style tank. I've been intrigued by dark water tanks for a while now. I may have to try a small one like yours. I think a little stronger light to pop the green in the leaves and make some light shafts would look great. Nice work!
Thanks for the feedback! You should go for it, they're more fun than I could have expected :D
Darn it. You were supposed to talk me out of it. LOL. Oh well, I guess a thrid tank will be ok.
Oh, I mean, don't do it, you'll find yourself wasting time by staring at it too much :(
I brought them for only $6 in a big bag with 50 mosquito rasboro inside
Whaaat, from where? That sounds awesome!
Makeila's Aqua from singapore and neon tetra and rummy nose 50 fish’s for only $5 bucks
update please
How much was the shipping?.
$28 :)
What brand tank is that
This is a tetra 3 gallon cube, a this point in my hobby I'd prefer a glass tank now :P
Makeila's Aqua I didn’t even realize it was plastic lol
Yep! I'd like to move this scape to a rimless glass tank within the coming year
what kind of branches are these
I honestly don't know, they were collected from outside :'D
that's some good presentation right there :)
Thanks! :)
Are that Rasbora- mehra.
They are chili rasboras, Boraras brigittae. One extra Boraras merah came in accidentally, he's still going strong!
@@MakeilasAqua really cool fish.I have Rsbora - mehra
Awesome tank!
Aaah thanks!
Really great work on your channel. Enjoyable and congrats!
Beautiful tank! Love chili rasboras (and nano fish in general).
Same, thank you!
lovely! :)
Plants doesnt absorb/use ammonia
Hello! They actually do, which is how many people are able to skip a lot of the cycle by planting heavily in the beginning.
